    Hitsuji-no-oka, literally meaning ‘sheep hill’, is a restaurant in Furano where you can enjoy the rare Suffolk sheep. The food at the restaurant is not like any other restaurant, and it was included in the 2012 Michelin Guide. They have a farm also where you can get up close with the animals and feed the rabbits and sheep. It’s a popular place to go especially with children.

    This Mongolian-style barbeque in Susukino, Sapporo was founded 60 years ago. It is an interestingly built restaurant with a large almost 15 meters square horseshoe counter with the kitchen in the center. When you sit down you will have a charcoal fire with pot right in front of you where they will prepare a dish of mutton along with other meats and vegetables. This is how Daruma works. They also offer an iconic side menu with their special kimchi and chanja (spicy cod).

The lamb meat is Texel lamb from Holland raised on the Nozawa Hokkaido Farm in Chitose City. The beef is Tokachi bakushu beef raised on beer lees on a farm in Tokachi. The restaurant also serves grilled fish caught off of Hokkaido.

They recommend quickly cooking it to your taste and then dipping it in egg to enjoy sukiyaki style. The traditional Hokkaido flavor of their Kanehiro Genghis Khan, a yakiniku barbecue dish with sauce, is also a draw. They also provide tempting toppings that enhance the flavor of grilled meat like mountain wasabi and garlic roasted in oil.

They take pride in their signature dish, the Suffolk-Donburi bowl, where the best of the rare Hokkaido Suffolk lamb portions are marinated in a homemade red wine sauce together with Chinese miso and spices, and blended with egg yolk to bring out the exquisite lamb taste.
