    Sapporo Beer Garden is a complex of restaurants located to the east of Sapporo Station. There are five restaurants full of individuality with different tastes and atmospheres on the site where a historic red brick building stands. Among them, Kessel Hall has an enormous beer brewing cauldron (kessel) made in 1912, and you can enjoy draught beer directly from the brewery and “Genghis Khan” cuisine in a large space like a beer hall. In the Garden Grill, there is a fully private room complete with an exclusive terrace where you can relax and enjoy the private space.

    Café Gake no ue, literally meaning cafe on the cliff, is as the name suggests perched on top of a 40 meter high cliff overlooking the Shirai River and located a short distance from the Jozankei hot-spring resort in Minami Ward, Sapporo City, Hokkaido. Built so that the cafe protrudes from the cliff, the beauty of the valley with the Shirai River flowing directly below can be enjoyed from the seats at the back of the cafe. About 10 seats can be squeezed on to the cozy terrace which is only open during the summer months. Take some time out and enjoy the cafe menu, including aromatic siphon (vacuum pot) coffee, and gake no ue cake made with sour cream butter, all while taking in the beautiful natural green surroundings.

    A cafe specializing in desserts, located on the first floor of the basement in Paseo West in Kita Ward, Sapporo City, Hokkaido and run by the Hokkaido dairy maker, Yotsuba. In addition to the richly flavored parfait which uses plenty of refreshing soft ice cream and the light, fluffy baked pancakes, there are a wide variety of dishes on the menu which normally use milk products such as carbonara and gratin, etc. The Yotsuba white parfait made with plenty of soft ice cream and fresh cream is especially popular. They also have a recommended seasonal menu and the place is always crowded with both local customers and tourists.

    Situated in a good location close to Sapporo Station is Sanchichokuso-Hokkaido, a popular restaurant where you can get all sorts of local Hokkaido treats at reasonable prices. They have plenty to choose from, including Akkesh oysters delivered fresh from the market every day, red king crab from the Sea of Okhotsk, Mongolian-style mutton barbecue, seafood sashimi, and so on. Their most popular dishes on the menu are the Treasure Ship, a deluxe assortment of 6 kinds of fresh fish, and the Salmon Roe Rice Bowl with copious amounts of roe loaded on top of the rice. There’s plenty of space for seating at tables as well as 46 private rooms.

The restaurant offers reasonably priced lunches such as pasta, pies and curry using plenty of local Hokkaido ingredients. For dinner you can enjoy a stylish French course perfect for celebrating an anniversary or other special occasion all while taking in the beautiful night views below.     Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill is one of the main tourist attractions in Sapporo. Located on site is the Hitsujigaoka Rest House where you can enjoy some fresh lamb on the Mongolian-style barbecue. In addition to the all you can eat course, you can order individual dishes from the menu, including dishes which use delicacies from the North, Hokkaido deer, and Shiretoko chicken. It’s a great place to have some food after enjoying the wonderful scenery of the Ishikari Basin and the flocks of sheep grazing on the wide, open pastures.

    Incredible restaurant that has appeared high in the rankings for best Hokkaido ramen in various media. Their Miso Ramen is particularly highly reviewed as gourmet Sapporo. Their fantastic ramen soup began in Sapporo's famous ramen restaurant Sumire with dried sardines and vegetables in a pork broth base giving it a thick, deep flavor. Topped with plenty of bean sprouts and ginger to accent the great taste. An incredibly popular restaurant for regular locals and tourists alike.

    This is a restaurant serving delicious additive-free soup curry. It also has good accessibility being about a two-minute walk from Kotoni Station. The curry is a blend of 25 varieties of spice with chicken and beef bone stock, and tomato. The taste of the curry slow cooked for ten hours is undoubtedly excellent. The large cut vivid vegetables and spicy aroma is mouth-watering.

    This Genghis Khan (lamb BBQ) restaurant located within “Hakkou Gakuen” farm in Toyohira Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido, has an open terrace. In summer you can enjoy charcoal grill Genghis Khan at your table outside. The meat is not the usual lamb but only mutton more than one-year old is served. The meat has a good balance of fat giving it a rich taste which goes perfectly with the ginger and spicy sauce. In addition to the vegetables and rice ball set menu there is also an all-you-can-eat plan.

Popular menu items include the Ishiya Original Tea Set, which comes with popular Ishiya snacks; the Chocolate Drink; and the Shiroi Koibito soft-serve ice cream. The photogenic, 30 centimeter-tall giant parfait is also a favorite choice.

    A beer garden owned and operated by the Asahi beer company. Connected directly to an Asahi brewery plant, here you can drink fresh-made Asahi draft beer. The menu primarily consists of yakiniku Japanese-style barbecue and Hokkaido's renowned jingisukan lamb barbecue. The restaurant is particularly choosy about the meat varieties served. The lamb meat is Texel lamb from Holland raised on the Nozawa Hokkaido Farm in Chitose City. The beef is Tokachi bakushu beef raised on beer lees on a farm in Tokachi. The restaurant also serves grilled fish caught off of Hokkaido.

    A cafe and shop built on the Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill easily identifiable by its red roof. The structure was erected to house the Australian athletes during the Sapporo Olympics; after the event was over, it was moved to its current location. The first floor is the cafe area while the shop is located on the second floor. The soft serve ice cream counter sells distinctly Hokkaido-style flavors such as Shiroi Koibito and melon. When in-season, there's also lavender ice cream.

    A restaurant not far from Nakanoshima Station in Sapporo's Toyohira Ward. Inheriting the Maruha name from the previous owner, Maruha Beyond aims to serve delicious ramen that you won't tire of even if you eat it every day, whether you are a man or woman, young or old. The restaurant makes a variety of broths, including dried sardine, thin pork broth, thin chicken broth, and thick pork bone broth. Chuka soba, seabura miso, tsuke-soba-different flavors are used for different noodles. The orthodox chuka soba noodles in a soy sauce broth is clean tasting and great for a quick bite, while the garlic flavor of the seabura miso ramen, made with plenty of back fat, is so delicious you'll keep wanting to take just one more bite. Maruha is so popular it often sees lines of customers waiting to get in; the restaurant closes when the day's supply of broth runs out.

    This old Japanese-style confectionery shop located on the first floor of Sapporo Paseo at JR Sapporo Station is the only outlet in the capital. Founded in 1930, the wakasaimo cakes that the shop takes its name from are a Hokkaido slow food. While they look like baked sweet potatoes, they don't contain any. They're made with white bean jam from Hokkaido grown daifuku beans and use kombu seaweed to replicate the fibers inside sweet potatoes. They're known for their soft, flaky, and gooey fresh baked texture. The shop's moist and chewy fresh baked Poppo Manju are a Sapporo Station specialty and highly popular. There are also many items only available at the Sapporo Paseo Shop like cream puffs and pie.

    This yakiniku barbecue restaurant is located in Sapporo City's Kiyota Ward. Its Wagyu Obanyaki Japanese beef plate comes highly recommended. Operated by the long-established butcher's shop Kanehiro, guests enjoy A4 and A5 ranked Wagyu beef carefully selected from around the country. They recommend quickly cooking it to your taste and then dipping it in egg to enjoy sukiyaki style. The traditional Hokkaido flavor of their Kanehiro Genghis Khan, a yakiniku barbecue dish with sauce, is also a draw. They also provide tempting toppings that enhance the flavor of grilled meat like mountain wasabi and garlic roasted in oil.

    Located in the Kita Ward of Hokkaido, this rich Asahikawa ramen store is famous for its savory broth ramen. The chewy thin noodles, are perfect combination of flavors with the rich soy sauce broth beloved by many. Their extensive menu line-up offers everything from the basic Su-ramen, ramen with only broth and noodles, (four kinds: light or dark, soy sauce, neo, and salty), miso-ramen or noodles made from sesame seeds. Any of the menu items can be made with AKR (Asahikawa Kato Ramen) noodles by request.

    Born in Sumikawa, Sapporo City in 1985, this small diner is a historic curry soup specialty shop. The reddish tomato based curry soup made with the trademark rape blossoms has a pleasantly sour taste. The Chicken Veggie Curry is its signature dish with chicken, Italian tomatoes, eggplant, and rape seed blossoms. There are six spiciness levels to choose from for every dish. One can choose your own toppings and make a customized curry as well.

    A Western confectionary shop opened in 1999 located at the entrance to the Utsukushigaoka area in Sapporo City's Kiyota Ward. An atmosphere which somehow feels as if it was transplanted here from some other country hangs in the air of this fashionable shop. The bright and open shop's cases and displays are filled with breads baked daily by skilled bakers, cakes made with seasonal ingredients, castella cakes, madeleines, and other sweets. The shop is dedicated to using select ingredients such as Hokkaido brand rice varieties and fruits. The mille-feuille, made with Hokkaido apples, won at the Sapporo Sweets competition. The shop's signature baumkuchen are branded with a cute rabbit mark.

    This coffee shop has an impressive exterior made from red brick. The retro shop is in a renovated brick warehouse that was built in 1967. The relaxing space makes use of the original construction and has a comfortable retro atmosphere. Since its establishment, the store has been particular about roasting bean in-house, and offer 20 kinds of coffee such as Miyataya Special Blend, with an exquisite bitterness and richness, and Miyataya Specialty Coffee, with a carefully selected growing area. They also have a good food menu with items like their Sakurajima Biyuton Freshly Fried Mille-feuille Cutlet Sandwich and Miyataya Coffee Blancmange.

    A popular ramen restaurant which values old-fashioned ways. The cozy restaurant has counter seating as well as spacious tatami mat seating. Even families with children will have plenty of space to stretch out here. The restaurant takes particular pride in its handmade noodles created each morning by the owner using 100% Hokkaido-grown wheat flour. The owner particularly recommends to tsukemen dipping noodles. You can enjoy a chicken broth-based dipping sauce flavored with seafood and soy sauce together with the restaurant's superb handmade noodles. Other delicious menu selections include the Toripaitan Shio, a chicken and salt broth ramen made without any additional flavorings whatsoever; and the Nagoya Cochin Shoyu, a ramen made with a blend of a clear Cochin chicken broth and a flying fish-based broth.
