  • Yanagawa Boat Tour
    Travel / Tourism
    Yanagawa-shi, Fukuoka prefecture
A leisurely ride in a shallow donkobune boat down a canal passing through Yanagawa, a city renowned for the beauty of its waterways. Dug as part of the construction of Yanagawa Castle, the canal twists its way through sluice gates and under bridges, revealing the elegant scenery of a former castle town during its one hour and 10-minute journey. One of the tour’s key attractions is that it provides riders with the chance to enjoy a slightly different side of Japan, such as the red brick warehouses and white namako-kabe tile and plaster walls in the late Meiji period preservation district. The stirring songs and performance provided by the boat pilot are also highlights. Nishitetsu Yanagawa Station is the closest station to the boarding dock.

The farm uses this system to increase the quality and yield of its strawberry crop by keeping the plants healthy and disease-free. In addition, keeping the fruit away from soil means that visitors can enjoy picking strawberries without getting their hands or clothes dirty. The farm is also wheelchair accessible thanks to its wide aisles. Guests can enjoy 12 varieties of strawberry including Amao and Benihoppe.

This tourist fruit farm is located about a 20-minute drive from Asakura Interchange. Yamandon is a corruption of the place name Yamanodo in the local Ukiha dialect. Guests can enjoy picking and eating seasonal fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, grapes, pears, and persimmons all year long. At the farm's cafe Mugoyoka, guests can enjoy cakes or its lunch of the week. The cafe offers a selection of no fewer than 30 cakes made with plenty of seasonal fruit at any given time. We recommend enjoying them with the cafe's blended coffee, which is made with mineral spring water.
