This gelato shop is located on a mountain where you can see the ocean around Ishigaki Island. It is very popular because of its lineup of tropical flavors using ingredients from the island that are also sold in the shop and fresh milk taken every morning. The view from the shop is amazing, and you can look out on seven islands from Nagura Bay in the morning. In addition, it is also possible to see the green flash phenomenon if you are lucky.

they had good gelato, not the best in my opinion but it was cheap! The view of the sea was pretty but its luck when it came to seeing a nice sun set.

The Yomitan store is the flagship store of Okashigoten, which makes confectionery using local Okinawan ingredients; the most famous Okashigoten product is their “Original Purple Sweet-Potato Sweets.” Located in Yomitan Village on land that used to be sugar-cane fields, the Yomitan store is easily recognized from the huge flower-covered hat at the entrance. Inside, the store has a wide range of confectionery products created at the company’s own factory, made using typically Okinawan ingredients such as purple sweet-potatoes and brown sugar; these can be purchased in quantities as small as a single sweet. Visitors can also view the production line at the factory next door. There is a restaurant and a café; the Hanagasa Café offers “Purple Sweet-Potato Sweets” fresh from the factory, which are not available anywhere else.

This is the second outlet of okashi we went to. This is on the way from cape zampa to Maeda , and quite popular as it’s the outlet on the central island. But our favourite is still the one in Onna...

This zenzai (red bean sweet) specialty shop is in Toguchi of Motobu Town in Kunigami County, across from the town market. Okinawa's zenzai is different from that of Honshu in that it generally refers to shaved ice combined with sweet boiled kidney beans and other toppings. “Aragaki Zenzai” only serves this type of zenzai, and since the store opened, it has enjoyed popularity for over 50 years.

We stumble upon this place (based on a Taiwanese travel blog post) after our lunch at Kishimoto Shokudo, only a 2 minute walk from the noodle place. This place is one of those really good Japanese...

At the end of New Paradise Street along the way to Kokusai-dori Street, you’ll come across this ball donut specialty shop. As the name implies, ball donuts are donuts in the shape of a ball, and they’re different from sata andagi (Okinawan deep-fried dough buns). Basic ball donuts are covered in sugar made from sugarcane, though varieties topped with lemon and natural sugar, salt and butter, and “Churakoibeni (a kind of sweet potato)” are also available, among others.

We loved this small cafe with its signature ball donuts in many flavors but the signature will be lemon flavor. Worth a try

Ippe coppe located in Urasoe, Okinawa Prefecture is a specialty bread shop using natural yeast. It is a lovely shop standing quietly in the foreigners’ residential district. Bread made only from selected ingredients and using only Japanese wheat is baked in limited quantities so it is recommended to get in early. The shop also sells rusks, scones, and in-house roasted coffee which goes well with the bread. During summer, the café Niwatori opens in the garden of the shop. You can enjoy a shaved ice covered with homemade syrup.

Visit early before its sold out! Was actually already on a full stomach, but the aroma got me, so got a bagel and mini baguette to go. Delicious and mouth-watering!

A 30-minute drive from Painushima Ishigaki Airport. Here you can enjoy a meal while watching a show comprised of Yaeyama music and dancing. Customers are greeted by two Okinawan lion dog statues and a small garden stand guard in front of the large white walled building. Theater seating is provided on the first floor while the second floor is occupied by banquet halls. There are five spacious banquet halls in all with table seating or more relaxed tatami mat seating. The full menu includes an array of a la carte dishes like Ishigaki beef steak and Okinawa style stews, plus course meals making use of Okinawa's unique culinary delights.

Okinawa Areas

around-area-map

Let go of your image of a busy, ordered Japan and replace it with crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and relaxing folk music: You’ve arrived in Okinawa. A world away from the high intensity of Tokyo, Okinawans appear to live a laid-back beach life on this paradisiacal tropical island that lies in the middle of the East China Sea almost 1,000 kilometers south of mainland Japan’s most southern tip. Home to a spattering of islands, prepare yourself to discover underwater caves, star-shaped sand, and an island culture sometimes unrecognizable from mainland Japan.
