You can try Takamatsu’s famous bone-in chicken at this restaurant, a 10-minute walk from Takamatsu-chikko Station with table and counter seating available, you can just drop in by yourself or with others. They use fresh chicken readied that morning. Try comparing the soft, juicy young chicken with mature chicken which gets more flavorful as you chew. The “bone-in chicken” is a fan favorite, with its spicy punch that takes about 20 minutes of slow grilling upon order. There are also various à la carte dishes like potato salad.

There 2 types of chicken thigh. The young one is super tender and delicious while the old chicken one is very chewy and unlike anything I have tried before. Highly recommend you guys to try both of...

This udon noodle shop is located a three-minute drive from the Takamatsu-nishi Interchange on the Takamatsu Expressway. Identifiable by its large triangular roof, the restaurant serves springy udon noodles. The Niku Udon noodles are particularly popular; the vaunted bowl consists of an exquisite pairing of salty-sweet meat, rich dashi broth, and tasty noodles. Noodles; the sweetness and texture of the onions; and flavorful, tender meat – many people make their way here from beyond the prefecture’s borders just to try this tasty dish. The restaurant has been making its noodles based on the philosophy that good udon starts with good noodles since it was established in 1958.

This Italian restaurant is located an eight-minute walk from Kotoden Kawaramachi Station. Operating out of a renovated 80-year-old Japanese home, the hideaway-style restaurant exudes a faintly nostalgic atmosphere. The restaurant serves choice Italian cuisine crafted with an abundance of seasonal Setouchi ingredients, such as the chef’s vaunted antipasto, a world cheese platter, ever-popular trippa tomato stew, and a hot salad consisting of vegetables baked in a brick oven at 400° C.

This Chinese dim sum specialty shop is located along the Takamatsu Lion-dori shopping arcade that runs north and south from Takamatsu Mitsukoshi department store to Kawaramachi. The constantly rising balls of steam direct one to the richly flavored niku-man steamed meat buns sold here. These super-sized buns are 10 centimeters across. The thick gravy like center is just the ideal consistency for enjoying the buns while strolling. Top the bun with the vinegar-soy sauce, which comes with the bun in the small container, and you have an altogether different flavor. Many customers stop to buy a few as a take-home gift, after a few drinks because the shop is open until mid-night.

You can't miss this Omurice (omelet with rice) specialty restaurant with its retro-style facade along Prefectural Route 155. One can savor this Omurice dripping with barely soft-boiled egginess. Their specialty is the very filling Deluxe Omurice made with three eggs. The melt-in-your mouth goodness inadvertently brings a smile to one's face as the Omurice topped with the rich demiglace sauce sparks your taste buds. Visitors can select the toro-toro Omurice that is just a mound of rice with gooey egg topping, or the traditional Omurice with a thin omelet wrapped around tomato rice.

Kagawa Takamatsu-shi Imazato Cho 1-28-27 Apple House 1F
With their trademark orange walls, at this udon eatery, as the name indicates, one can enjoy bukkake udon. But one of the most popular variations with the very satisfying Stamina Bukkake comes with meat, deep-fried tofu, grated daikon, and wakame seaweed, all topping the wonderfully slippery yet chewy noodles. The combination of the sweet-and-sour marinated meat and daikon together with the rich dashi broth is so delectable, you are hooked after one helping. They have many items on their menu in addition to udon; so visitors can enjoy nabeyaki udon (udon hotpot), curry udon, soba in soup, rice balls, and many other items.

This Japanese confectionery shop, established in 1953, is directly across from the Kotoden Takamatsu Chikko Station. It sells seasonal Japanese sweets and the line of confections from the nationally designated Special Place of Scenic Beauty, Ritsurin Park. One of the most popular items, handed down since it’s founding, is the Ritsurin-no-Kuri sweet, with the distinction of appearing exactly like a real chestnut. The confection has a delicately flavored center of chopped chestnut and house-made white bean paste, to remind people that very long ago there were many chestnut trees in the Ritsurin Park.

Kagawa Areas

around-area-map

Japan’s smallest prefecture, Kagawa, may take up just a small corner of Shikoku, but it has grown increasingly popular with the recognition of Naoshima, its "art island" in the Seto Inland Sea between Shikoku and Honshu. Just a stone’s throw from the islands, mainland Kagawa’s prefectural capital, Takamatsu, holds history in its castle ruins and its pride and joy, Ritsurin Garden, is known as one of the country’s best gardens.
