This is an old-fashioned retro-western style restaurant that was opened more than 50 years ago in 1967. Demi-glace sauce made from variety of vegetables is abundantly used in most dishes on the menu. The omelet with rice, a popular menu, can be selected from three sizes: small, medium, or large. On the menu besides omelet, visitors can enjoy fried shrimp, fried chicken and hearty hamburg stake.

We tried the omurice, chicken Cutlet, beef hash on rice and the croquette. They were ok. Not bad. But nothing to queue for.

Walking from Shijo-dori Street, Brasserie Cafe ONZE is on Kiyamachi-dori Street along the Takase River. They offer French home cooking including meat dishes and mussels. While French cuisine has a reputation for being high class and unapproachable, this cafe has an inviting atmosphere thanks to the owner's commitment to being the best and cheapest French restaurant in Japan. There are also plenty of wine and beer options, making it a popular spot for a drink as well.

This is Kyoto's first Thai curry specialist, and it offers authentic flavors from Thailand. Located five minutes' walk from Sagano Line Emmachi Station, and stands out for its vivid red noren curtain. The shop's most popular dish is the green curry, made with the shop's original green curry paste developed after long research using green chilis, coconut milk, and more. It has a deep, rich flavor with the perfect level of sourness. In addition to green curry, they also offer red curry and Massaman curry made from red curry with added peanut butter and spices, for a choice of three.

This Italian restaurant is less about choosing a dish from a menu, and more about the day's fresh seafood, seasonal ingredients, and recommended cooking style. The wide, stylish interior is hard to imagine from the stately exterior, and the luxurious wood grain, along with the lack of set menu, help this shop really stand out. The staff offer excellent explanations of the day's food, and customers only need to give their preferences or mood to get the perfect dish. They also have a sommelier-selected wine list to pair with their dishes for a bit of grown-up fun.

We went there twice seeking a reservation as we stayed nearby the restaurants, we have asked for table for two but the guy was so kind but could not understand French or English, he was kind enough...

    Kyoto Maizuru-shi Obashimo Takigaura 202-56
This French restaurant is located on a hill overlooking Maizuru Bay. Guests can enjoy authentic French cuisine in its relaxed apartment-like interior. Each of its orthodox French seafood dishes is utterly exquisite. One of these is their excellent butter sauteed abalone, the restaurant's specialty, which fills the mouth with the fine flavor of butter and shellfish. The restaurant's last chef was previously the sous-chef of Shima Kanko Hotel, so guests can enjoy the same lobster bisque as that served at the hotel. The restaurant can also be rented out for weddings (limited to one couple per day). It is also frequently covered in the media.

This restaurant offers a full range of orthodox western-style dishes including hamburger steaks, fried shrimp, and beef stew. The restaurant, which makes all of their sauces, dressings, mayonnaise, and breading by hand, puts much time and effort into its many dishes. Each of them has a gentle and nostalgic taste. It is easy to see why the restaurant, which is one of the most popular Western-style restaurants in Kyoto, has so many repeat customers.

This European restaurant opened in 1970 inside of a renovated Iberian-style house originally built in 1929 to house the art collection of the Japanese-style painter Hashimoto Kansetsu. The restaurant's freshly-boiled pasta and its homemade pizza have been beloved since its opening. Guests can enjoy these and other items in the restaurant's open garden, which is surrounded by flowers.

Marketed as the restaurant with one hundred years of western cuisine in Kyoto, the restaurant has preserved the founding motto of ‘We want many people to enjoy our delicious food at a reasonable price.” Known for their Toyotei special, the hamburger steak with a hot creamy baked potato slathered with butter is one of the most popular dishes, and their chilled ‘whole tomato salad’ is also popular.

This Italian restaurant is three minutes' walk from Sanjo station, on Kiyamachi-dori avenue. There are eight counter seats and eight table seats, creating a cozy interior. They serve Italian dishes made with plenty of seasonal ingredients. Their flagship dish is Carbonara, and is made with eggs from Yamada Farm, found in Kyoto's Ohara area. It is made to bring out the natural flavors of the eggs and pasta, without letting the rich cheese and fresh cream overpower. They offer several courses for different budgets based on an a la carte menu of appetizers, main dishes, and desserts.

Every time I visit Kyoto I eat here. The ever-changing menu is creative and never disappoints. The owner-chef trained in Italy to perfect his skills. What you get is authentic.

Kyoto Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
