A restaurant located on the first floor of the long-standing Minamikan ryokan inn on the shore of Lake Shinji in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture. A white sand and pine garden, backed by Lake Shinji, stretches out beyond the restaurant’s windows, and the restaurant has both tables and private dining rooms with views of this beautiful scenery. The restaurant’s vaunted regional cuisine makes abundant use of the seasonal culinary blessings provided by the San’in, such as fresh seafood from the Sea of Japan and seasonal vegetables from the countryside. Minami’s taimeshi minced sea bream with rice is made according to a traditional family recipe based on the shirukakegohan and sobagu loved by Matsudaira Fumai, the seventh lord of the ancient Matsue Domain.

A whiff of kaiseki in a stylish atmosphere, thats what you get when dining at Minamis, the restaurant thats part of the top Matsue ryokan. We had lunch and could afford it. Wasnt the best we had...

At this restaurant guests can enjoy Japanese seasonal cuisine made using produce in season collected from various parts of the Sanin region as well as fresh fish from one of the three tanks in the center of the restaurant. The cuisine of genuine taste and high quality, served in a relaxed atmosphere, is highly satisfying. Private rooms are also available on the top floor and are perfect for special gatherings such as a family ceremonies or welcome parties etc. During the season of crab fishing, the menu includes a course of Matsuba crab and snow crab.

I came to Matsue WARAKU with my family. There was a new menu, so I got it. The sashimi is gorgeous and surprised! Oysters(Iwagaki) are big, and sashimi of spiny lobster is rare! It was very...

"This Japanese restaurant is located next to Lake Shinji. Managed by the long-establish inn ""Minamikan"" in Matsue, guests can dine while looking out on Lake Shinji. The restaurant offers rice with whole steamed sea bream with a taste that is a family tradition, passed down and conceived by the first-generation chef. In addition, you can enjoy various tastes of Matsue, such as the specialty unagi-mabushi eel over rice served with condiments and dashi broth poured on top., a traditional Japanese cuisine course using seasonal ingredients, Izumo soba noodles, and sushi. Because they also other children's sets, the restaurant can be enjoyed by everyone from couples to families."

Yamaichi is a restaurant located on the banks of the Ohashi River approximately 12 minutes on foot from Matsue Station, run by a family with a very cozy atmosphere. On the counter guests can find the day’s obanzai, a traditional style of Japanese cuisine native to Kyoto. Yamaichi mainly serves dishes using seafood from Lake Shinji and Matsue specialty dishes. Their miso soup made with large clams from lake Shinji with their meaty, rich flavor is particularly popular. The restaurant also serves a whole range of local dishes which go well with a cup of sake such as their deep-fried moroge shrimp (one of the seven varieties of seafood usually found in Lake Shinji), or udon, as well as their pickled mackerel made with mackerel caught off the Shimane Peninsula.

We loved our dinner here. They don’t have an English menu but looking at Tabelog I knew they served oden and we wanted to try that. So we ordered oden, sashimi & eel (we heard someone else order it...

Nekkoya is an izakaya (Japanese-style pub) where guests can enjoy seasonal food from the San'in region including Lake Shinji. It is located along Ohashi River, about three minutes on foot from the north exit of Matsue Station. The warm, wooden interior of the pub with its spacious atrium type space has a very relaxed feel. The well loved and creative food on offer is a blend of both Western and Japanese tastes such as their deisui-shijimi, clams from Lake Shinji bathed in sake, and their dogi-no-ichiyaboshi (white fish salted and dried overnight), as well as their rich and juicy foie gras chawanmushi (steamed egg custard and other ingredients). Nekkoya is a relaxing place to have a meal while looking out over the river.

A restaurant about four minutes by car from Masuda Station. They offer fresh seafood and local cuisine with an interior that recalls a traditional Japanese minka house. They have a large tank with fish they use for the meals and serve super fresh nearly transparent squid that you don't often find in urban centers. The restaurant consists of mostly private seating for spending some quality time with friends. Their popular lunchtime Tagosaku Meal Set features fried fish.

A restaurant in Tsuwano, also known as San'in's Little Kyoto. Facing the Tsuwano River, the shop has an old-fashioned feel and offers light fare such as inari sushi and noodle dishes like udon and soba. Their unusually dark inari sushi is popular. Simmered slowly with a traditional sauce that's been handed down from generation to generation, the savoriness of the condensed soy sauce shines through. Because the vinegared rice also has a strong flavor, it goes great with the lighter soup stocks of the udon and soba noodles. The bite-sized inari sushi is available for takeout and makes a great gift after visiting Inari Shrine.

This small, unassuming place is at the foot of the path up to the Inari Shrine. Supposedly its the most famous eatery in town. The place is run by an old dude and he has modern and like medieval...

With the main building having been built in the Meiji period and a separate extension added at the start of the Showa period, Horai Kichijitsuan is a restaurant housed within the Horaiso complex of restaurants with a lovely adjoining garden. The historic building was originally opened as a restaurant ryokan from where guests can see the garden from any seat in the restaurant, table seat or private room. The restaurant’s Western and Japanese fusion of local flavors in their gozen and kaiseki-ryori (traditional Japanese meals brought in courses), made with ingredients from Matsue such as locally produced vegetables and seasonal seafood, are particularly well liked. Horai Kichijitsuan’s lunch menu such as their Koto bento with Matsue delicacies beautifully arranged in a white wooden box and tray is also popular. The nearest station is Matsue-Shinjiko-Onsen Station. From Matsue Station take the bus to the Prefectural Civic Center and the restaurant is located close to the bus stop.

We love this place. People were very friendly even though they spoke very little English. Food was very good and great Sake.

This Japanese-style izakaya pub is located in front of Tamatsukuri Onsen's Magatama Bridge. You can enjoy Shimane wagyu beef and fresh seafood from the Sea of Japan in this cute restaurant reminiscent of a Western restaurant. It uses A4 rank marbled Shimane wagyu beef. It is highly rated for being able to spend time with your children safely because it has completely private rooms (reservations required for six or more people). This restaurant is at the entrance to Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine. In 1972, town volunteers gathered money to remodel the Edo period silver mine managerial and administrative Kumagai family sake brewery into a restaurant. There is terrace seating facing the silver mine side, offering a relaxing time amidst the sound of the river below. They offer house-made, firm textured soba, rice bowls, and set meals in their full menu. Since there is an elevator installed, anyone can go up and enjoy the spacious second floor, as well. The view is beautiful through all four seasons, with the cherry blossoms in spring and the gingko leaves in fall being highlights.

At the end of historical town of Iwami Ginzan, in front of the terminal bus stop, it looks like a cheap choice for tourists. Actually, myself and my family did not expect much. Ordered Ramen...

An authentic kappo sushi restaurant a five-minute walk across the tracks from Tsuwano Station. It's a good place to try uzume-meshi, a rice dish that's a specialty of the Iwami region. The shop has a relaxed, nostalgic atmosphere. Dating back to the Edo period, at first glance uzume-meshi looks like another common rice soup called ochazuke. Tradition says its origins lied in hiding the main ingredients beneath the rice to appease Tsuwano's feudal lord, who was appalled by excess. Finely chopped carrots, shiitake mushrooms, kamaboko fish cake, etc. are simmered in a rich soup stock and served with rice in a lidded pot. It's delicious with fresh grated wasabi and nori seaweed, with crispy Japanese parsley accenting the lightly seasoned broth. The dish has been designated one of Japan's five most famous rice dishes by the Imperial Household Agency.

Beautifully presented fresh and tasty sushi at reasonable prices. Considering this is an inland town it was quite surprising. They have a partial English menu and pictures of the set menus...

A Kominka café&bar built over 100 years ago on the theme of local production-local consumption, Roan is a comfortable place to be and well represents the Japanese modern style. The variety of drinks available is striking, with a large number of umeshu (plum wines) from each region in Japan. The All-you-can-drink course is good deal, as you can try local sake and “kametsubo-jikomi” shochu.

Very nice restaurant in 温泉津, with most restaurant close at night, this is the only few opens at dinner time. Food price are reasonable and is tasty.

They offer seafood fresh from the local fishing harbor, bought at the fish market only two hundred meters from the restaurant by the restaurant's owner himself. They are famous for selected local Shimane ingredients in their ""Shimane Kyodo-ryori Hometown Cooking."" From fall into spring the recommended menu is Iriyaki hot pot, uses entire angler fish as big as 10kg or more. This fisherman's meal is served with a secret sauce and without any vegetables, and tastes exceptionally good. Shimane Areas

around-area-map

What Shimane prefecture lacks in size and population, it makes up for in scenery and ancient mythology. Izumo-taisha, in the middle of the prefecture, is said to be Japan's oldest Shinto shrine, where stories that delve into the creation of the Japanese race have been passed down over centuries. The 180 Oki Islands, a 40-minute ferry ride north of Sakaiminato, offer an undiscovered paradise well off the beaten track.
