This long-standing Western restaurant opened in 1956, in Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture. It is one of the restaurants said to have devised the Miyazaki’s specialty Chicken Nanban. The restaurant prides itself on its Chicken Nanban, made with tender chicken breast meat, cooked and immediately covered in sweet vinegar and a homemade tartar sauce. Locals and tourists alike line up to buy it. The old-fashioned interior, styled like a Western town restaurant, is also quite appealing.

Visited this restaurant to enjoy the renowned nanban chicken in Miyazaki with my friend. Staff is helpful and service is quick. The location is a bit hard to find but persevere and you’ll be rewarded...

The buffet style restaurant's theme is ""Miyazaki terroir"" and serves dishes using Miyazaki's traditional vegetables and fruits, seafood and Miyazaki beef."

Breakfast at The Pine Terrace was average. The rolls were manufactured, the food was average quality, although there was a huge variety of average quality. It was a mob scene and one guy took over...

Miyazaki Pref. Miyazakishi Matsuyama 1-1-1 Miyazaki Kanko Hotel West Bldg. 2F
A restaurant specializing in Miyazaki beef located in the West Building of the Miyazaki Kanko Hotel. The teppanyaki performance, in which a dedicated chef cooks select Miyazaki beef right in front of you, is particularly popular. The restaurant is divided into teppanyaki seating which is focused on steak meals, and yakiniku (grill your own barbecue) seating; the restaurant also has seating and private rooms from which you can enjoy a superb view of the Oyodo River. From the reasonably priced lunch steak to extravagant, quantity-limited dinner courses made with the highest class pieces of Miyazaki beef, you can enjoy a meal matched to your budget. A 19-minute walk from JR Miyazaki Station.

We had to try beef given we were in Miyazaki. Read lots of reviews of Miyachiku. We had asked the hotel to help us book but the original one we wanted was fully booked (for a month!). So he offered...

This restaurant, located in the Takachiho-Gamadase Market, serves cuisine using Takachiho beef. Guests can choose from teppanyaki, table steak and yakiniku courses. Teppanyaki means that the chef cooks the meat right in front of you. The restaurant is directly run by JA (Japan Agricultural Cooperatives) so delicious Takachiho beef can be enjoyed at reasonable prices.

The restaurant is of decent size so finding a table was not difficult for our group of six pax. The waiting staff while not as warm as I’ve encountered on this trip to Kyushu, they are patient with...

This chicken cuisine restaurant is located in Nobeoka City. The simple taste of chicken nanban, made with Miyazaki grown chicken breast and an original sweet and sour sauce, is popular. Rice cooked freshly in a pressure cooker pot, dried anchovy from Kitaura and miso soup made with Mukabaki dried shiitake mushrooms are also popular. Enjoy chicken cuisine using carefully selected local and prefectural produce.

Nao Chan has moved to new quarters. The new location is literally a stone’s throw up the same alley, closer to the Route Inn. The chicken is probably the best I have ever had. I was here for two...

"An udon shop located in Tachibana-dori-nishi 3-Chome, Miyazaki City. They offer their udon, consisting of 100% wheat flour noodles made by hand each morning, and their winning broth that combines Iyo small dried sardine and Rishiri kelp. You can enjoy a variety of toppings, such as with the ""special udon/soba"" topped with shrimp tempura, tempura (fried sweet potato), and egg. The meticulous tenkasu tempura scraps and spicy green pepper are also popular."

Very gracious hosts, English menu provided on request. Happy and delightful service. Budget friendly prices. Plenty of seating.

This is a long-established eel restaurant established in 1894 in Saito City, Miyazaki Prefecture. Guests can enjoy the taste of “kaba-yaki” (eel, dipped and broiled in soy sauce) using carefully selected local eel. The well-grilled odorless taste is characteristic of domestic eel. It is a popular restaurant with queues forming at opening and offers a waiting room as well. Many people visit from afar.

Miyazaki is actually famous for Chicken Nanban so when a local told me that Irifune offers very delicious eel dishes, I was a bit skeptical. However, I wasnt disappointed after my visit. The eel...

This is a restaurant located in Takachiho Town, Nishiusuki County, Miyazaki Prefecture serving local traditional cuisine. The restaurant is famous for serving the “Original Nagashi Somen” (flowing noodles) in bamboo at the counter seats. There is also equipment installed on the tables that rotate to experience “Nagashi Somen”. “Sashimi konjac”, and “Yamame” (landlocked salmon) baked onsite, are also popular. Many sightseers to Takachiho Gorge visit the restaurant.

This product shop is directly managed by the fishing co-op in “Meitsu Port” in Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture. Visitors can purchase seasonal fresh seafood caught in the port famous for pole-fished bonito as well as processed products. There is also a restaurant offering seafood cuisine such as pan seared Nichinan pole-fished bonito on a box of rice which visitors can taste as they sear the fresh bonito fish.

    食事処の海鮮丼が人気なようでかなりな待ち客がいたので食べるのは断念しました。 併設の店舗で販売されているのは魚介類と加工品で農産物は皆無でした。 小規模な道の駅といった感じです。

"This local cuisine restaurant is situated on the road leading to Obijo-mae Street. Situated on the site of the government office for Obi Domain in the Edo period, the history-leaden building is also famously the only extant example of nagakura architecture in the former castle town of Obi. The restaurant is renowned for its ""Obiten,"" a traditional Obi regional variety of tempura consisting of minced fish mixed with tofu and miso before being deep-fried. Tender in texture and bearing a mild, slightly sweet flavor, once you take a bite, you'll never forget how delicious it is, and many tourists make their way to the restaurant time and again to enjoy the delicacy. The restaurant's ""Obiten Teishoku"" set meal is also popular, and comes with the signature Obiten as well as crab miso soup, an atsuyaki omelet, and other regional Obi dishes."

In addition to regular ramen, there is also ""Mendera"" with extra noodles, ""Nikudera"" with extra roasted pork fillet and ""W dera"" with large servings of both."

This unagi (eel) shop is along Prefectural Road 372 in Shioji, Miyazaki city. They carefully select their unagi raised in eel farms in Miyazaki and Kagoshima, then charcoal-grill them, not steam them, to provide the Kansai-style local grilling. The unagi has a fluffy inside and a crispy outside, and is cleanly finished with tare sauce. You can enjoy unajyu, and hitsumabushi (chopped eel on rice), as well as course meals and unagi shabu shabu (reservation required.)

This Western restaurant is located on the Chuo-dori street in Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture. Its owner was a chef at “Ogura,” a restaurant which is said to have invented Chicken Nanban, since the beginning. The Special Chicken Nanban on the restaurant’s menu is made with a chicken, which is prepared that very day, from which only the breast meat is used for the exquisite meal. Sweet vinegar and a homemade tartar sauce are poured onto the soft breast meat, creating a flavor that is quite addictive. The restaurant has a retro interior with primarily counter seats.

"This restaurant is situated at the end of a narrow village road. The talented owner has studied extensively in both Tokyo and Nagoya and serves Japanese cuisine with a focus on rare Takachiho beef and vegetable cuisine. Evening meals are reservation-only. Just what vegetables the restaurant stocks varies day-to-day, so those interested in dining on something in particular might want to contact the establishment in advance. As the restaurant's vegetable cuisine is primarily made with local vegetables, it has been certified by the prefecture as ""Choice Local Production for Local Consumption Cuisine."" Terraced rice field sprawl beyond the restaurant's windows, and customers can enjoy a sweeping view of charming pastoral scenery."

We decided to drive here as it is a bit out of the way. Some of the narrow roads made us doubt if we were actually going the right way but Google Maps was very accurate. The vegetarian lunch plate...

"This soba noodle restaurant stands on the Kirishima Bird Line. In a space overflowing with warm wood furnishings, the restaurant serves choice, handmade soba noodles. The restaurant makes its noodles by naturally drying buckwheat, grinding it into flour each morning using a stone mill, and mixing it with spring water before rolling out the noodles by hand. The restaurant offers two varieties of noodles, ""nama soba"" (made with a 90% buckwheat flour and 10% wheat flour blend); and unique, southern Kyushu-style ""inaka soba"" (made using only buckwheat flour). Customers can enjoy these noodles along with a tasty soup flavored with dried bonito, dried kelp seaweed, dried young sardine, and dried shitake mushrooms. The restaurant also sells a variety of homemade foods such as buckwheat flour and soba noodles for home use, and breads made with natural yeast."

The homemade soba is delicious, and the atmosphere of the entire place is just lovely. They also sell their signature sauces, homemade bread, and other local produce.

This eel restaurant is located a five-minute drive from Nichinan Station. Here customers can savor choice dishes maid exclusively with eel from Miyazaki Prefecture and Kagoshima Prefecture in a genuine Japanese atmosphere. The restaurant's herb eel, which has been featured in the media, is rich in high quality fat yet does not have the distinctive smell of river fish. Its excellent and mild flavor is so delicious, even people who don't like eel will find it tasty. The restaurant's tuna rice bowls, made with tuna from the local Aburatsu Port; and its broiled bonito rice boxes, a local Nichinan favorite; are also well-reviewed.

An unmissable highlight of Kyushu, Miyazaki prefecture satisfies nature lovers with its dramatic gorges cut out of rugged cliffs, leading into waterfalls and beaches of green-blue water popular among surfers.
