  • Shoboku Pottery Village Workshop

    A 10-minute drive from the Tsuyama Interchange on the Chugoku Expressway. This workshop features the largest ascending kiln in the northern region of the prefecture. The workshop is located in the hills in northern Tsuyama City, an area rich is earth perfect for pottery in what was known as the Koudaike Kiln during the middle ages. With the guidance of skilled Bizen-ware potter and instructor Hanaoka and using the ascending kiln and electric kilns you'll be able to enjoy a full-fledged pottery experience. The ascending kiln performs a traditional burning of Japanese red pine twice per year and is also used to fire works made during the pottery courses. After your works are fired you can either pick them up or have them delivered for a fee.

    A 30-minute drive from the Innosho Interchange on the Chugoku Expressway. At this rural accommodation, hands-on experience, and training facility you can enjoy the scenery of the four seasons as you pass the time away in a classic style house. There are three separate houses, each equipped with Washlet toilets, as well as facilities such as the workshop equipped Koshinkan hall that can be used for a multitude of purposes including lodging, dining, hands-on manufacturing, learning, and training. Also, you can learn how to make soba noodles, yam cake, sasa-mochi, and tofu under the careful lead of veteran chefs from the local women's club. Enjoy hand-made cuisine made with local season ingredients.

    A five-minute drive from JR Imbe Station. Come experience an authentic electric potter's wheel at this Bizen-ware workshop situated on a vast plot surrounded by nature. You can freely use any of the pottery tools available to fully enjoy your creation from the first throw of clay to the complete final creation. You can also stay in the log house as you slowly and carefully see your project through to completion. Their Small Kiln Firing Course takes around one hour and has you make a piece using hand throwing and the electric potter's wheel before it's fired in a wood burning kiln. The final piece can be picked up from the front desk about two months later or you can have it mailed to you.

    A 10-minute drive from the Tsurumi Interchange on the Okayama Blue Line. At this tourism farm you can enjoy picking fruits including peaches, grapes, and mikan oranges. They create their own soil blend and carefully grow their fruits organically with a minimum of agricultural chemicals. When the peaches are in season from early July to early August you can enjoy tasty fresh peaches right of the tree with their slogan of Peaches Straight from the Tree to your Mouth! Grape varieties include Pione and Aki-Queen grapes and are available from late August to mid-October and the mikan oranges are available from mid-October to December. Reservations are required for all fruit picking.
  • Hinase Islands Mikan Picking (Kakui Island, Kashira Island, and Ko Island)

    Come experience mikan orange picking in eight orchards across three islands of the Hinase archipelago in the Seto Inland Sea, Kakuijima Island, Kashirajima Island, and Koujima Island. They offer two different options, the Seto Inland Cruise in which you travel via ship and the Easy Mikan Picking Course where you travel between orchards in your own vehicle. The cruise only operates on Sundays and holidays and uses a private ship just for those on the orange picking tour. Either option will take you to beautiful locales and from mid-October to early December you can enjoy the scenery and the taste of Hinase mikan oranges carefully grown with organic fertilizers.

    宿ではありますが、食事の利用もできます。 敷地内にはエミューの檻があり、以前に脱走騒ぎもありましたが、基本的には大人しくて可愛い大型の鳥です。 これを見て、少し坂を下りて片上湾の景色を見るだけだとしても、十分にこの宿の利用価値があります。

    “自然休養村”であることを知らずに、「カルスト台地にある古民家」を求めてやってきました。クルマは草間市民センターに停めて、ズッと歩きました。ちょうど菜の花が咲き乱れ、とても美しい光景を見せてくれました。大型の入母屋造りの三角屋根があちこちに目に付き、さらに素朴な土壁や白壁の蔵が点在し、すがすがしい空気がとてもおいしく感じたのです。

    大阪から車で行きました。 予約が必要ないので、到着時間を気にせず向かうことができました。 桃は食べ放題で甘く美味しかった。 桃をあんなに食べたのは初体験! 行く前の調べより少し値上がりしていたが、それでもとてもリーズナブルで大満足。

Overshadowed by Hiroshima to the west and the Kansai region to the east, Okayama is an easy spot to miss but a nature-rich gem where the Seto Inland Sea laps at its toes and peach and grape farms complete its interior. One of Japan’s Three Great Gardens, Koraku-en in Okayama city is well worth a visit before progressing to Kurashiki, where preserved wooden Edo buildings line the picturesque canal.
