    This souvenir shop is on the bank of the Shimanto River in Shimanto City, Kochi Prefecture and contains a restaurant on the second floor. It opened in 1967. The first floor sells processed goods such as natural eel, shrimp, sweetfish, and seaweed from the Shimanto River, which is said to be Japan’s last remaining limpid river. The chef, who is also a river fisherman, offers dishes such as grilled eel and rice, natural salt-grilled sweetfish, fried river shrimp, and other local cuisine. It is a popular store famous for its “fisherman caught, fisherman cooked” catch copy and on holidays, there is a queue as soon as the store opens. “Straw grilled tataki,” the signature menu using rod and line fished bonito, is a delicious dish of freshly grilled thick bonito steaks seasoned with salt or dipped in sauce. Visitors can enjoy the freshness, the volume and the fragrant scent of the dish that can only be experienced at this specialty store located in the home of bonito fishing. There is no extra charge for sashimi etc., but there is an additional charge for cooking dried fish. Customers can also order miso soup and rice to accompany their fish or seafood.
