    Kagawa Takamatsu-shi Otakamimachi 1058
This is an udon restaurant next to the Ota Pond, about 10 minutes by car from the nationally designated Special Place of Scenic Beauty, Ritsurin Park. This shop, recognizable by their large noren entryway curtain, offers the authentic traditional local Sanuki udon made from Kagawa wheat flour. This shop, in typical noodle manufacturer style, is a standing only restaurant enjoyed by the local residents. The broth, made from Hokkaido kelp and dried sardines from Ibuki Island goes well with the al dente noodles. Customers naturally come for lunch and dinner, but one of the attractions of this eatery is that some locals stop by for breakfast, so visitors can choose from unusual toppings such as a rolled egg, or sausage tempura. This shop also offers soba noodles and ramen, which is unconventional for an udon eatery.

This is the main store of Tamoya udon, which has shops not only around Kagawa, but also nationally and even overseas. Popular with the local residents, customers are always lined up at lunchtime and on the weekends. The spacious store has counter seating; tables, and also tatami floor seating. The restaurant is completely self-serve, so one can heat the noodles to the preferred temperature and pick one's own toppings of choice. One of its distinctive features is the open kitchen design, where all of the operations of food preparation are in view; from kneading the noodles, boiling, to frying the tempura. This is designed with the concept that 'each of the staff, as well as the owner, will work with a heightened awareness of the customer.'

This district, formerly full of warehouses, is now a multi-complex area as an extension of the Kitahama Alley area. In these warehouses, just a 10-minute walk from Takamatsu Station, are housed over ten shops and stores of various businesses, such as galleries, cafes, flower shops, and bars. This area was developed to revitalize the deteriorating warehouses used to store navy cargo wares by diverting the space to commercial use. The retro rugged ambiance of the navy warehouses lend themselves to a creative space that can be used for a variety of events such as live concerts, parties, exhibits, and more. Many events for introducing creative new styles and arts are held here.

Kagawa Areas

around-area-map

Japan’s smallest prefecture, Kagawa, may take up just a small corner of Shikoku, but it has grown increasingly popular with the recognition of Naoshima, its "art island" in the Seto Inland Sea between Shikoku and Honshu. Just a stone’s throw from the islands, mainland Kagawa’s prefectural capital, Takamatsu, holds history in its castle ruins and its pride and joy, Ritsurin Garden, is known as one of the country’s best gardens.
