    Board a pleasure cruise traveling Lake Ashi in Hakone Town, Ashigarashimo County, Kanagawa Prefecture. There’s a scheduled route which connects the four harbors of Hakone Sekisho-ato Port, Motohakone Port, Hakone-en Port, and Kojiri Port, as well as a round trip routes which leave from and return to each of the four. The round trip routes take anywhere from 30 to 70 minutes depending on the harbor. A 70 minute tour route circling Lake Ashi departs only from Kojiri Port. Cruise-goers can enjoy traveling across the lake’s waters while gazing at the mountains of Hakone and Mt. Fuji. Together with a trip on the Hakone Pirate Ship, which also sets sail on Lake Ashi, taking one of these pleasure cruises is a staple of any visit to Hakone.

    This is an aerial lift which connects all the stations from Sounzan to Owakudani, Ubako and Togendai and takes about 25 minutes. The stations of Sounzan and Togendai are located at an elevation of over 700 meters above sea level. Owakudani Station also reaches an altitude of 1,044 meters above sea level, so you can enjoy a walk in the sky to see the beautiful Mt. Fuji, the Owakudani sulfur fields and the large panoramic picturesque scenery looking out over of Lake Ashi. If it is a clear day, Tokyo Skytree may also be visible.

Modeled after a European sailing vessel from the 17th to the 18th centuries, the cruise’s ships are filled with lighthearted touches like figures of the ship’s pirate “crew” scattered about the deck.     Hakone Komagatake Ropeway is a 1,783-meter-long funitel ropeway which starts at Hakone-en by the banks of Lake Ashinoko and terminates at the summit of Mt. Komagatake; a one-way journey takes seven minutes. After boarding at Hakone-en Station in Hakone-en, passengers can view the Hakone area spread out below them like a “miniature garden” with Lake Ashinoko at its center. To the northwest magnificent Mt. Fuji can be seen, while further off there is a spectacular panoramic view of the coastline from Suruga Bay to the “Izu Seven” islands forming part of the Izu Islands, the Shonan Coast, and as far as the Boso Peninsula. Return tickets cost 1,080 yen for adults, 540 yen for children.
  • Hakone Tozan Cable Car

    Located in Hakone Town, Ashigarashimo County, Kanagawa Prefecture and running between Gora Station and Sounzan Station is Hakone Tozan Cable Car, the oldest cable car in the Kanto region. Departing every 15 minutes, the cable cars take approximately 10 minutes to cover the 214 meter height passing six stations. You can find lots of sights such as Hakone Gora Park and hot spring resorts along the cable car route. Information about the sights is also broadcast in the cable cars. Looking out through the large windows the Gora cityscape gets better and better as the car climbs up the hill from where you can enjoy in full the four seasons of Hakone. The last stop at Sounzan Station is where you can change for the Hakone Ropeway.

    Hakone Tozan Train is a mountain railway which starts from Odawara Station at an altitude of 14 meters and runs to Gora Station at an altitude of 541 meters via Hakone-Yumoto Station. It’s the perfect way to take in the Hakone sights with hot spring resorts and museums dotted about along the railway. There are many sharp turns and steep slopes, and the train is well-known for its switchbacks which happen at Deyama Signal Station, Ohiradai Station and Upper Ohiradai Signal Station. The driver and the conductor each walk to the other end of the train and the train switches into reverse to continue its journey. The hydrangeas along the railway line are in full bloom each year around the middle of June and it’s during this period that the train is nicknamed the Hydrangea Train.

Guests can participate without needing a reservation and since the time needed ranges from 15 minutes to 90 minutes, it is easy to stop by and visit during a drive or while sightseeing. There is also a gallery that sells works made by young artists and craft miscellaneous goods.

    This strawberry farm is located in Nakagouchi, Ebina City. From January to June, you can enjoy strawberry-picking (based on order of arrival) on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Elevated cultivation is employed, so you can grab strawberries while standing, and the aisles are wide enough for easy access by children or those in wheelchairs. There is a wholesaler, a kids space, a square, and even a table for diaper-changing.

    いちご狩りと言うと、栃木県や静岡県が有名ですが、近所と言うのがこちらの利点です。しかし、朝6時には並んでいないと整理券は無くなります。(5時に出発したら、栃木でも静岡でも、のんびり行っても着けますね) 金額も、ちょっと高額ですが、高速代が浮いたと思えば、まぁ納得です。 しゃがまなくて良い栽培方法の分も付加価値が高いんだと思います。

    This strawberry farm is located in 2-Chome, Fueda, Kamakura City. From mid-December to early May, the farm is open on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, when you can enjoy strawberry-picking without a reservation (based on arrival order). It is the only spot in Kamakura where you can experience strawberry-picking.

    This sightseeing boat plies the sea around Misaki and Jogashima Island in Miura. Misakiguchi Station on the Keihin Kyuko Line is nearby where the boat docks at Urari Marche where you can enjoy fish and the sea. The bottom of the boat is submerged deep enough to make it feel like you're taking a walk in the ocean. The boat has a capacity of 60 people and during the 40-minute cruise you can watch fish swimming in their natural habitat from an observation room that resembles a space craft. The ocean comes alive with fish once you arrive at a certain point during the tour. From the deck you can also see Jogashima Ohashi Bridge, and Hanagure pier where large tuna ships dock. There are about 8 departures a day. Discount plans are available for shopping at Urari Marche.
  • Manazuru Peninsula Tour Boat

    This sightseeing boat plies the waters around Manazaru Peninsula. You can reach it by taking a bus from JR Manazuru Station, getting off at the Uoichibamae stop and walking one minute. Starting from the Uozayoko landing at Manazuru Port making a U-turn at Mitsuishioki and returning to the Manazuru Port, the round trip takes about 30 minutes. The boat can accommodate 82 people and the panoramic windows help provide an exhilarating experience. The Mitsuishi Rocks at the tip of the peninsula where the Mitsuishi Coast juts into Sagami Bay create some fantastic scenery. Take a commemorative photo with them in the background to make your trip to the Manazaru Peninsula even more special.

    This two-story wooden workshop facility is in Tahara Furusato Park in the eastern part of Hadano City. It has a farm stand, a soba restaurant called Shinonome, a soba making workshop, and a factory for making pickled vegetables. A visit here provides the chance to enjoy ni-hachi soba noodles made with an 80/20 buckwheat flour/wheat flour mix that is fresh ground, fresh made, and fresh boiled. They make their noodles with spring water from the foot of Tanzawa mountains, that's been designated as one of the top 100 Famous Water. The instruction at their soba noodle making workshops is easy to follow, making it great for beginners. You can reach the facility by taking a bus from the Odakyu Line's Hadano Station to the Nakaniwa stop and walking about three minutes.
  • Lake Sagami Excursion Boat New Swan Maru

    This pleasure cruise departs from the banks of Sagami Lake Park year-round. It's about an eight-minute walk from Sagamiko Station on the JR Chuo Line in Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. The Swan Maru does a 25-minute tour of Lake Sagami. It began operating in 1984 as the sister ship of the first swan shaped pleasure boat in Japan. Whatever the season you can relax onboard and take in Sagami Lake's surroundings. They rent swan shaped peddle boats, rowboats, and fishing boats too. They'll also let you borrow blankets and other items to keep you warm if needed, free of charge.
  • Omote-tanzawa Kenmin no Mori

    A nature park situated on a slope next to Okura Ridge, a mountain path leading up Mt. To. The park has a grass lawn and arbor which visitors can use to take a break; the park is also a great and easily accessible destination for a picnic or forest walk. The park is divided into five areas - the Kashiwa no Mori, Mizuki no Mori, Shide no Mori, Aburachan no Mori, and Sasachi no Mori. Each area is outfitted with walking paths and has beautiful fresh verdure in spring and fall foliage in autumn for visitors to take in. There's also a parking area about three kilometers away, making it easy to come here by car.

    This is a sea transportation service connecting the main Yokohama tourism sites, which are the East exit of the Yokohama Station, the Pukari Sanbashi of Minatomirai 21, the Pier Akarenga and the Yamashita Park. Although there is some layover time between the Yokohama Station - Akarenga, and the Yamashita Park - Minatomirai 21 routes, but all other sites can be visited without delays. The routes vary in length from five minutes to 20 minutes. The sight from the wide windows set low to the sea allow for easy viewing. Passengers may also enjoy a fuller cruise experience from the aft deck. Passengers enjoy taking photos at various sites using the different scenes as a backdrop. The 60-minute night illumination cruise on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays is highly recommended.

    Get off at the Keio Daigaku bus stop, and the orchard will be about a 10-minute walk away. They harvest and sell grapes, pears, persimmons, sweet potatoes and more, all grown with their own 100% organic compost. Their all-weather Grape House facility hosts weddings, flea markets, and barbecues, supplying everything you need for a cook-out. There are also fee-based activities available year-round like mochi rice pounding and horse riding. You can try riding their firewood powered cart, too.

    This strawberry farm is located about a 10-minute walk from the Miyata bus stop of the Keikyu Bus. Although sweetened condensed milk is offered with all the strawberries one can eat in 30 minutes, these carefully cultivated strawberries are plenty juicy without any milk. The five varieties of Tochiotome, Yayoihime, Benihoppe, Oish-C-beri, and Yotsuboshi are grown here. The farm's rich strawberry soft ice cream, that has a slightly different flavor every day, depending on the variety of strawberry used, is sold on the premises as well as handmade strawberry jam, and beautiful vegetables cultivated with organic fertilizer.

Kanagawa Areas


Kanagawa prefecture acts as an extension of the Tokyo metropolis that spills over into coastal towns, most notably Yokohama city, heavily populated and known for its Chinatown and seaside attractions. Just the right distance for a day trip out of Tokyo, Kanagawa is home to some of Tokyo’s most accessible beaches, including around Kamakura, best known for its Big Buddha. Visitors can also travel a little farther afield for a weekend at Hakone onsen town.
