The Dotonbori Annex of the famous tonkotsu (pork bone) ramen restaurant Ichiran. The retro Showa fashioned store is adorned with tables where you can enjoy a conversation with friends or family over a bowl of ramen. Their tonkotsu broth is a closely guarded secret refined over many years. Come taste the unique flavor of their noodles paired with a secret blend of chili pepper in their tonkotsu ramen. Ichiran's famous solo counter spaces are also available for the single customer.

I arrived shortly after 9 AM, for a quick ramen breakfast. There were no lines, and I walked straight in, purchased my meal tickets in the vending machine, and was told to sit anywhere. The menu...

One of the symbols of Osaka and the Dotonbori, this crab restaurant is easily identified by its giant moving crab sign. Here diners can enjoy fresh crab year round, sourced from locations such as the San’in region and Hokkaido as appropriate to the season. The restaurant’s signature menu option is its “kani-suki course,” with which diners can enjoy crab with the restaurant’s secret dashi stock. The colorful “kani kaiseki” course meal is also popular for parties and banquets. A popular destination for tourists, the restaurant also sells its special crab vinegar and crab rice gruel in convenient packages to take home as souvenirs.

First off. It is expensive with the cheapest set at ¥5,500 before tax but I guess you’re getting what you are paying for. The service is exceptional even if we are English speaking tourists. It is...

    Osaka Osakashi Chuou-ku Doutombori 1-5-5
Okonomiyaki CHIBO is a restaurant specializing in Okonomiyaki (savory pancakes), located in Dotonbori in the Chuo Ward of Osaka City. The restaurant’s original pancake mix—which is made from around 20 different types of flour mixed with high-quality onsen water—ensures plump pancakes with a mellow flavor. Okonomiyaki CHIBO pays particular attention to its sauces, which play a key role in enhancing the flavor; the restaurant’s low-calorie original sauces are made using carefully-selected fruits and vegetables. The spacious dining area, with around 200 seats, is kept spotlessly clean, and the restaurant is a popular choice for dates and for women to get together with their female friends.

Delicious and fun watching the cooks perform. Food was great and every well priced. Portions are huge and the staff very friendly. Recommending to share one portion of okonomiyaki for two.

    Osaka Osakashi Naniwa-ku Ebisuhigashi 2-3-9
Kushikatsu Daruma head office is a very famous specialty kushikatsu (a grilled skewer) restaurant even for Shinsekai, a famous sightseeing place in Osaka. This well-established restaurant opened in 1929. It is also well-known as the birthplace of kushikatsu and often featured on TV and in magazines. It achieves a perfect balance by extracting the taste of ingredients with an uncompromising quality of batter, sauce and oil. The famous Original Kushikatsu, which is succulent beef in freshly fried crispy batter covered with sauce, has an irresistible taste. There are only 12 seats at the counter, so waiting in the queue is unavoidable.

Our guide said he could eat 50 skewers. My question:WHY? In a city known for great beef, pork, seafood and vegetables, at this restaurant you get slivers of unremarkable filling in breaded skewers...

A venerable takoyaki octopus dumpling shop located next to Namba Grand Kagetsu in Osaka City’s Chuo Ward. Known as the orthodox paragon of the flavor of Osaka takoyaki, almost every day sees long lines of tourists and locals waiting outside the shop’s door. The shop’s vaunted dough, made with a kombu kelp and bonito dashi stock, is fried up crisp on the outside and chewy and viscous on the inside. In addition to standard takoyaki sauce, the shop offers soy sauce, a spring onion and salt sauce, and a seasonal sauce to popular acclaim. Eat-in space available.

Osaka is the Japanese capital of street food and one of its signature dishes is takoyaki. In the area of Namba/Dotonbori Ive found Wanaka and during my holiday I ended up eating takoyaki there every...

    Osaka Osakashi Chuou-ku Sennichimae 2-3-17
Fukutaro located in Chuo Ward, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture is an okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) restaurant and is famous with long queues. The most popular dish is the negiyaki using plenty of green spring onion produced in Osaka. It is an exclusive dish in which the homemade soy based sauce goes well with the flavor of the batter, and the Sujinegiyaki with beef sinew is particularly popular. As seafood such as octopus, scallops and oysters is purchased directly from Osaka Chuo Market, it is freshness itself. There is a range of okonomiyaki with a springy texture and a la carte menu items. Inside the restaurant, it offers an atmosphere of an old-fashioned okonomiyaki restaurant in downtown Osaka. Booking is not available.

Hard Rock Cafe opened near the entrance to Universal Studios Japan in 2001. The spacious interior is divided into several zones with different décor themes. Throughout the restaurant there are displays of clothing worn by famous rock singers, including Lady Gaga, which are sure to interest rock fans. The menu consists entirely of American/Western foods, including hamburgers, fish & chips, sandwiches, etc. Hard Rock Cafe can also cater for parties, including after-parties for birthday and anniversary celebrations.

Certainly not Japanese cuisine but nonetheless tasty and plentiful. Very busy the night we were there but service was still attentive and speedy. Lots of merchandise also availble, allbeit pricy.

The first location in the Kansai region for the popular casual restaurant from Hawaii designed around the concept of “all day breakfast.” Here diners can eat hearty breakfast dishes from morning until night. The chain’s Harajuku location ignited the current pancake boom in Japan. The airy, natural atmosphere of the restaurant will remind you of a relaxed Hawaiian home. The shop’s signature pancakes are served topped with a mountain of whipped cream, but there are a wide variety of other selections on the menu, including eggs Benedict and omelets. A venerable “yoshoku” Japanese-style Western restaurant located in Osaka City’s Chuo Ward said to be the originator of omelet rice. It is believed that a dish created for a regular with a weak stomach who always ordered rice and omelets in 1925 became the model for the popular Japanese dish. The restaurant is housed in a tea ceremony house-style purely Japanese building and the omelet rice served here tastes extra special when eaten while seated on a zabuton cushion on the tatami mat floor. In addition to standard ketchup-based omelet rice, the restaurant also serves a wide variety of variations, such as hayashi sauce and beef stew-based versions.

Like fine wine, this restaurant ages very well. Consistently delivering simple comfort food at a high level. The omurice is minimalistic but it is very tasty with fluffy egg, tasty sauce that makes...

This is a specialist “Kushi Age” (deep-fried skewered meat and vegetables) restaurant almost directly below Osaka Tsutenkaku Tower. The big billboard of “Kushikatsu daruma” is the restaurant’s landmark. This is a long-established Kushi Age restaurant which has continued for four generations since it was established in 1929, and it is a popular restaurant which continues to have queues form outside as it has a flavor liked by the average person in Osaka. In addition to the counter seats in the store, there are also 16 table seats so you can enjoy coming in a group or coming with the family. The specially made sauce, fine coating and exquisite original oil is well balanced, and the flavors extracted from the raw ingredients are surprisingly light. The crunchy interior has a sticky food texture—even those people who do not like deep fried food will find them delicious to eat.

Great experience there. Ordered one of the prefix lists. Cant go wrong there and then ordered some more of what we liked. It was super tasty and the orders come out super hot. Can get enough of this...

A takoyaki (octopus dumpling) shop located in the Dotonbori area of Osaka City’s Chuo Ward easily identifiable by its unique sign enwrapped by a giant octopus. This venerable shop is famous even in Osaka, the capital of takoyaki restaurants, and its dumplings are distinguished by their spongy and viscous texture. The “meibutsu bikkuri takoyaki,” only served at the main restaurant location, features huge chunks of plump wild octopus sticking boldly out of the dumplings. In the eat-in space, octopus shabushabu and dried octopus-based oden stew are served in addition to takoyaki and akashiyaki.

The long line should be a dead giveaway if you somehow miss the big octopus signboard (its so obvious). Really one of the best, if not THE best takoyaki in Osaka. A MUST is not an understatement.

    Osaka Sakaishi Sakai-ku Shinzaikechouhigashi 1-2-1
This long-established Japanese-style confectionary store, located in Sakai, was founded in 1329, in the late Kamakura period. Their specialty walnut mochi's name is derived from green soybean paste wrapped in mochi. The exquisite balance of the product's softness and the bean paste's smoothness is something people never tire of, according to its reputation. Their take-out menu is so popular that there is always a line extending out of the store. Additionally, seated within the eat-in space inside the store, customers can also enjoy shaved-ice walnut mochi, as well as the store's regular walnut mochi.

The dessert here are ok... not as refined as in Kyoto. Service is lacking. Can skip if you have no time to wait in the queue.

A venerable fugu (puffer fish) restaurant founded in 1920 famous for its giant fugu-shaped lantern hung out front. This popular restaurant serves dishes made with wild, domestic fugu at reasonable prices. One of the oldest “yoshoku” Japanese-style Western restaurants in Osaka, founded in 1910, famous for its curry rice. The shop’s renowned curry is served mixed with rice and topped with a raw egg, an idea born out of a desire to serve piping hot curry in a time when no commercial warming or reheating devices were available. The only toppings (other than the raw egg) are onions and beef. The shop’s “light” dashi stock gives the curry a unique flavor, and adding some sauce provided at each table further enhances the deliciousness. The closest station is Namba Station.

A one-minute walk from the North Exit of Nagahoribashi Station on the Sakaisuji Line, or a five-minute walk from Shinsaibashi Station on the Midosuji Line. This popular curry restaurant in the underground shopping area CRYSTA Nagahori has not changed its flavor since it was founded in 1947. The recipe for this Indian curry was passed down by the founder's mother who was taught authentic curry by people from India. The established chefs serve Indian curry with a great balance of sweet and spice and use carefully selected ingredients. You can also order spaghetti and pilaf.

This is a quick place for a very affordable curry menu. Small cosy place which serves Indian curry. It is spicy and tasty.

The restaurant’s colorful lunch options, served piled high on wooden plates, resemble veritable vegetable gardens. The restaurant also offers a variety of main dishes, including salmon, shrimp, and meat dishes. The restaurant’s hearty sandwiches are also popular.
