Gourmet / Alcohol Spots in Totsuka / Kanazawa Hakkei Area

  • Ramen Sugita-ya
    Gourmet / Alcohol
Kanagawa Pref. Yokohamashi Isogo-ku Shinsugitachou 3-5
Ramen Sugita-ya is the first directly managed restaurant by Yoshimura-ya, which is widely known for its iekei-style ramen (pork bone broth with soy sauce and strait noodles). For many years it has carefully preserved the flavor and taste of its birthplace ramen. Large amounts of chicken bones and pork bones are used as a base for a broth of exquisite thickness. The cooks are proud of the careful, rhythmic way in which they drain water from the noodles, for this is one action that helps determine the taste. Inside the shop is a notice board that shows how to eat ramen in a tastier way. The shop opens quite early, at 5:00 a.m.
  • Ichirokuya, Isogo (original location)
    Gourmet / Alcohol
Kanagawa Pref. Yokohamashi Isogo-ku Mori 2-2-7
Ichirokuya, an Iekei ramen restaurant which serves broth made of pork bones and soy sauce, is located six minutes' walk from JR Isogo Station and along National Route 16. It serves three kinds of ramen: pork bones with soy sauce, pork bones with miso, and pork bones with salt. The owners painstakingly make their own broth by slowly simmering pork bones and use specially made medium-width noodles. There is nothing fancy here. Customers sit at a counter and buy their meals with prepaid tickets from a vending machine, but they may choose the thickness of the broth or the consistency of then noodles when they place their order.

Kanagawa Pref. Yokohamashi Sakae-ku Tayachou 1319

The restaurant also offers table seating and private rooms, which are often rented for ceremonial occasions. Guests can choose from a full range of prix fixe menus centered around udonsuki (a chicken and seafood stew) or meat.

Kanagawa Main Areas

around-area-map

Kanagawa prefecture acts as an extension of the Tokyo metropolis that spills over into coastal towns, most notably Yokohama city, heavily populated and known for its Chinatown and seaside attractions. Just the right distance for a day trip out of Tokyo, Kanagawa is home to some of Tokyo’s most accessible beaches, including around Kamakura, best known for its Big Buddha. Visitors can also travel a little farther afield for a weekend at Hakone onsen town.
