    Hokkaido Kawakamigunteshikagachou Kawayuekimae 1-1-18 Kawayu Onsen Inside the station building
    A café and restaurant built inside the now unmanned train station of Kawayu Onsen in 1936. What was once offices and the station master's office is now a relaxing, retro restaurant. The station master's office with its beautiful stained glass was once where Emperor Showa had a break. The slowly stewed, mouth watering beef stew is particularly well known, drawing guests far and wide to try it.

    A small station cafe, we had a long wait for the train at Kawayuonsen station and decided to try it. The service was very good, the menu is small but the food was tasty. Worth a visit.

    This long-established sushi restaurant also specializing in shell fish and live crab was founded in 1926 and is located in the well known fishing town of Kushiro City, Hokkaido. The restaurant serves high quality seasonal food which is unique to Kushiro and guarantees to satisfy even those local customers who are most particular about their food. Their most popular dish is the Omakase Sushi, a set meal with 10 different kinds of sushi and other dishes served in a bowl. The restaurant’s seafood chirashi sushi (mixed ingredients on a bed of rice), which comes in big portions, is also very popular especially at lunch time. As well as seating at the counter, where you can enjoy conversation with the sushi chef, they also have private rooms where you can relax.

    This cozy little restaurant located in Kushiro Town, Kushiro County, Hokkaido, offers Western-style lunches and set meals all in big portions. The restaurant is famous for its zantare, which is the Hokkaido specialty of zangi, otherwise known as deep fried chicken, covered with a sweet and sour sauce. The store has been widely covered by TV and magazines. Large helpings of zantare go well with rice so you’ll never tire of the taste. Nanban Tei is a really popular place, always busy at lunchtime so be prepared to wait.

    This restaurant is situated in front of Mashu Station at the gateway to Teshikaga in eastern Hokkaido. A popular dish here is their Mashu pork rice bowl with carefully selected Hokkaido pork loin grilled over a wire mesh and covered with a special sauce. It has been awarded second place in the nationwide ekiben (a bento, or packed lunch, often sold at train stations) contest, and is delicious even when eaten cold. The Mashu-no-megumi ramen noodles in a specially made salty soup, made with the secret ingredient of cow’s milk, and topped with plenty of locally sourced vegetables, is especially popular with the ladies. Poppotei is a lovely little restaurant, frequented by tourists and loved by local residents too.

    Nabekyuu is a restaurant specializing in local cuisine that is located near Lake Akan, surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. As might be expected, the Sockeye Salmon and Japanese Pond Smelt caught locally in Lake Akan are particularly popular. In winter, the Japanese Pond Smelt is in season and can be eaten as Tempura, fried in a light coating of batter; it has a wonderful crisp texture and a delicious mild flavor. The Sockeye Salmon is in season in early summer, when it can be enjoyed as Sashimi or grilled with salt; both are equally delicious. The restaurant’s Sockeye Salmon Don (a bowl of fish and rice) and Japanese Pond Smelt Don dishes are also available as half-sized portions, so diners can try both fish together.

    The handmade soba is very tasty and texture is definitely very from those ready made one. Worth a try if you are around the area.

    At this rest house on the shores of Lake Kussharo in Teshikaga Town, Kawakami County, Hokkaido, you can witness the mysterious hot-spring sands where you can dig a small hole in the beach and watch it fill with spring water. Along with offering boat rentals to explore the lake they also have a restaurant, popular amongst local gourmets with menu items such as Kusshi Ramen with its milk-tofu and miso flavor or their Benimaru Croquette combo plate. At the shop they offer rare soft-serve ice cream flavors like pistachio and beer.

The restaurant plays jazz music and has an antique interior. A popular dish is slow cooked beef stew called “Witch’s Monologue set”. The bouillabaisse dish lavishly using fish stock, shrimp and scallops called “Great Cheats Magic” is also popular.

    絵本に出て来そうな雰囲気のあるお店ですが、店内奥には靴を脱いで上がる個室もあります。カニミソグラタンも美味しいですが、こちらのペスカトーレも美味しい!

The Japanese barbecue-style baked dishes are only available for breakfast and lunch from 7:30 a.m. to 14:00.

    This sweets shop is located in the vicinity of the entrance to the sightseeing district of “Lake Mashu”, Teshikaga Town in the Kawakami County of Hokkaido, and this lovely light yellow building is a landmark. You can taste rich sweets such as the ice creams, soft serve ice cream and crepes which have been made using plenty of the milk which has been milked in the morning from the dairy cows which are raised on the underground water from Lake Mashu. The most popular is the special rich milk soft serve ice cream, and the Mashu blue ice cream is also popular. The shop’s interior has a bright open space where you can eat in.

    Taste is nothing special - there’s a lot better out there. Vanilla is 9% non fat milk solids and 5% milk. Missing the deep rich creaminess you get from better ice-creams.

    A homemade ice cream shop. Focusing on the concept of simple is best, Cream Dowa uses top quality ingredients. The shop's selection primarily consists of various gelatos made with plenty of raw milk. The three most popular flavors are the sweet-smelling vanilla, milk, and matcha green tea. The light pink sakuramochi gelato took the gold prize in the Foodex Japan 2012 local ice cream grand prix. You can enjoy your ice cream served on a cone or in a cup and the shop also ships in the local area.

Panapana offers a selection of breads made with seasonal ingredients such as walnut pesto bread made plenty of walnuts and basil as well as sweets like apple custard made with colorful apples enwrapped in custard with cinnamon sugar on top, and quiche made with seasonal vegetables. The boutique area sells ceramics, felt goods, and other arts and crafts by various artists personally brought back by the owner from around the country.

    ちょっとした売店と小さなレストランを女性2人で運営されており、客が多いわけでもないのにたいへん忙しそうでした。ブランド牛を勧められたのでステーキを頼みましたが、正直200g2,800円の価値はないかなあ…。外のバーベキューコーナーで食したので、空気は最高に美味しかったです。

    This Italian restaurant secreted away in Teshikaga Town, Kawakami County has a natural river (Kushiro River), flowing directly from Lake Kussharo, behind the restaurant. The natural setting and log cabin structure make for a wonderful homey setting to savor Italian cuisine. Light cafe dishes like pasta and pizza are served for lunch, and at night it becomes a Spanish style bal. The amatriciana with Teshikaga Mashu pork, and the Hokkaido pescatore full of fresh seafood is highly recommended for lunch. Their original recipe of baked cheesecake is smooth and not too sweet, and goes well with both wine or coffee.

    Very kind welcome from the owner as he accepted us without reservation. Pizza are good and pasta excellent for this nice restaurant built by the owner. Good beers also
