This Chinese restaurant is famous for inventing Nagasaki champon as well as sara udon, two distinct dishes involving noodles with various toppings. The restaurant’s signature creamy and flavorful soup broth is made by boiling two to three whole chickens as well as pork and chicken bones for three to four hours. The restaurant’s building is five stories tall. The fifth floor is the actual restaurant, offering customers a superb view. The second floor is a museum which presents the history of champon. The first floor is a shop.

We visit the Museum of this famous dish called Champon, the entrance is free although the information is not available in English, very well is worth visiting, me as an expat living in Nagasaki for...

This is a traditional Japanese restaurant opened since 1866. Chawanmushi (a savory egg custard) which is a signature dish from the time of the restaurant founding, is a filling dish made in large dishes full of many ingredients. It goes well with slightly sweet steamed sushi and special Battera pressed sushi. It is a large-scale restaurant with many seats, and on the second floor there is on-the-floor seating as well as tables and chairs. It is a four-minute walk from the “Kankodori” tram stop.

A restaurant with long history. All details are nicely presented. The steamed egg is indeed a big SURPRISE. Tempura and sushi are also of very high quality. The whole building is a gem of antique...

A venerable Sasebo burger shop beloved by its customers since it was established in 1970. Said to be the originator of the bacon and egg burger, Big Man uses homemade bacon and the shop’s many menu selections are made with breads crafted by the founder, a former bread artisan. No matter what you choose, it’s sure to be good—making choosing a difficult task. The shop can also accommodate wheelchairs and baby strollers. A 10-minute walk from JR Sasebo Station.

Was late for dinner and saw this place still open and fantastic looking thick burgers. Taste good just it’s too big for my bite. Need two bite for the whole thickness. It’s a small joint with few...

"This Western restaurant along National Route 35 is located in Yoshifuku-cho, Sasebo City. The owner chef is one of the creators of Sasebo's famous ""Lemon Steak"" that is thinly sliced beef covered with an original sauce with a soy sauce based and cooked on a hotplate. Besides their signature ""Lemon Steak set,"" they offer Western dishes such as steak, hamburger steaks, fried shrimp and one of Sasebo's specialties, ""Kaigunsan no Beef Stew."""

This is a restaurant well-known as the original restaurant of the Shimabara delicacy “Guzoni”, standing right across from Shimabara Castle. Guzoni is prepared by boiling vegetables such as shirona (a leafy vegetable), lotus root etc., with chicken meat, conger eel, and omelette in a soup stock. The wonderful flavor of the bonito stock soup is so popular, people queue to eat here. In addition to Guzoni dishes, there are various set menus to choose from. It is a nine-minute walk from Shimabara Station.

This traditional Japanese restaurant in Nagasaki holds history dating back to the Kanei Era of the Edo Period (Early-mid 1600s) and has been designated a Historic Site of the prefecture. Famous as a meeting place for rebels and writers during the Edo and Meiji periods, the banquet hall on the second floor still bears a slash from the sword of Sakamoto Ryoma. Here you can enjoy the grace of the restaurant and traditional Japanese-Chinese food while looking over an approximately 2,650 square meters Japanese garden. The restaurant is a seven-minute walk from the Sofukuji-Temple stop on the Nagasaki Streetcar.

一部は火災に会い消失していますが、幕末からの建築が残っており、その場所で食事をする事が出来ます。料金はそれなりに高いのですが、場所代込みと思えば納得のできる料亭です。Some of them have disappeared due to a fire, but the architecture from the end of the Edo period remains, and you...

The cafe is particularly known for its parfaits like the ""Nagasaki Yume Tower,"" a giant, 1.2-meter-tall parfait, and customers can order big, small, and of course regular sized parfaits with a variety of toppings."

"A Japanese curry restaurant located in Yorozuya-machi, Nagasaki City. The restaurant's signature ""Yugetsu Curry"" has been a customer favorite for more than half a century. The mild flavor comes from a blend of spices which hasn't been changed since the restaurant's doors first opened, and vegetables stewed until they dissolve into the orange colored curry."

This was my first time to ate pink curry. It was strange for me but after my first bit it’s very delicious and out of my except.

Nagasaki Areas

around-area-map

This hidden corner of the country is rural Japan at its best, where underground activity is to thank for active volcanoes and bubbling natural hot springs along the Shimabara Peninsula as well as the crystal clear waters of the Goto Islands off the west coast. Less well known than Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park, Nagasaki commemorates its own past at the Nagasaki Peace Park, which sits alongside the charming Meganebashi stone bridge and a mix of religious buildings with beautiful architecture, such as the Zen Buddhist Sofukuji Temple, the Confucian Shrine, and the Oura Christian Church.
