    A sightseeing boat service which operates from the Honenbashi Bridge Boat Dock in Kitanosho-cho, Omihachiman City. Tour-goers get in a hand-paddled boat and slowly travel the canals of Omihachiman. No reservations are required if you don’t mind sharing a boat with others, but you can also reserve your own private boat; private boat riders can choose to enjoy a “Suigo Bento” box lunch or Omi beef sukiyaki during their tour (advance reservation required).

    A commercial complex dedicated to Shigaraki ware situated along Prefectural Route 16 in Maki Shigaraki-cho, Koka City. The facility displays and sells tableware, flower vases, and other Shigaraki ware pieces and also offers ceramics classes. In addition, there’s a climbing kiln, restaurant, gift shop, and shop which sells Asamiya tea. The symbol of the facility, the “Largest Tanuki Statue in Japan,” is a popular photo spot.

    GWの京都北部でのキャンプ場で教えてもらい 大阪への帰り道によりました。琵琶湖西岸の山の中 の朽木にある温泉。眺めの良い露天風呂もあっていいお湯でした。屋内プールも有って地元住民の健康施設のようです。天狗のオブジェが ありました。 建物内に 黒崎彰氏の版画がかざってありました。

    A cable car which travels between Cable Enryakuji Station and Cable Sakamoto Station in Sakamoto Honmachi, Otsu City. The cable line was constructed in 1927 and boasts the longest length of any cable car line in Japan, spanning 2,025 meters. A one-way trip takes 11 minutes. The Cable Sakamoto Station and Cable Enryakuji Station buildings have been preserved in the same state they appeared in when first built and are designated National Important Cultural Properties.

    永源寺ダムを超えてしばらく池田牧場の看板がある所を山手に上がって行くとあるキャンプ場です。木立の中のキャンプ場でバーベキュー広場やバンガロー、遊具も揃っています。少し奥に車で走ると道の駅があるのでそちらで地元食材も買えますし、清流が癒されます。

    A pleasure cruise ship which operates out of Otsu Port in Hamaotsu, Otsu City. The cruise began operating in 1982. The ship is modeled after an American Mississippi riverboat; inside, touches like chandeliers and luxurious carpets engender an atmosphere that is out of the ordinary. The ship has two restaurants, a bar, VIP room, and sky deck offering sweeping views of Lake Biwa. The ship offers three types of cruises as well as seasonal event cruises. The ship can also be rented out and using for weddings and other special events.

Visitors to Shiga prefecture are almost always hopping east across the prefectural border from Kyoto, and they are almost certainly Lake Biwa-bound. Covering an area of 670 square kilometers, Lake Biwa makes up the bulk of Shiga prefecture, with beautiful lakeside paths that offer myriad walking and cycling opportunities, connecting a string of museums, shrines, and picturesque views that finally lead you to Hikone Castle on the eastern side of the lake.
