Komame Shokudo’s shop was created by renovating a building that used to be for rice mill during early Showa period. It continues to preserve the food culture of Shodoshima Island. The wonderful local flavor is all handmade, so you can enjoy it fresh from the oven. From October to May, bento boxes can be purchased by making reservation.

Strawberry farm’s Ichigoya is a popular place for strawberry desserts like crepes and shaved ice made with strawberries grown on their farm. They also serve curry rice, making Ichigoya a full-fledged restaurant. Their strawberry roll cake makes a great gift. They are about a five-minute walk from Ieura Port.

About a five minute walk from the bus stop at Akasaka, Shodoshima Island in Kagawa Prefecture. This restaurant is one where you can enjoy richly diverse and creative dishes. We asked for some extra cheese to go with the pizza. And we ordered three pizzas. This was what we got. Not even enough for my kid!! Stingy and expensive place. Pretensious and snobbish.

Kagawa Shozu-gun Tonoshocho Fuchizaki Ko 2153-2
This is an original creative cuisine restaurant, founded with the owner's desire for his customers to 'enjoy the seasonally fresh food without the limited concepts of western or Japanese styles'. The chef serves up heart-warming dishes made from the fresh seafood caught fresh every morning, and from the fruit of the land. This restaurant, about 10 minutes from the Tonosho Port, with very high ceilings, provides a spacious and expansive atmosphere. The dinner menu, ingeniously created from the local seafood, has even been written up in tourism guidebooks. The cuisine is known for its distinctively exotic dishes made with such rare items such as eggs of sea cucumber, salted sea cucumber entrails or ovaries, and dried karasumi flavored octopus. The lunch hour menu is popular for the chef's special, which always is a surprise using the island's best produce.

Just a five-minute westerly drive from the Kusakabe Port, the trademark large phoenix and the orange wall of this cafe can't be missed. Visitors can enjoy their daily changing lunch menu and homemade sweets while overlooking the calm Seto Inland Sea. The crispy yet soft waffles are not overly sweet, with just the right flavor, and the size portions are just right for the energy needed for wandering around Shodo Island. The owner, who also operates a shot-bar, is an experienced operator, offering cocktails and wine in the evenings, because the cafe is open until rather late hours.

    店内もかわいい感じでパスタランチはとてもおいしかったのですが、お店の方がものすごく不愛想でがっかりでした。

Using hand-stretching methods said to be passed down from the Heian period, they incorporate modern hygienic standards and contemporary techniques to provide the tastiest noodles around. Their Shodoshima Island shop serves their famous somen, sells souvenirs, and offers the chance to try traditional hashiwake noodle stretching.

This is a restaurant on Shodo Island's main street, the Shodo Island Olive-dori shopping arcade. Located across from the Shodo government offices, it primarily serves cuisine using the local fresh catch of the day. Their menu offers not only combination set meals, but full course dinners or al a cart items, accommodating large parties to a woman visiting alone. Naturally, in addition to the Seto Inland Sea bounties, the Sanuki-gyu beef or Olive Beef raised in this paradise of sun and breezes, one can also enjoy the microbrew sake produced in these environs. Almost a half a century since its founding, this restaurant is a beloved restaurant to the locals.

They offer tasty sweets like their Chocolate Gateau, along with dishes like their spicy taco rice and daily rice specials. It's a great place to drop in while on the road.

"A Japanese diner style restaurant where customers can enjoy dishes made with olives, an abundance of which are grown on Shodoshima Island where the restaurant is located. The restaurant makes use of fresh, seasonal, vibrant vegetables provided by local Shodoshima Island farms HOMEMAKERS and Muro Farm and grown without the use of agricultural chemicals or chemical fertilizers. Particularly recommended is the island vegetable and ""three variety olive roast beef set meal"", which gives you the chance to taste three different, rare cuts of ""olive beef,"" a premium variety of Japanese black beef fed on pressed olives."

A noodle factory which has been making hand pulled noodles for some 400 years on Shodoshima Island. The factory offers tours which give participants the chance to see the production process. Wildly popular with tourists, tour goers can also eat some of the very same somen noodles they just watched being made right in front of their eyes. With an advance reservation, visitors can also try pulling some noodles by hand themselves, one of the most important steps in the production process.

  • Heiwado Main Shop
    Shopping
Kagawa Shozu-gun Shodoshima Cho Noma Ko 1411-1
This historic Japanese confectionery is said to be founded sometime during the Taisho period. This shop, with a distinctive exterior, which reminds one of bygone years, sells a large assortment of western and Japanese confections. The Shimamurasaki, a fine Japanese confection is one in which the highest grade of soy sauce, a specialty of Shodo Island, is added to the pastry dough enveloping a mildly sweet white bean paste, and has come to be one of the confections associated with Shodo Island. The popularity of this sweet, shaped into the shape of a brewing barrel, has not waned for many generations. Another sweet, which has become a popular item sold on the internet, is the Shodo Island Olive Castilla cake, in which olive leaf powder and olive oil is used. The Shodo Island Shoyu Castilla that has a faint aroma of soy sauce, and the Maiko Kiku confection, which sandwiches Hokkaido adzuki beans between western pound cake pieces, are beloved as well.
  • Suehiro Udon
    Gourmet / Alcohol
Kagawa Shozu-gun Shodoshima Cho Katajo Ko 44-224
This udon restaurant is approximately three minutes by car from the Kusakabe Port. Visitors can enjoy authentic traditional Sanuki udon in this quaint old shop. Their most popular item, which is enjoyed not only by tourists but by the locals also, is Olive udon. The resilient chewy firm noodles are topped with their own homemade salty pickled olives, a refreshing matched flavor for udon. To the dried bonito and dried sardine based broth is added just a drizzle of Shodo Island olive oil, giving it an elegant but richer flavor. Many of the dishes are unique, available only at this shop, such as the olive gyuniku udon, which is topped with a mildly sweet marinated Olive Beef, and the gyu-suji udon, which is topped with string beef.

Kagawa Areas

around-area-map

Japan’s smallest prefecture, Kagawa, may take up just a small corner of Shikoku, but it has grown increasingly popular with the recognition of Naoshima, its "art island" in the Seto Inland Sea between Shikoku and Honshu. Just a stone’s throw from the islands, mainland Kagawa’s prefectural capital, Takamatsu, holds history in its castle ruins and its pride and joy, Ritsurin Garden, is known as one of the country’s best gardens.
