    A strawberry farm located a short walk southwest of the Keiji Bypass getting off near the Uji River. For half the year from the end of December to around the end of May, visitors can enjoy strawberry picking here. The farm offers a 20 minute all-you-can-eat strawberry picking course; customers can bring their own sweet condensed milk for enjoying with the berries. Stroller and wheelchair users can also enter the farm. Note that strawberry picking is reservation only but visitors may be able to go strawberry picking without a reservation by checking the day of, and meanwhile a reservation may need to be changed due to poor weather. Although customers can not pick strawberries to take home, the farm has a shop where you can purchase strawberries.

    A tourist farm in Soraku County, Kyoto. They offer 40-minute all-you-can-eat greenhouse strawberry picking whatever the weather from winter to spring. Because they're cultivated on high platforms, visitors don't have to stoop to pick. The facility's barrier free design is accessible to those in wheelchairs or with strollers. Their Edamame Owner system lets customers grow black edamame beans from seeds and then take home the harvest months later. Strawberry picking requires a reservation. On-site parking is available.

    "This tourist facility located in a rich environment known as ""the Kitchen of Kyoto"" is a place where visitors can experience agriculture, sweets making classes, and other activities. The facility accepts groups of 5 to 50 people (reservation required). Sweets making classes are taught by craftsmen from the Kyo-gashi Fujiko, a shop of traditional Kyoto-style sweets. After the class, participants can enjoy Japanese sweets and matcha tea at the facility's teahouse."

They offer a variety of options and can serve anyone from ages five to 95. All make-up and fitting is done by a professional female artist and photography done by a top-notch photographer.

    An organization that handles sightseeing inquiries in the Kyoto and Ohara area including the Sanzen-in Temple and Jakko-in Temple. You can also try wearing the traditional Oharame clothing that women from Ohara wear while working. Oharame was the name for the local women who would travel to Kyoto balancing firewood atop their head to peddle in the city. The design is said to originate from a Heian Period outfit. Children's sizes are available allowing parents and children to experience this dress up opportunity together. Some shops offer discounts to tourists dressed in the Oharame outfit and so it's a frequent site to see women strolling around town dressed like this.

    This tourist farm is located in one of the leading grape-producing areas in Kyoto City. In addition to picking grapes, visitors can also enjoy seasonal activities such as picking strawberries or digging for sweet potatoes.

    A geisha house where you can try dressing as a maiko located in Kamishichiken, Kyoto's oldest geisha quarter. You can wear kimono, obi belts, and ornate kanzashi hairpins that were actually used by maiko and geisha. Groups are served individually so reservations are required. While your make-up is done and your getting dressed you can learn things about the world of the geisha that aren't commonly known, from the differences between geisha and maiko to the etiquette of the geisha quarter. They also run the hidden Kyomachiya BAR out of a refurbished teahouse where you can enjoy a drink at the sunken counter or in a tatami room.

    This picture studio is run by a venerable kimono shop with 100 years of history behind it. They have authentic maiko and geiko kimonos made with Kyo-yuzen dyed brocade made by hand by traditional craftsmen. All of the makeup and dressing specialists on staff are professionals with experience in film and theater. Of course, you can get pictures taken in their atmospheric tatami-floor studio, and they also offer walks through Kyoto with a professional photographer in tow. They have a large variety of traditional Japanese and Western styles for all kinds of events, like children's kimonos for shrine visits and the Shichi-Go-San festival, wedding dresses and tuxedos, and more.

    This kimono rental shop one minute's walk from Inari Station, marked out by the Maiko sign. It's perfectly located, right in front of Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine, and offers an authentic Maiko experience. All you need to bring is your own makeup to reapply after your experience is over. The experience includes authentic Japanese makeup as used by maiko and geiko, such as hair pomade, face-white, water-soluble lipstick, and more. Once you put on the Kimono and hair decorations of your choice, you can have your portrait taken in the studio or go out for a Kyoto walk. They also offer rentals of light kimonos, yukata robes, and Shinsengumi outfits.

    This strawberry farm is popular with all ages because of its elevated cultivation container that allow visitors to enjoy picking strawberries without having to crouch. Because the farm's Akihime strawberries are grown in green houses, you can enjoy picking them even on rainy days. The strawberry picking season runs from early January to mid-May each year.

    This grape arbor lets you pick and eat all you want of their organically grown, large, sweet Muscat Berry A grapes. Since they're grown in a large greenhouse, you can pick even on rainy days. You can also bring in your own lunches to eat on the grounds. Grape picking is open from September 1 through 20.

    This agricultural recreation spot is filled with natural blessings and was opened to help show the connection between food and farming. The area has a direct view of Wakasa port and Kanmuri island, and is embraced by greenery. On the grounds there is an agricultural restaurant, sweets shop, vegetable gardens, and direct sales shops. The Fururu Market sits at the center of the park, and is jam packed with fresh-harvested produce and agricultural products from local farmers. The weekends are especially crowded with shoppers. In addition to seasonal vegetables, there activities intended to spread awareness of the connections between farm and food. In collaboration with the Japan Farm Village Network 21, farmers from other regions also come to sell their goods, including things that can only be found here.

    The Kyo-Yuzen Workshop is a hands-on experience facility run by a veteran kyo-yuzen dyeing shop. In the charming ambience of an old merchant's house, you can make a one-of-a-kind item of your choice, mixing the colors and dyeing the patterns to your liking. Reservations need to be made at least three days in advance. Any closer to the day you need to call to confirm availability.

    A tourist farm located in Ide Town, Tsuzuki County, Kyoto Prefecture. Visitors can experience harvesting various vegetables and fruits depending on the season, such as digging bamboo shoots, digging sweet potatoes, picking fruits, and gathering chestnuts, as well as enjoying various outdoor leisure activities such as hiking and barbecues, which are popular among wide range of generations, especially families. There is a stream running through the farm, where visitors can play in the water and also watch fireflies during the summer.

    Fruits Oukoku Yasaka, located in the city of Kyotango in Kyoto Prefecture, is a fruit orchard open to the public from August to November. Visitors make reservations to come and pick peaches, grapes, pears, and other fruit in season. Processed fruit products, such as gelato or juice, are also sold. This is a popular spot for local families, and tourists enjoy it, too.
  • Registered National Cultural Asset Nishijin Tondaya

    This workshop facility is in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City. Built in 1885, it's a Kyoto merchant townhouse that once housed the kimono wholesaler Tondaya. It was designated as a national Registered Tangible Cultural Properties in 1999. It's a great venue for learning about the traditional customs of Kyoto and having cultural experiences like dressing up kimonos and serving tea. They also offer tours where they show you around inside the townhouse.

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
