Goyashiki is a typical example of a wealthy farmhouse in this region. Notable for both its age and architecture, it's a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property. Valuable features include the design of the main building and detached rooms, the four-legged front gate, the yakuimon garden gate, and the six storehouses on the grounds. Today Goyashiki is a restaurant serving elegant kaiseki course cuisine and local Sanuki fare including hand-made Sanuki udon noodles.

Traveling with friends who had never had Udon noodles before we decided that this could be a memorable restaurant to try them for the first time. To make it extra special we went for the kaiseki...

Founded in 1866, Tenkatsu is a Japanese restaurant with a long history. In the restaurant’s ground floor area, there is a large fishpond in the middle of the floor, with counter-style seating arranged round it. The second floor has quiet private rooms for entertaining, while the third floor has a banquet hall capable of accommodating a large number of guests; Tenkatsu is thus able to meet the needs of a wide variety of different customers. The menu features Japanese cuisine, with a particular focus on fresh fish and seafood from the Seto Inland Sea. Diners can ask to have one of the fish swimming in the fishpond cooked for them.

Well - it wasn’t a bad meal but we were left feeling it could - and should - have been much better. We had a set sushi, sashimi and tempura menu. By far the best bit was the fish - fresh and very...

This is a good place to stop while sightseeing at Shikoku's Yashima or Seto Inland Sea National Park. It has a restaurant and a souvenir shop with a large selection of Sanuki specialties, noted goods, folk crafts, and special merchandise. Adjacent to the Shishi-no-reigan Lookout, it offers a superb view of the Seto area you can take in while you dine. It's been selected as one of Japan’s 100 best sunset destinations, and the night view is great too.

This Japanese pub gets great reviews for items made with local Kagawa ingredients. Guests love their Sanuki Sanchiku: Sanuki beef, Sanuki Yumebuta pork, and Sanuki Sanchiku Cochin chicken. Everything on the menu is fantastic, including their multi-course meals, combination platters, and traditional Kagawa fare. They close as soon as their main dishes run out, so it's best to go early.

Operating as a beach clubhouse on the first floor and as a guesthouse on the second floor, this is one of only a few lodging facilities on the island of Megijima which is open year round. The establishment's dinners consist of hearty and visually appealing fresh seafood delights that surprise with both their extravagance and flavor. The clubhouse on the first floor serves shaved ice, curry, and other snacks and light meals.

Roughly eight minutes on foot from Kawaramachi Station, this restaurant features local Sanuki cuisine. The traditional local cuisine is recreated by Mr. Ryushi Matsuoka using only the day’s freshest ingredients from Sanuki’s abundant harvest. The first floor has counter seating and seating around a stove, while the second floor has tables for relaxing under andon lamp lighting, and Japanese-style rooms. You can order course meals with local sake, or order a la carte to get the famous “kankan zushi”, or “kawazakana no hirarani” —slowly simmered over three days.

You can try Takamatsu’s famous bone-in chicken at this restaurant, a 10-minute walk from Takamatsu-chikko Station with table and counter seating available, you can just drop in by yourself or with others. They use fresh chicken readied that morning. Try comparing the soft, juicy young chicken with mature chicken which gets more flavorful as you chew. The “bone-in chicken” is a fan favorite, with its spicy punch that takes about 20 minutes of slow grilling upon order. There are also various à la carte dishes like potato salad.

There 2 types of chicken thigh. The young one is super tender and delicious while the old chicken one is very chewy and unlike anything I have tried before. Highly recommend you guys to try both of...

Kagawa Areas

around-area-map

Japan’s smallest prefecture, Kagawa, may take up just a small corner of Shikoku, but it has grown increasingly popular with the recognition of Naoshima, its "art island" in the Seto Inland Sea between Shikoku and Honshu. Just a stone’s throw from the islands, mainland Kagawa’s prefectural capital, Takamatsu, holds history in its castle ruins and its pride and joy, Ritsurin Garden, is known as one of the country’s best gardens.
