Founded in 1885, this shop is the birthplace of “toge-no-kama meshi” —a famous ekiben (bento lunch sold at a station) of Gunma Prefecture. Located close to Yokokawa Station, you can enjoy a meal in a nice old-fashioned cafeteria. There are plenty of set meals to try, including soba, udon, katsu-don, and of course the famous “toge-no-kama meshi.” Nearby is a historical resources museum covering the history of “oginoya” and Yokokawa Station.

横川駅前のおぎのや本店の向かいにあるお店の資料館です。おぎのや、峠の釜めしについて紹介されています。休日などは、本店順番待ちのスペースにもなります。

軽井沢-安中エリア観光時に立ち寄り。横川駅から徒歩数秒、おぎのや本店の目の前にあります。入口も控えめなので、気付かなければ通り過ぎる程。館内もこじんまりとしていますが、おぎのやの釜めしの歴史に関する展示物や鉄道関連の展示もあり、新たな発見もあるスポットです。基本的に無人で、無料で見学できます。

近くにある横川サービスエリア上り線だけでなく、デパートの駅弁大会でも人気の峠の釜めしですが、実際に現場で食べないと駅弁でない！、という人には必ず訪れないといけないような場所です。つい20年ほど前までは、横川駅で機関車を付け替えないと碓氷峠は通れなかった、というような歴史も感じられます。
