This is the Obihiro head office of the famous Hokkaido confectioner, Rokkatei, of which the company was originally founded in Obihiro City. All kinds of Rokkatei sweets are sold here, such as the classic Hokkaido souvenir Marusei Butter Sandwich Cake and sweets made with white chocolate, etc. On the second floor is a cafe where you can get some light food and desserts. Popular dishes are the Saku Saku Pie with thick cream wrapped in pastry, and the Marusei Ice Cream Sandwich Cake. Also in the building is a well-established western-style restaurant, an art gallery and event halls.

Tokachi Butadon Ippin is a specialist Buta Don restaurant located on Shinroku Street, around 15 minutes’ drive from Obihiro Station. The restaurant’s pork portions are substantial but tender, with a slightly sweet flavor to the fat. Carefully selected Japanese pork tenderloin (backstrap) is grilled using only the best Bincho-tan charcoal (made from Ubame oak wood); to avoid spoiling the natural flavors of the ingredients, the specially-made sauce is prepared without heating it. Diners can specify how much rice and how much pork they want, as well as the size of the pork portions and the amount of sauce to be added. Located in the very center of town which is a five-minute walk from JR Obihiro Station, there are now nearly 20 shops offering food such as yakitori, Japanese food, and Italian cuisine. The volunteers have excelled about taking measures to deal with winter chill, and have given consideration to comfortable use of the venue throughout the year.

It has an amazing seven classic variations of ramen, which are made using as little additives as possible, as well as two types of rich ramen that are available in limited quantities. There are three types of soup, 100% chicken, soy sauce, and Japanese-style, as well as two types of noodle, low water-content noodles and high water-content noodles. This long-established store was founded in 1972, and its sweet potatoes with a history of over 20 years are exquisite. Being able to make purchases based on the weight of their items, customers are welcome to buy as much as they like. There is also soft-serve ice cream, as well as three types of Shanruru cookies - cheese, cherry and raisin. The store has a cafe, where customers can enjoy a limited number of sweet potato sets, which are made with deliciously chilled sweet potatoes. There are two types - bean paste or cheese - of Obanyaki, also well-known by its nickname, Takaman, and at peak times, the store sells as many as 2000 of these in a single day. Additionally, there are also Anman (steamed bun with sweet beans), Nikuman (steamed meat bun) and Mushipan (steamed bun) for sale. It is also possible to buy soft-serve ice cream and shaved ice, either to eat in the eat-in corner or to take away. The store has its own car park, so it is also easily accessible by car.

You can purchase all sorts of Rokkatei sweets, such as Marusei Butter Sandwich Cake, a classic Hokkaido souvenir, as well as their strawberry chocolate which is freeze dried strawberry covered with chocolate.

The shop’s flagship product is its “3-fold Fromage,” which is made from three types of hand-made cheese produced either in Tokachi or elsewhere in Hokkaido; this has a rich, distinctive cheesy flavor. Inside the shop, which is beautifully decorated in a “naturalistic” style with white walls and the soft warmth of wood, there is an impressive range of cakes and other baked confectionery that are ideal for taking back home from your trip, either as gifts for friends and relatives or to eat yourself!
