Kyoto Prefecture Kyoto City Nakagyo-ku Hexagon Tong New Shin Kyogendo Entrance Matsukeba-machi 456
A venerable eel restaurant founded at the end of the Taisho period located in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. The warm and retro looking exterior looks the same as when the restaurant was established and stands out all the more amongst the throngs of buildings in Shinkyogoku. The key to the shop’s flavor is a secret sauce passed down for one hundred years which brings out the savory deliciousness of plump eels from Lake Hamana. Particularly popular are the standard eel rice bowl and the restaurant’s famous “kinshi-don”—eel rice bowl topped with an egg fried Kyoto style. One of the restaurant’s customs is the “Kaneyo Yose” held each month, an event which includes live entertainment with a meal.

The eel quality is really bad. This is definitely over-priced and even comparing to the tourists’ areas and pricing. Cheating the travellers and no heart.

A pike conger cuisine specialty shop located along the road leading from Tofukuji Station to Imakumano Shrine. In general, the shop’s pike congers come from Setouchi and are selected based on a policy of offering cuisine that is both delicious and inexpensive. In order to fully bring out the innate flavor of pike conger, the shop uses a uniquely blended vinegar-based sauce in place of the more traditional shredded umeboshi for seasoning. The X-rays of pike congers decorating the shop walls express the owner’s love for pike conger.

This inn is run by a gentleman who is both a fisherman and a chef. Although providing accommodations is its primary business, the inn serves lunch and dinner to those not staying overnight upon reservation. Please note that overnight guests are given preference at dinner service. The inn also arranges a number of seasonal activities for guests to enjoy. The featured activity for spring 2019 was an oyster seeding experience. You will definitely want to take advantage of such an opportunity to have an experience that only a fishing town can provide.

    Kyoto Kyoto-shi Kita-ku Kamigamoikebatacho 23-2
This sushi and Japanese dining restaurant is found in a quiet residential district about ten minutes' walk from Kitayama Station. The cozy space is centered around the counter seating, and perfect for enjoying drinks and food. The hand-written menus describe the day's sashimi, grilled food, stewed food, fried foods and many other dishes, giving the image of a restaurant rather than a sushi place. The chef built his experience at Kyoto's preeminent sushi shop Matsuzushi. This shop is best enjoyed savoring their exquisitely flavored dishes with a drink and finishing up with nigiri sushi.

Kyoto Main Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
