A palace recreated deep inside the Huis Ten Bosch theme park. The structure, built with special permission from the royal family of the Netherlands, is a faithful recreation of the palace where Queen Beatrix lives. The Baroque style garden which extends behind the palace is a recreation of the Great Garden which was designed for the Dutch royal family. Inside the palace, visitors will find the Huis Ten Bosch Art Museum, whose collection includes etchings by Rembrandt.

This place is nuts. We live in the Netherlands and it was spooky how accurate the architecture on the theme park ‘streets’ is. We had a lot of fun taking photos and pretending we were back home...

Nagasaki Bio Park is unusual among Japanese zoos for keeping and displaying the animals in a nearly natural setting. Two hundred different species, including mammals, birds, and reptiles, live in the zoo, and visitors can encounter the animals everywhere and even feed them. Depending on the season, Nagasaki Bio Park features a number of other events, including fishing for crayfish, picking strawberries, or the capybara outdoor bath.

This is an interactive zoo. You go into their enclosures. Little vending machines take a 100-yen coin. You receive food for that particular animal, and they will eat it right from your...

Adjoining Nagasaki Seaside Park, this art museum impresses visitors with its open and airy atmosphere incorporating greenery and light. The building was designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates, a firm which also designed a famous Star Bucks Coffee building in Dazaifu and the Asakusa Culture and Tourism Center. The museum also displays artwork connected to Nagasaki and Spanish art pieces. A two-minute walk from the Dejima stop on the tramway.

Museum displays are changed every two to three years, with important articles from the collections of museums throughout China on permanent display. The adjoining Confucian Shrine was built in 1893 through cooperation between the Chinese Qing government and people of Chinese heritage residing in Japan and is an extremely rare example of authentic Chinese mausoleum architecture in the country. This is a huge park facing Nagasaki harbor. Inside are plenty of trees and an “aqua theater” using a stream of water originating from a mountain stream, making it a great place for children to play with the water. In addition, one can certainly spend a relaxing time here too with the park’s canals, the many bridges of “Oranda-zaka-bridge,” and the “Waterside Promenade” walking path.

In Nagasaki, we wanted to enjoy nature, so we went to Mizube no Mori Park. When we arrived at the park, there were many people relaxing in the park. There was a boy playing soccer, a group of high...

This zoo and botanical garden, situated on a rise commanding a view of Saikai National Park Kujukushima below, focuses on relaxation and the nature of the Kujuku Islands. The zoo presents around 60 species of animals such as lions and Amur leopard cats; there's also a penguin exhibit which boasts one of the largest overhead aquariums in Japan. The zoo also offers a full array of programs, including guided tours and animal feeding sessions, as well as rides on Taishu horses, a rare breed of horse of which only around 50 live in all of Japan. The zoo's greenhouse garden and grounds have been planted with some 1,200 species of plants; the 3,000-square-meter rose garden, in particular, is a must see in the spring and fall when its beautiful roses bloom in profusion.

If you present proof that you live in the city of Sasebo, you can get in for cheaper. Good penguin exhibit, where you walk under the glass-bottom pool and look up to see them swimming above you...

    Nagasaki Pref. Nagasakishi Matsuyamamachi
The atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki City on August 9, 1945. The Peace Park is located on a small hill in the north of the area on which the bomb was dropped and was created with the vow to prevent the recurrence of war and the hope of world peace. The bronze Peace Statue, 9.7 meters tall and weighing 30 tons, stands in the park. The statue’s right hand point towards the heavens represents the threat of atomic bombing; the left hand held out level represents peace; the closed eyes represent a prayer for the happiness in the next world of the victims of the bombing. The Peace Fountain is located in front of the statue and is inscribed with a quote by a young girl who wondered the town in search of water after the bombing – “I was so thirsty I could not stand it / Something like oil covered the entire surface of the water / But I wanted to drink so bad / Finally, I drank it, oil and all.”

Nagasaki Areas

around-area-map

This hidden corner of the country is rural Japan at its best, where underground activity is to thank for active volcanoes and bubbling natural hot springs along the Shimabara Peninsula as well as the crystal clear waters of the Goto Islands off the west coast. Less well known than Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park, Nagasaki commemorates its own past at the Nagasaki Peace Park, which sits alongside the charming Meganebashi stone bridge and a mix of religious buildings with beautiful architecture, such as the Zen Buddhist Sofukuji Temple, the Confucian Shrine, and the Oura Christian Church.
