Visitors can enjoy set meals and courses of Hitachi beef such as steak, shabu shabu, sukiyaki and hamburger steaks at this authentic Restaurant Iijima, founded in 1963. The restaurant is perfect for special occasions with its exterior that resembles an art museum and tranquil interior. There is a lunch box and takeout menu and the hors d’oeuvres accompanying the course are recommended. Enjoy the delicious flavors over a glass of wine.

A Japanese restaurant established in 1903 located a 20-minute walk from the north exit of Mito Station on the JR Joban Line. The restaurant serves monkfish, a delicate variety of seafood whose flavor can easily become off if not extremely fresh, paying great attention to the freshness and preparation methods used. Menu selections include monkfish nabe hotpot, vinegared monkfish, and monkfish sashimi, a particular rarity. The restaurant also serves gozen meals which include dishes like tempura made with natto fermented beans from Mito, and squid and natto; as well as traditional kaiseki course meals made with seasonal ingredients such as Hitachi beef and common orient clams from the Kashima Sea.

"A handmade udon noodle restaurant situated across the river west of the Ushibushi burial mounds. The restaurant operates out of a remodeled kominka (old Japanese-style house), giving it an elegant atmosphere. The owner, originally from Kagawa Prefecture, makes renowned, chewy udon noodles served piping hot fresh from the pot. The noodles are made with flour from a specially contracted farm in the nearby city of Hitachiomiya. The ""Momijiya Set"" meal, which includes an assortment of tempura and piping hot tofu, is particularly popular. The restaurant also offers tofu blancmange and sweet potato yokan jelly for dessert. The drink menu includes local sakes and shochues as well as seasonal beverages. This lively restaurant is so popular usually all seats are occupied during meal times."

"A cafe located on the bank of Lake Senba in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture. The cafe's floor to ceiling glass windows offer a sweeping view of the lake, and the bright, natural lighting gives the establishment a comfortable atmosphere. In addition to croissant and ciabatta sandwiches, swan-shaped choux cremes, almond cake, and other suitable cafe selections, the establishment also serves heartier fare like beef stew (the most popular item on the menu), and the ""Kobun Plate,"" which comes with several dishes. The cafe also has a shop area where you can buy ceramics and coffee beans."

A stylish, hideaway-style Japanese izakaya pub located a short walk from the south exit of JR Mito Station. After passing through a long entranceway, customers are greeted by low level lighting and a laid-back atmosphere. The pub has totally private and box-type semi-private seating. Dedicated to local production for local consumption, the pub offers dishes made with fish, meat, and vegetables from Ibaraki Prefecture like seared fatty Hitachi beef sashimi, fried natto (karaage), and sashimi assortments. The pub's melon cream sodas, limited to just five customers a day and served in a whole Ibaraki-grown muskmelon, are particularly eye-catching.

"A soba restaurant located a five-minute drive from Kairakuen Park's Kobun Bridge. Due to the presence of Mt. Yamizo and the Abukuma Highlands, the local area is one of the most fertile farming regions in northern Ibaraki Prefecture. The Naka River and Kuji River running through the area are also rich in minerals. Accordingly, the flavor, fragrance, and texture of the Hitachi Aki buckwheat grown in the area is exceptional. The father and son who run this restaurant make use of this prized buckwheat to make their noodles, alongside other ingredients grown in Mito and Ibaraki Prefecture as well as their polished skills. Particularly recommended are the ""Inaka Zarusoba"" cold noodles which present the simple flavor of the buckwheat used, and the ""Tokusei Mito Ume Curry Soba"" noodles made with Mito-grown turmeric."

The restaurant's cutlets are made with Ibaraki's famed Rose Pork covered with a breading consisting of panko bread crumbs prepared at a dedicated factory which adjusts its production methods based on the time of year and weather conditions. The restaurant is dedicated to serving tonkatsu that is delicious, safe to eat, and which won't cause heartburn. The abundant menu includes selections such as tonkatsu topped with Mito natto fermented soybeans and the restaurant's own ""Hakkai Tonkatsu"" flavored with garlic butter.
