Tendan is a yakiniku (broiled meat) restaurant located near Gion-Shijo Station along the Kamo River. Since its founding in 1965, it has been known to serve the same tare sauce, a fresh-tasting liquid with a base of beef bone broth that brings out the savory flavor of the meat. The popular loin uses only sirloin and rib loin, which go well with the tare and allow diners to enjoy the meaty flavors to the fullest extent. The restaurant also employs a sommelier, who selects the best wines to accompany meat dishes.

Excellent meal, definitely recommend. You could easily spend a fortune but it really isn’t necessary. The sirloin and ribloin were both superb, served together with assorted seafood, vegetables and...

This yakiniku Japanese barbecue restaurant is in Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto City. Working with the concept of eating out when the weather's good, guests dine on traditional yakiniku and Korean barbecue. They only serve large, thin cuts of sirloin and rib loin and their signature secret recipe dipping sauce has remained unchanged since their founding. They offer a lunchtime yakiniku menu as well.

Opened in 2016, this is the first women-oriented location of the Chinese food family restaurant chain Gyoza no Osho. Designed around the concept of Japanese casual, the restaurant has an elegant, café-like atmosphere. In addition to Gyoza no Osho's familiar fried gyoza, the shop offers a variety of signature options such as handmade boiled gyoza, Japanese-style fried rice with Kyoto pickles, and vegetables and pork steamed in a bamboo steamer with cheese. Diners love the restaurant's healthy, nutritious, and creative cuisine. Closest station: Karasuma Oike Station.

We stumbled into this casual restaurant/bar near our hotel. It is a local after work dinner place that serves draft beer, gyoza, meat and veggie dishes and best crispy fried noodles I have (similar...

Mimatsu Kaikan 1F, East Matsubara, Nishikiyacho, Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto, Kyoto
"A horumonyaki offal barbecue restaurant located on the first floor of the Mimatsu Kaikan a short distance west from the Matsubara Bridge along Matsubara-dori Street. The restaurant is designed to be a place you can casually drop by and enjoy delicious horumonyaki offal barbecue. The shio (salt-based sauce) horumon is particularly popular and not just locals but people from across the country and even the world come to this popular establishment to eat it. In addition to shio, the restaurant also offers shoyu yuzu tare (soy sauce yuzu citrus sauce) and miso tare (miso-based sauce) horumon dishes. The restaurant's specialty, however, is its ""Hoso Shio,"" small beef intestine in a salt-based sauce. In addition, the establishment's kimchi, made according to a traditional method, is quite popular and is available for takeout. Other recommendations include the wagyu beef sirloin yukhoe and red meat assortment. The restaurant also offers limited quantity and seasonal dishes."

This restaurant offers Kyoto-style barbecue, which is notable for being served with a broth-like dipping sauce called arai-dare. The recipe for this secret sauce hasn't changed since the restaurant opened in 1965. The sauce brings the grilled marinated meat down to the proper serving temperature while also further enhancing its savoriness. The two most popular items are the sirloin and ribloin. Cut into large thin slices, they pair incredibly well with the dipping sauce and fill your mouth with the sweetness of the meat. Conveniently for families with small children, the restaurant has a kid's room.

    18時くらいに入店。なんとか駐車場は停めることができました。 高くて、お会計をみて、子供がびっくりしていました。

Kyoto Prefecture Kyoto-shi Higashiyama-ku Shirakawa Musoin Chisenin Hashiganto Le west side 556
A venerable Cantonese restaurant which first opened in 1955 in Shijohorikawa and later moved to its current location along the Shirakawa River north of the Chion-in temple. The shop does not use the strongly flavored animal fats normally used in Cantonese food and adds a Kyoto twist to its dishes to create a cuisine that is gentler in taste. Making use of seasonal and rare ingredients from China and Taiwan, the restaurant is engaged in a constant search for new flavors. In addition to a la carte options, the restaurant also serves extravagant yet reasonable course menus. The restaurant’s thick, addictive annin tofu is a popular dessert which is also available for takeout. Closest station: Higashiyama Station.

Food was good, but the service was very rude, rude, rude. Not sure why. But I am sure there are many nice, friendly restaurants in Eastern Kyoto; this place should be avoided.

Kyoto Prefecture Kyoto City Nakagyo-ku Sanjyori Horikawa Western Bridge Nishinomachi 661 (within the Sanjo shopping street)
A popular Chinese restaurant opened by the proprietor, a Yokohama Chinatown local, who could not forget the flavor of his hometown xiaolongbao dumplings and invited a dim sum master from Shanghai to cook here. The skin of the shop’s piping hot, freshly prepared xiaolongbao is so thin, you can see the soup inside. In addition to offering standards such as Shanghai fried noodles and sweet-and-sour pork, the restaurant also offers a variety of unique items made with Kyoto ingredients. Situated inside a remodeled old miso shop, the unusual restaurant décor blends the essences of a Kyoto townhouse and Chinese restaurant. Closest stations: Shijo-Omiya Station and Nijojo-mae Station.

This Thai restaurant recognized by the Thai government is located on the Kamogawa River and is around a six-minute walk from Kawaramachi Station. Remodeled from an old Kyoto town house with a charming atmosphere, the Thai chef uses mainly local Kyoto foodstuffs to create authentic Thai cuisine. Popular options matched to the more mild taste preference of Japanese customers include Tom Yum Goong, Green Curry and the special lunch plate. In the summer there is a viewing platform set up from which one can enjoy a course dinner in a refreshing riverside atmosphere.

Price is ridiculous for size of meal! We spent more than we have anywhere in Japan for dinner and left hungry

Kyoto Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
