A café operated out of a remodeled old private home with lattice doors, a tiled roof, and white walls located in Hommachi, Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture. Inside, the café retains much of the original old interior style, giving it a soothing and quiet atmosphere. A tatami mat seating area is situated just past the earthen floor of the entrance; in the inner part of a café, customers can view the elegant inner garden. The restaurant’s seasonal fruit parfaits are particularly popular—strawberry in spring, peach in summer, Japanese chestnut in fall, and more. The spicy, flavorful Miyake curry and homemade cakes are also well-reviewed.

It was late afternoon on a cold December day and we longed for a warm place to stop for some hot tea and cake. But most cafes had already closed or featured big plastic ice cream cones outside. So we...

Yurin-an is a cafe in a traditional Japanese house built 100 years ago. Features like our single-board table help preserve the old-fashioned atmosphere, and their highly popular “power sweets” are rumored to bring happiness. Since there’s the chance of a queue from opening on weekends and public holidays, arriving early is a good idea. Their “Shiawase Pudding” will make you smile, and their miracle inducing “Miracle Panna Cotta” is also popular. Yurin-an is approximately 15 minutes on foot from JR Kurashiki Station.

Puding and panna cotta was cute and tasted nice. However, it is only being sold with a set drink. The zenzai was seasonal limited so I gave it a try. And OMG second bite made me headache.

In addition to menu standards such as Kilimanjaro, customers can also enjoy daily and seasonal coffees. The shop also sells beans for home use.

This venerable Japanese confectionery has over 180 years of history. Their famous Ote Manju buns were particularly loved by Ikeda, Lord of Bizen Domain, and stories say he made sure they were served at every tea ceremony he attended. These buns are made with carefully mixed sweet bean paste wrapped in amazake sweet sake flavored dough for a highly aromatic manju bun. They also serve crisp Monami, monaka wafers filled with moist coarse anko, and Tsubuzoroi bean sweets, made with high grade sugared adzuki beans.

Okonomi Teppanyaki Tama-chan is located along National Route 250 in Sogo, Hinase Town in the city of Bizen and specializes in Okonomiyaki, which is a dish similar to both an omelet and a crepe. Its best-known menu items are Kaki-Oko (oyster okonomiyaki) and Kaki-Negi (okonomiyaki with oysters and green onions), made with the oysters that the Hinase Town is famous for. The menu also features dishes made with seafood such as conger eels and prawns as well as teppanyaki-grilled Okayama Black Wagyu Beef.

"This restaurant is on Oranda-dori street in Okayama City. The brick entrance and simple interior give off an old-fashioned diner atmosphere. They offer a variety of simple, familiar dishes like Okayama's iconic ""Good Cheap Eats"" Demikatsu Don rice bowl with pork cutlet in demi-glace sauce, as well as Yakimeshi fried rice, rice omelets and more. The shop has been loved by locals through three generations, from its founding in 1948, and their most popular dish, Chuka Soba ramen hasn't changed since it premiered. The ramen's original Yamato broth, made with kombu kelp and katsuo shaving stock, is perfect with rice and many people order it with a Mini-Demikatsudon on the side."

Went here for lunch, we had Chikane sovs(rammen) and yakimeshi(fries rice), both dishes were great, and at a Low lost. There are alot locals. GREAT and very friendly service.

Okayama Areas

around-area-map

Overshadowed by Hiroshima to the west and the Kansai region to the east, Okayama is an easy spot to miss but a nature-rich gem where the Seto Inland Sea laps at its toes and peach and grape farms complete its interior. One of Japan’s Three Great Gardens, Koraku-en in Okayama city is well worth a visit before progressing to Kurashiki, where preserved wooden Edo buildings line the picturesque canal.
