Kyoto Kyoto-shi Nakagyo-ku Pontomachi Shijo Agaru 200m Kamogawa Side 1F
This jazz bar stands along the atmospheric cobbled streets of Pontocho Alley. The bar has always had a unique atmosphere since opening in this historic neighborhood some half century ago. The bar's mainstay is its vast selection of whiskeys, which includes bourbons, single malts, Irish whiskies, blended Scotches, and more. Guests can enjoy all the usual brands as well as number of rare and valuable ones. The bar holds concerts by professional musicians on weekends and holidays, allowing guests to enjoy live music up close.

Cosy and wonderfully designed, taking you back to the old days of bars and lounges. Crackly vinyl sounds of jazz and even some early Doris Day swoons. Great choice in whiskey selections.

This restaurant offers up delicious Mexican cuisine, which is a registered World Intangible Cultural Heritage. It focuses on delicious, healthy dishes using the highest quality avocados in modern arrangements. Their guacamole and chips offers a direct taste of the highest quality avocado, and are a big hit. They combine spiciness with the perfect level of acidity to create an addictive taste sensation. They also have a full drink menu with mojitos, pairing mint and tequila, drinkably sour El Diablo, and other cocktails.

Very tasty food. We enjoyed it a lot. Only criticism is that the meals were pretty small for the size of them. Also my coke which was $7 nz dollars was full of ice and not much coke, again, a bit...

The bar offers delicious drinks and a comfortable space to enjoy them. It does not have a drink menu. Instead, you just tell the bartender what sort of drinks you like and how you like them served. One of the bar's biggest attractions is its huge selection of wines and spirits, which includes single malt whiskeys, brandies, rums, champagnes, carefully selected vintage port wines, sherry wines, dessert wines, and more.

At Kizakura Sakaba guests can enjoy Kizakura sake and local craft beer in a charming brewery atmosphere with the diversity of drink options that you'd expect of a brewery-run shop. The building maintains the dynamic framing of the former main shop's warehouse as it's always been, and a beer keg awaits you at the storefront on the stone-paved approach to the entrance.

No photos allowed in the viewing room. We had a proper viewing in gekkeikan okura, so here we had a reasonable lunch. Buses of visitors coming here for lunches too. Seems to me theyre doing better...

Built on the site of the former Ikeda-ya Inn, where competing forces fought at the end of the Edo period, Ikeda-ya Hananomai provides customers with locally-sourced fresh vegetables from farms under contract and sashimi made from seafood acquired from all over Japan that is acclaimed for its freshness. It has a wide variety of multi-course prix fixe options as well as collaborative menus.

An izakaya pub at the Senbon Nakadachiuri intersection that's been serving food in line with the ideal of Delicious and Fresh that Matches the Season and the Day ever since their founding in 1934. As they head to the market to buy fresh ingredients on a daily basis their recommended specialties also change daily. The interior with its U-shaped counter and single plank table has a retro feel almost like you've stepped back into the Showa period. While calling themselves an izakaya pub their dishes are at the level of a traditional Japanese restaurant and sure to leave you completely satisfied. Their specialty menu item is Shinme, a unique warm-sake blend of six different types of Japanese sake.

This is a Japanese tavern hidden away on the back streets of Kiyamachi, a two minute walk from Kawaramachi Station on Hankyu Kyoto Line. It is open from 13:00 and visitors can enjoy a set menu for lunch. The cuisine is reasonably priced such as 130 yen for a fried pork skewer, and dishes of traditional Kyoto home style cooking and a la carte dishes beginning from 300 yen. The carefully prepared cuisine is served simply and guests can enjoy a special time here. The restaurant has a wonderful ‘at home' feel, so guests feel happy to come alone. You can also book the entire restaurant for a banquet, and enjoy the relaxed space fully.

"This wine bar is located at the intersection of Shinmachi Street and Takoyakushi Street a five-minute walk from Karasumaru Station. Floor-to-ceiling windows give the charming renovated traditional townhouse a sense of openness. Guests can enjoy carefully selected natural wines in the bar's relaxed atmosphere. ""Natural wine"" refers to wine that is made in a manner as close as possible to nature in order to fully bring out the power of nature. Natural wines are notable for the deep flavor provided by the power of the grapes. You can feel the owner's near-obsessive love for wine in the photos and comments that have been affixed to each of the many bottles of wine that line bar's wall."

This is a famous Kyoto course meal restaurant near Nanzenji Temple in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. From the Taisho period-built main building, one can look out over a wide about 4,000-square-meter Japanese garden largely designed by 7th generation heir Jihei Ogawa that is nationally designated as a place of scenic beauty. Not only is the taste wonderful, the Kyoto course meals offer a feast for the eyes, adding modern sensibilities to traditional craft to create artistic cuisine. The lunch limited Boiled Tofu Meal, consisting of famous Nanzenji Temple boiled tofu with a mini course meal, is a popular set.

This restaurant with a stylish interior remodeled from a 100-year-old town house has a unique concept that is neither a cafe, izakaya, nor dining bar. A variety of seating is made available in the town house-style wide open interior, from table seats to counter seats to individual rooms remodeled from storage which can be reserved for private use. They offer a variety of individual dishes and course menus made with vegetables ordered from a contract farm in Fushimi, Kyoto. The reasonably-priced lunches, cakes and sweets are also popular. The closest stations are Karasuma Station and Shijo Station.

"A three-minute walk from the ""Kitano Tenmangu-mae"" and ""Kamishichiken"" bus stops. This beer garden is located on the grounds of the Kamishichiken Kaburenjo Theater. The beer garden is open from early July through early September, excluding the Bon Festival period. There are no designated seating areas and seats are distributed throughout the garden to the balustrade and the parlor and building. Customers, however, cannot choose where they will sit and are instead seated by staff. Geisha and maiko who perform in the theater walk around the beer garden dressed in costume and hand out ""senjafuda"" business cards which are considered good luck charms. In addition to a required initial beer set, the garden serves a variety of beverages and a la carte foods."

This backstreet shot bar is located inside a renovated Kyo-machiya (traditional Kyoto-style townhouses) a short way from a downtown. Guests can enjoy a wide variety of drinks including wine, whiskey, bourbon, and cocktails. The relaxed and mature atmosphere is rather conducive to great conversation between friends, family, colleagues, and significant others.

Took us a while to find this cool little bar as google maps had us at the wrong side of the block. Was worth the wait though, great cocktails and reasonable prices. Would return.

An izakaya pub part of the Isoya Group that works with their personal Isozumi Farm and other contracted farms to deliver fresh Kyoto produce. Working with the concept of The Taste and Enjoyment of Kyoto Produce and Wine here you can taste the marriage of wine and Kyoto produce. The shop interior has a chic feel based around a black theme. The moment you open the door their impressive wine cellar jumps out at you. The dishes designed to pair with the wines, from fresh vegetables for simple wines to pickled goods for more vinegar wines, are also a feast for your eyes. Well known as a shop where you can relax and enjoy the casual atmosphere.

Kyoto Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
