This bakery is located a two-minute walk from Minosakamoto Station. It makes bread using homemade natural yeast in a small log cabin. The bread using Hoshino natural yeast is a popular item packed with the uniqueness of the store. It is recommended to eat it simply while enjoying the fragrant scent. The stone kiln that bakes bread as well as wheat, chestnuts, red beans and yeast was also built by the store. There are many products that you cannot find anywhere else such as panettone with yogurt yeast or bread with strawberry yeast.

This western-style restaurant was made out of the idea of a place where one can enjoy food without any pretense. You can enjoy exciting meals at this restaurant located a ten-minute walk from Nakatsugawa Station. They boast an exquisite pizza made from their home specialty dough and sauce, and baked in an authentic kiln. You can order their margherita and quattro formaggi pizza carefully baked one by one for takeout. There are also plenty of lunch and dinner courses that change according to the season. There is also an all-you-can-drink plan, so the restaurant can be used for parties.

This confectionery is located about 100 meters from the Toson Memorial Museum. It is a specialty store that serves the local Kiso dish Goheimochi, which is made by crushing rice, wrapping it around a skewer, applying sauce to it, and cooking it. Goeheimochi comes in all kinds of shapes depending on the region and its culture. For example, there are waraji, dango, rice balls, and kiritanpo shaped Goheimochi, but at this store only waraji and dango shaped Goheimochi is offered. The sauce is made with ingredients such as sesame, walnut, or peanuts, which makes the Goheimochi irresistible when served fresh. In addition, it has many different souvenirs including jizake manju, karasumi (salted and dried mullet roe) and yokan.

This cafe is located on the corner of the lower entrance to Magome-juku. Right around the corner of a cobblestone street is the Magomekan Annex where Japanese snacks and sweets can be enjoyed. Known for being the best place to see the sunset in Magomejuku, many tourists stop by from noon to evening after taking a walk. It sells curry with finely chopped vegetables, beef bowls, coffee with walnuts and amazake, making it ideal for a break. You can comfortably relax while looking at the seasonal scenery of the Central Japanese garden.

Love the hot snacks of transparent jelly like noodles and red beans with chestnut soft cream. Café have a viewing area with large windows. Recommend you have coffee/tea and some snacks at the end...

This art museum uses a machiya (traditional wooden townhouse) in Hida-Furukawa, and is located a five-minute walk from Hida-Furukawa Station. The museum is the shoin style of traditional Japanese residential architecture that exemplifies the skills of Hida's craftsman, and exhibits Japanese paintings from artists such as Taikan Yokoyama and Gyokudo Kawai, and cultural exhibits such as Koimari from the 17th to the 19th century, and Daimyo Hanami Shigeshi from the 18th to the 19th century. There is even a cafe where you can enjoy special sweets, coffee and beef stew while you relax in front of a Japanese traditional garden. The museum is so well integrated into the city landscape that it is almost unnoticeable at first glance, and has won the Scenery Design Award.

A visit to Hineno is exquisite and divine! Not to be missed. Try to sit by the garden window. I recommend trying both the cheesecake and the scone.

This authentic handmade soba buckwheat noodle shop is where you can enjoy noodles made with coarse flour from Hidashokawa. To enjoy the original sweetness and aroma of buckwheat, this shop's suggested way of enjoying it is to have the first bite without dipping sauce but with Andes rock salt. The original simple and fresh taste of buckwheat spreads in your mouth as you eat it. You can taste a deeper and different taste with salt if you have it with wasabi from Hidasugo after enjoying its aroma. Sobayu (hot water left in the pot after boiling soba) is a strong type that is slightly thick. It is rich in rutin, which is said to be effective in lowering blood pressure.

"This cafeteria attached to the Yamanomura Camping Ground at an altitude of 1,000 meters. You can enjoy Yamanomura's specialty products in the mountains surrounded by broad-leaved forests of trees such as white birch and Japanese beech. The specialty is the ""Yamanomura Soba"" which comes in two varieties: ""Hikigurumi (Ground Buckwheat)"" and ""Dattan (Tartary Buckwheat)."" Everything for making soba noodles from cultivation to milling is done in Yamanomura. Dattan buckwheat is cultivated taking advantage of the locality of Yamanomura which is located at a high altitude, and characteristically contains more rutin polyphenols compared to ordinary buckwheat. It is said to prevent lifestyle disease and have a good effect on the skin, and on busy days, it is not uncommon for the dish to sell out."

"This long-established Japanese confectionery shop is located a three-minute drive from Kamioka Castle. They sell specialty Sasamaki Yokan (sweet bean jelly wrapped in a bamboo leaf), fluffy castella (sponge cake) and hand-made rice cakes that are sold only in the winter. A famous confection in Kamioka, Sasamaki Yokan is made by hardening sweet bean jelly liquid and pouring it into kumazasa (kuma bamboo grass) that is folded like a butterfly. This sweet bean jelly has an aroma and leaf vein from a bamboo leaf clearly, and its light taste is great for gifts. It is mentioned in a haiku by one of the leading female haiku poets of the Showa period (1926-1989), Teijo Nakamura, in her book ""Furusato no Meika (Famous confectionery in hometown)."""

The shop has a structure called a ""yanaba"" (pier) in the Neo River that flows nearby, and the freshly caught freshwater fish are used to create a variety of cuisines, such as shioyaki (grilled fish with salt)."

Located in Magomejuku of Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture, this soba restaurant is in an old wooden building that exudes history. The interior has a Japanese presence that maintains the feel of a post town, keeping a calm atmosphere you can stretch out in. The dirt work floor is cool in summer, and the coal fire in the fireplace keeps it warm in winter. They do their own milling with a stone millstone, and the thick noodles—only enough made as needed for the day—are hearty and feature a unique taste. In addition to “zaru soba”, the “sansai soba” made with local wild vegetables is also popular.

A long-standing local cuisine restaurant Toson Memorial Museum near the center of Magome-juku in Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture. Daikokuya’s stately building, heavy with the air of tradition, houses a restaurant area, folk craft exhibition space, and gallery. Once the home of “Oyufu-san”, the first love of Toson Shimazaki and also subject of his poetry, the restaurant’s famed chestnut rice also made an appearance in Shimazaki’s novel, Before the Dawn. Here you can take your time and enjoy this culinary delight long-beloved by travelers.

The Train Bleu bakery, which attaches great importance to ensuring that ordinary bread is made as delicious as possible every day, is very popular with local residents. On weekends and public holidays, Train Bleu can get so crowded that it has to issue numbered tickets to customers. Besides basic, everyday breads, Train Bleu also sells first-class Viennoiserie (pastries); one especially popular product features seasonal fruit with cream on a delicate croissant base. The bakery closes when it is sold out for the day, so it’s best to get there early. Train Bleu is located around 20-minute drive from the Takayama Interchange of the Chubu Jukan Expressway.

SO GOOD! We waited outside for 15 minutes to get in but worth the wait! So flaky and delicious. Everything is about 300 yen or more. Make sure to get the strawberry tart with fresh cream!

This restaurant is located in Shirakawago, a world heritage site. You can enjoy a meal inside this kominka (old house) with a gassho (large thatched roof) style built over 250 years ago. Their menu is centered on unique local char dishes, mountain vegetable dishes, and meat grilled on magnolia leaves. Because they often receive many reservations by large groups, sometimes you can only visit by reserving in advance depending on the time of year. In addition, the second floor has an exhibition room decorated with old everyday items that depicts the lifestyle at the time to modern audiences.

A hideaway-style café located in the Oita Shuzo brewery building, which was constructed over 150 years ago. The café’s signature item is its soufflé roll, a roll cake which is flavored differently and topped with different things depending on the time of year—for example, in February, it’s topped with strawberry ice cream, while in November is topped with caramel and a broiled banana. The shop’s handmade warabimochi bracken starch dumplings, served in summer, are so popular they sell out by the early afternoon. One of the most charming things about the café is its many seasonal only items, such as the Hida apple crumble, only offered in fall and winter, which is particularly popular with women. The café also sells Japanese knickknacks.

This French restaurant is located a five-minute walk from JR Takayama Station right next to the Kokubunji-higashi intersection. The owner-chef has served the finest French cuisine using local Hida Takayama ingredients with the concept of local production for local consumption for some 30-odd years.
