    A father and younger brother of a sea urchin fisherman proudly create dishes with fresh sea urchin direct from the source at this restaurant in Shakotan Town, Shakotan County, Hokkaido. The restaurant’s signature dish, raw sea urchin rice bowl, is a gloriously simple mix of sea urchin, nori (dried seaweed) and rice. Shakotan sea urchins are served for a limited time only from between June and August. They also have plenty of other dishes on the menu to enjoy such as sea urchin and salmon roe rice bowl, and sashimi set meals. The restaurant is easily recognizable with its blue roof on white walls.

    夕方近くに積丹半島のウニを食べたくて、探して見つけたお店です。 どこも空いてなくて、このお店周辺だけ何店舗か開いてました。 ウニ丼。ウニたっぷりで臭みもなく、とても美味しかったです。 もう一つの三色丼、こちらも普通においしくいただきました。 証明が節電のためか、少し暗めだったのが気になりました。

    Converted from an old banya, or simple lodging house, is this impressive looking restaurant located in Shakotan Town, Shakotan County, Hokkaido. The restaurant owner is himself a fisherman and inside the restaurant you can find the place decked out with all sorts of fishing paraphernalia. Their signature dish, red sea urchin rice bowl made with the prized ezo-bafun uni (short-spined sea urchin), is only available from the middle of June to late August. You can enjoy the melting taste of this sweet, rich sea urchin. Other popular dishes include their large seafood rice bowl with masses of seafood packed on top of the rice. The restaurant is only open from late April through to early November.

    Fishermen Cuisine North Ryoba is a restaurant occupying three stalls in the crab market adjacent to the Sapporo Central Wholesale Market in Sapporo City, Hokkaido, that specializes in “Yanshu” (“Fishermen”) cuisine. The house special is Kaisen Don (a bowl of rice topped with seafood), made with fresh fish and seafood delivered directly from the market and Hokkaido-grown rice; the restaurant offers more than 30 different varieties of Don, besides a comprehensive range of other fishermen’s cuisine delicacies evocative of the seas off Hokkaido, including rice-balls, sashimi, Red King Crab and broiled Okhotsk Atka Mackerel. Yanshu’s Japanese Green Sea Urchin, with its rich, melt-in-the-mouth, sweet flavor, is also very popular, whether grilled or eaten with rice as a Don dish.

    The seafood is so fresh I’ve no complaints. Got to eat a slice of rock melon at 400yen. And tasted a grilled sweet corn. All good. On top of a whole king crab 1kg 6000yen.

    Nabekyuu is a restaurant specializing in local cuisine that is located near Lake Akan, surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. As might be expected, the Sockeye Salmon and Japanese Pond Smelt caught locally in Lake Akan are particularly popular. In winter, the Japanese Pond Smelt is in season and can be eaten as Tempura, fried in a light coating of batter; it has a wonderful crisp texture and a delicious mild flavor. The Sockeye Salmon is in season in early summer, when it can be enjoyed as Sashimi or grilled with salt; both are equally delicious. The restaurant’s Sockeye Salmon Don (a bowl of fish and rice) and Japanese Pond Smelt Don dishes are also available as half-sized portions, so diners can try both fish together.

    The handmade soba is very tasty and texture is definitely very from those ready made one. Worth a try if you are around the area.

The “Clan cuisine”, an arrangement of the ceremonial cuisine served at the wedding of the 14th lord of the Matsumae Domain, is popular as a menu for lunch. The restaurant has table seats as well as private rooms and can be used for celebrations or memorial gatherings.

    This seafood restaurant is just a one-minute walk from Hakodate Station, near the entrance to the Donburi Yokocho Market. They are the company store for Yayoi Suisan seafood, certified for flavor and freshness and famous for their homemade additive-free salted salmon roe. Their popular Daimyo (Lord’s) Serving arranges brilliantly colored seafood in a jet-black dish and is a prime example of the Hakodate Bukkake meal. Their specialty salmon roe has been featured on TV and included in the rankings for Hakodate’s top 30 souvenirs as chosen by locals.

The restaurant's service is excellent and Sushikin was listed in the Michelin Guide Hokkaido 2017 Special Edition. Local musician Teru of the group Glay has eaten here with his family since he was a child and Sushikin is also a destination for fans of the band. The restaurant's sea urchin rolls, topped with shredded konbu seaweed, are called Glay Rolls.

The restaurant's prices are also reasonable and it is popular in part because of its hearty portions of fresh seafood. The restaurant is snug but has 10 counter seats as well as a tatami mat seating area with a sliding shoji door, making it easy for families to eat here as well.

Dedicated to the concept of serving fresh Otaru sushi at reasonable prices, the restaurant offers a selection of reasonably-priced set meals. Particularly popular is the Otaru Set, which comes with five pieces of sushi, tempura, chawanmushi savory egg custard, soup, and a mini donburi rice bowl. Tatsumi also has a children's set for families with children.

    One of the branches of a long-standing sushi restaurant. Zenan is notable for its open and modern interior. The restaurant's huge windows offer a view of Otaru Canal. Zenan stocks its seafood from the company's own fish dealer, including whole tuna. Particularly recommended is the 11 piece sushi set. The restaurant also has a full menu of side dishes like tempura. There's a seven piece set of sushi selected by the head chef for those with smaller appetites. Zenan also stocks 80 varieties of awamori liquor from Okinawa which go great with sushi.

    First visit was in winter 2013, we had a booking, no queue & wait list. And this is our 2nd visit in summer 2018, we waited 20 minutes because we had no booking. Staff are very friendly and helpful...

    A cafeteria inside the Abashiri Prison Museum. The museum was once an actual prison used during the Meiji period; since remodeled, it contains exhibits presenting the life of prisoners and guards when the facility was in use. Wax figures in actual rooms in the museum recreate what daily life looked like in the prison. The Kangoku Shokudo (Prison Cafeteria) serves recreations of meals actually provided at Abashiri Prison. There are two prison foods sets-a Pacific saury set meal and an arabesque greenling set meal. In addition to prison food, the cafeteria also has more tourist-oriented fair such as a zangi fried chicken rice bowl, ikura salted salmon roe rice bowl and a menchi-katsu deep-fried breaded ground meat patty meal.
