It is a long-established eel restaurant located on the road approaching Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. Every day, it is crowded with customers who come aiming to eat eel. The secret sauce enhances the flavor of the eel which has been gently grilled with proficient skill to retain a full texture: the secret sauce has continued to be added to the eel extract since the establishment of the business in 1910 during the Meiji period. The interior of the store is a place you can feel relieved as if you had come back to the countryside. Please be advised that seats cannot be guaranteed by making a reservation.

Well, demonstration was interesting, disappointed by actual unagi meal. The bones were not soft enough, annoying! That was the third unagi meal I had in this trip and not impressed at all.

At the Banya diner, owned and operated by the fishermen’s cooperative, you can enjoy a hardy fisherman’s meal of the morning’s fresh fish or shellfish catch at a fishermen’s cooperative price. In addition to the fresh catches of the season, they also offer their regular specials. The rice bowls topped with fried shrimp or calamari are so large, the toppings hang off the sides.

Very popular place by the sea. Our friends favorite seafood restaurants. Noisy and not that fancy decoration, but main feature is the food - it is so fresh and very delicious. We ate that kind of...

This eel vendor is near the main gate of Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. They roast kyosui eel raised in the Oigawa River, fed by water from the Southern Japan Alps, over binchotan charcoal, brushed with a secret sauce made with fine varieties of soy sauce and mirin cooking sake. Dishes include eel served marinated on rice, kabayaki style, and shirayaki style. Other cuisine features carp and suigo (riverside district) fowl.

Unagi and rice was excellent. We were happy to be taken there by our Narita guide as it is a place he only visits once a year with his wife. It’s that special! Price was Yen3000 for an Unajudon which...

The Fish is a market place for Minamiboso area. It is a pleasurable facility housing a cafe, sourvenir shops, and a restaurant overlooking the ocean from which you can dine on the fresh catch of the very same waters. The Baumkuchen confectionery Minamitei, awarded the highest Monde Selection Grand Gold Quality Award for two years running, is located here. You can watch the chefs making the confections through a glass window.

The Fish restaurant in Kanaya is a great place for lunch. It is very popular, so if you go there on a weekend, expect a wait to get a table. It was initially confusing for us (not being fluent in...

Established in 1954, Ezawa is the birthplace of Katsuura style dandan noodles. With its soy-sauce based broth, original rayu chili oil, and flavorful toppings, these satisfying noodles are rich and spicy. The shop closes when it runs out of broth, so be sure to come early!

Osakana Kurabu (“Fish Club”) is a seafood restaurant located near Tomiura fishing harbor in Tadara, Tomiura Town, Minamiboso City. The restaurant is run by the Iwai-Tomiura Fishing Cooperative, besides Donburi (rice bowl) dishes—including “Tomiura Fisherman’s Don” made with fresh fish and seafood landed at Tomiura fishing harbor, Tendon (rice with tempura), etc.—it also serves a range of other dishes, including sashimi arrangements and grilled fish, etc., at very low prices. Osakana Kurabu is famous for its “Manpuku Set-meals,” featuring sashimi, deep-fried foods, etc.

The restaurant serves all sorts of set meals, formal meals, individual dishes and course meals, as well as unagi-ju and unagi-don (types of eel on rice dishes) using domestically sourced eel and naturally sourced eel on rice depending on the season. The restaurant has honorably received the Imperial chrysanthemum emblem from Shinsho-ji Temple which has been used as the current restaurant name since from at least the Tenpo period.

Marufuji is located inside Shiosai Marketplace along the Sotobo Kuroshio Line. It provides sushi made from freshly caught fish from the local fishing port at a reasonable price. In addition to fish, customers can choose sushi made with broiled wagyu beef or whale meat.

This is a Japanese confectionery shop, founded in 1899, located on the Omotensando Road in Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple. It is known as the shop that introduced chestnut yokan, sweet bean jelly, to Japan and the jelly was based on the vegetarian cuisine ‘chestnut soup’ of Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple. The sweet bean jellies such as the Gokujo-oozao-youkan made by traditional methods, are famous and have been loved for many years as a souvenir of pilgrims to Naritasan. The Peanuts Monaka, a sweet using peanuts, a special product of Chiba, as well as standard Japanese sweets such as kintsuba and dorayaki, and seasonal sweets are also available.

Ive noticed each time I went to this shop that the shop assistants were not friendly. They had only one kind of yokan (mushi-yokan) for tasting. It was nice to have a tiny piece with a cup of tea...

Kodama Family Restaurant was founded in 1965 and is operated by a butcher shop. In addition to noodles, it serves a wide variety of rice dishes and prix fixe meals. It is famous for its cheap, delicious, and generously portioned Dandan Noodles, and its Katsu Raisu (pork cutlet on rice) and Yakiniku Raisu (grilled meat on rice) are also recommended. The broth for the Dandan Noodles is bright red, but it is not all that spicy. Instead, it is slightly sweet with a rich, savory flavor.
