This gift shop is on Kita-oji street, near the Kyoto Botanical Garden and Kamo river, about ten minutes' drive from Kitaoji subway station. The word Omotase in the name is how one refers to gifts received, rather than gifts given, and this shop offers a variety of bento lunchboxes and stewed foods from venerable Kyoto restaurant Wakuden to receive. Their Wataboshi, based on the traditional Japanese bridal hood, is a manju bun made with chestnut paste wrapped in thin gyuhi mochi. The smooth chestnut paste and fluffy gyuhi earn them great popularity. The second floor of the same building also has a soba restaurant with counter seating.

    Kyoto Kyoto-shi Kita-ku Kamigamoikebatacho 23-2
This sushi and Japanese dining restaurant is found in a quiet residential district about ten minutes' walk from Kitayama Station. The cozy space is centered around the counter seating, and perfect for enjoying drinks and food. The hand-written menus describe the day's sashimi, grilled food, stewed food, fried foods and many other dishes, giving the image of a restaurant rather than a sushi place. The chef built his experience at Kyoto's preeminent sushi shop Matsuzushi. This shop is best enjoyed savoring their exquisitely flavored dishes with a drink and finishing up with nigiri sushi.

Kyoto Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
