    Daimon Yokocho Hakodate Hikari no Yatai is an alley located in the Daimon district in front of Hakodate Station. It is lined with 26 restaurants where diverse cuisine can be enjoyed, including ramen stores, seafood restaurants, sushi shops, and bars. Regular events are also held such as Daimon Bar offering one drink and one meal for a set price of 500 yen during certain times, and it can be seen bustling with many people. It is also a spot where you can enjoy contact with the locals with the many regular customers not to mention the staff.

    We found this small restaurant that seats only 16 persons. We had excellent crab shabu-shabu and went back again the next night to try their other dishes. The best crab fried rice I've ever tasted...

There is also an outstanding atmosphere with two live performances on the stage inside the restaurant every evening. Additionally, there is bar seating so that you can even go on your own without feeling any hesitation. Good access with a seven-minutes’ walk from Hakodate Station is one of its attractions.

It started out as a small dining hall for morning market buyers, and now it has become a famous shop that has been covered by the media. Here you can taste fresh seafood, mainly of Hakodate, all at very affordable prices. They have bowls of rice topped with salmon roe, scallops, fish and other seafood, you can try the impressive unidon (sea urchin on rice), or how about the ika somen (squid noodle) which uses squid caught fresh in the morning. The sweet rice cooked in pots over charcoal is also really nice.

    This izakaya (Japanese-style pub) is in the lively Donburi Yokocho Market (Hakodate morning market) just a two-minute walk away from Hakodate Station. Inside the shop live squid swim in tanks and their signature dish of live squid on rice, using the squid caught off the coast of Hakodate, is a huge hit. It’s a gem of a dish which is often highlighted by the mainstream media. The squid has a transparent body, and a sweet and crunchy texture, and whether it’s on a bed of rice or in your mouth it’s constantly moving about. You can taste the seasonal delights while you embrace the historic Hakodate air in the calm atmosphere of the restaurant.

Its most well-known product, skewered dumplings, features a stretchy texture made with the Hokkaido rice. As well as their classic soy sauce, bean paste and sesame flavors, other seasonal flavors are also popular. They sell other Japanese confections such as dorayaki (а red-bean pancake) and daifuku (a small round mochi stuffed with sweet filling) which are great as souvenirs.

    Located directly in front of JR Onuma-Koen Station, this sightseeing facility houses souvenir shops, rest areas, restaurants and a rental bicycle service. The lakeside of Lake Onuma is a treasure trove of autumn leaves, fresh greenery, and wild animals, and takes about 70 minutes to go around the lake by bicycle. Renting a bike is a great way to get about and take in the scenery. In the restaurant you can taste the flavors of Hokkaido with dishes using the local specialty of water-shield (a kind of plant), and Mongolian-style mutton barbecue set meals. Don’t forget to check out the views of Onuma from the observatory on the third floor!

    大沼ビールを飲みたくて、ブロイハウス大沼に行ったのですが、臨時休業でがっかりしてたところ、こちらでも飲めることを思い出して来ました。 生ビールはやはり美味しいです。 注ぎ方も良く、満足して帰りました。

Using his eye for a good catch, only the finest, freshest seafood is served here. While you wait for your food you’ll also be served some handmade appetizers as an extra treat. Many customers come just for these snacks which use ingredients in season for the time of year, such as nimono (a simmered dish), tsukemono (preserved vegetables) and shiokara (a kind of salty seafood).

There’s a bountiful variety of seafood on display in the tank inside the shop. On the second floor is a room with tatami seating which can be used for groups or special events.
