The udon at Osawaya which is said to take two days and 27 processes to make is delicious with the chewy, transparent, and smooth character of Mizusawa udon noodles. Founded in 1885, this shop is the birthplace of “toge-no-kama meshi” —a famous ekiben (bento lunch sold at a station) of Gunma Prefecture. Located close to Yokokawa Station, you can enjoy a meal in a nice old-fashioned cafeteria. There are plenty of set meals to try, including soba, udon, katsu-don, and of course the famous “toge-no-kama meshi.” Nearby is a historical resources museum covering the history of “oginoya” and Yokokawa Station.

This udon restaurant is located along the Jomo-Sanzan Panorama Road in Ikahomachi-Mizusawa, Shibukawa City. It boasts an over 400-year history as the place where Mizusawa udon originated. The udon is made with carefully selected wheat flour, Mizusawa water, and natural salt. They also serve “Shikaku Shimen,” flat, square noodles made using traditional techniques, “Koden Kirimugi” made with whole-wheat flour, and other varieties of udon.

Like most visitors to the Misusawa Kannon, it wouldn’t be complete without a good udon meal which is famous in this area. We picked Tamaru-ya located like 50m before the flight of stairs leading to...

Shango is a long established Italian restaurant where visitors can casually enjoy an extensive menu of cuisine made with carefully selected ingredients. The main store in Tonyamachi has a high open ceiling and visitors can see the stained glass window from seats on first floor, giving the restaurant a European feel. The pasta and pizza dishes are large portions at reasonable prices, but the set menus are recommended for their good value.

"This service area is located towards Katashina Village, via National Route 120 from the Kan’etsu Expressway Numata Interchange. It is in Hatomachi Toge Pass, one of the gateways to Oze. The location is perfect, with the Hatomachisanso accommodation facility established here, as a base when accessing to Mt. Shibutsu, one of Japan’s top 100 famous mountains, and Heaven’s Paradise Ayamedaira. There are stores, restaurants and souvenir shops that sell local Katashina Village ""Oze brand"" merchandise, mountaineering goods and so on. Among these, the original Scarlet Runner Bean Soft Cream is very popular. During the season, due to car access limitations, it is recommended to take a bus or taxi from Tokura nearby."

This yaki soba noodle shop was founded in 1957. Its “black” yaki soba is famous and has been featured on television and in magazines. It features thick noodles smothered in the shop’s original sauce. It’s dark and delicious, and the simple flavor accentuates the sweetness of the cabbage. Their “yaki manju” steamed yeast buns with miso-dare sauce are also popular. A takeout menu is available.

This udon shop in Aioicho Town, Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture is a famous place for traditional local cuisine called “himokawa.” With noodles over 15 centimeters in width, it provides a great taste in slippery, supple textures. You can enjoy it as the famous “mori himokawa,” or in curry nanban, with grated yams or covered in egg. Popular both for lunch and for dinner as an izakaya (Japanese pub), you may find lines forming during peak times.

This soba noodle shop is located on Prefectural Route 4 at Akagisan in Gunma Prefecture. It has a relaxed, Japanese-style atmosphere with a structure that gives it the feel of an elegant Japanese restaurant. They make their own noodles, mill their own flour, and even grow the buckwheat themselves. They use spring water for the soba, pumped up from 100 meters below ground. The noodles come in 180, 360, and 1,800-gram portions heaped on a large noodle tray so you can share with a number of people.

The soba is excellent and home made quality is fabulous. Worth to visit for eating but many people queuing.

Using only domestic chickens no older than 50 days, Takahashi no Wakadori has provided the same, delicious secret sauce flavored chicken since it first opened. This ramen shop is particular about the flour it uses. It uses different types of flour for each of its homemade ramen, Mazesoba and Tsukemen dishes. It has a popular set menu called Komugi Zanmai, which is unusual in that it is a course meal with three different types of noodle, so customers can taste the differences between them. It is opens at 7 a.m. and offers a Morning Ramen dish for customers to eat in the morning. "This shop which sells Joshu's specialty Yaki Manju operates from an old Japanese-style house associated with Kunisada Chuji. Kunisada Chuji was a rebel of the late Edo Period, a great sinner according to the ruling class, and a Robin Hood-type hero according to the locals. The shop's name comes from the fact that it was built from materials recovered from the assumed last hiding place of Chuji. The shop recommends eating its fluffy Manju, flavored with plenty of sweet miso sauce, at the fireplace inside the shop while they're still hot. The Saka-manju coated with sauce and baked to make ""Baked Manju with red bean paste filling"" are also popular."
