This popular bar is where you can taste the amazing flavor of tuna. In addition to their otoro and chutoro, there are countless recommended items including gunkan-maki (oval-shaped sushi wrapped with nori seaweed) with tuna and sea grapes, lightly broiled otoro with ponzu sauce, and their sashimi of the day. Making a reservation is recommended because it is a popular store.

Based on ratings here and elsewhere online, we wanted to give it a try. Long line, couldn’t make it the first time and were told the waiting list was 34 people that day and the day after. The...

Original cuisine and Okinawa cooking using ingredients from Kume Island are offered at this Japanese-style pub. Sample fish caught off the coast of the island are served in the sashimi platter. Japanese leek, purple yam, goya, and other ingredients figure in the “island vegetable tempura,” and there's also “Agu pork green onion and salt stir-fry” and several other menu options. You can hire someone to drive your vehicle for you anywhere on the island for 1,000 yen, which means you can enjoy all the awamori (millet brandy) you please. The establishment is located diagonally opposite from the Resort Hotel Kume Island.

I had dinner here last night and enjoyed myself immensely. The atmosphere was bubbly and the staff were sweet. The food is authentic Okinawan. Most dishes have sea grapes in them. The raffute is to...

Experience local Kume Island cuisine at this restaurant. The food is made using local ingredients, including fresh fish caught from the harbor every day. Recommended dishes include the “Kume Island butter-fried Japanese tiger prawn” and “Kume Island grilled soba.” A variety of Kume Island cooking is available for visitors to enjoy. The restaurant’s location along Eef Beach Street makes it easy to access.

Visited Umibozu for dinner on our 3rd night out of 4. After eating at Kameyoshi and Namiji, we thought it was on par. Each restaurant has its characteristics but so far Umibozu, Kameyoshi and Namiji...

    Okinawa Pref. Kunigamigunnakijinson Imadomari 3570
Located in Nakijin Village in Kunigami County, this Japanese-style pub will make you feel like you’ve been transported back to the Showa period. The retro atmosphere is made more vibrant by the patrons, many of whom are foreign and of all ages. The dishes are mainly Okinawan, such as seared Nakijin beef and papaya chanpuru (Okinawan stir fry, only available during certain periods). One surprising feature is the faucet at each table that dispenses awamori (millet brandy), which is available for use if you get the three-hour all-you-can-drink course. With private rooms and tatami seating also available, there’s something to suit everyone’s needs.

This is a restaurant in the middles of no-where and it serves really great food! Service was excellent and we order from a tablet that offers several languages including Chinese, English, Korean...

Izakaya-yaro Ryoji located on Kumoji, Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture is a long-established izakaya (a Japanese style pub) mainly for Okinawan cuisine. The glass entrance allows you to see the atmosphere of the inside easily and feel free to enter. You can enjoy Okinawan cuisine as well as unique fusion dishes made from selected fish and vegetables. It is popular not only among locals but also tourists. It is attractive as staff create an atmosphere that allows you to enjoy conversations with unfamiliar customers on the same table, watch food preparation in the kitchen from the counter seats as well as talking with the cheerful staff. This restaurant is where you can fully enjoy a good old Okinawan kominka (old house) built 60 years ago. Their black Agu pork shabu-shabu, with only five servings available each day, is excellent and very popular. They have an extensive side menu with limited quantities of sashimi made only when fresh fish are in stock, mozuku seaweed, sea grapes and Okinawa Shallots. They are many recommendations such as their “Mega Grill Neck Bacon” steak with Yanbaru pork, and smoked Yanbaru chicken.

We came to this restaurant keen to try some agu pork. It seems this restaurant is quite popular and I would suggest making a booking which you can do via their website. We put our name down and was...

Okinawa Areas

around-area-map

Let go of your image of a busy, ordered Japan and replace it with crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and relaxing folk music: You’ve arrived in Okinawa. A world away from the high intensity of Tokyo, Okinawans appear to live a laid-back beach life on this paradisiacal tropical island that lies in the middle of the East China Sea almost 1,000 kilometers south of mainland Japan’s most southern tip. Home to a spattering of islands, prepare yourself to discover underwater caves, star-shaped sand, and an island culture sometimes unrecognizable from mainland Japan.
