What is Saitama?
Eclipsed by neighboring Tokyo, Saitama is often branded as the sleepy suburbs. However, look a little deeper and you'll uncover quaint towns bursting with history and crafts from the kurazukuri Edo-period clay houses of Kawagoe to the ancient tree-enveloped temples of Chichibu.

- A pink landscape and strawberry picking—a Chichibu day trip for spring
- 1days
- You cannot speak of Chichibu in spring without mentioning the pink-flowered moss phlox. The flowers spread across the landscape, creating a fluffy carpet of pink that is a photographer’s dream. There is no other place in the Kanto region to see moss phlox on this scale. Chichibu in springtime also offers a feast for the five senses, including strawberry picking and gorging on locally grown organic vegetables.

- Drive through Chichibu in summer and enjoy fruit picking and boating the Nagatoro Line Kudari
- 1days
- Only an hour and a half by express train from Tokyo, Chichibu in Saitama is an ideal destination for an easy weekend getaway. Chichibu’s local delights include blueberry picking from the start of June to the end of August, waraji katsu (a thin deep fried cutlet that is first marinated and rolled in breadcrumbs), and Nagatoro Line Kudari river boating, which is both thrilling and relaxing. Before heading home, drop by Matsuri no Yu for a relaxing soak in a hot spring right in front of Chichibu Station.
