    Yukishio Saltworks on Miyako Island produces “snow salt” (salt in powder form) using salty groundwater pumped up from underground. Display panels explain the process of making the salt. There is a shop selling “snow salt” and products made using “snow salt.” The shop offers a number of unique products that can only be purchased here; the “Snow Salt Soft Ice-cream,” which is covered with “snow salt” in a variety of different flavors, is particularly popular.

    This diving shop is in the Imgya Marine Garden, located in an inlet as beautiful as a miniature garden. You can enjoy snorkeling and diving here. The instructors go out of their way to offer helpful pointers, making it beginner-friendly as well. The optional tours, such as a limestone cave tour and coconut crab and firefly tour geared toward kids, are popular as well. After you finish snorkeling or diving, you can relax on the terrace and enjoy a barbecue and island cuisine.

    This is the second airport in the Miyako area following Miyako Airport, and opened on March 30, 2019. It is also known as having the first airport terminal in the country to use large cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels bonded together so that their direction is orthogonal to each other as structural material for the roof. Expectations are rising that it will be a place where you can enjoy the feeling of being at a resort from the airport.

    This distillery is located in a residential area just east of Sawada no Hama Beach and Heiseinomori Park about a 15-minute walk from Sarahama Fishing Port. Established in 1945, the venerable distillery is best known for producing smooth tasting awamori that fills the mouth with a pronounced sweetness. Their awamori is made with groundwater with a high content of minerals derived from coral reefs. The distillery's offerings include Honen, their hallmark brand, which was given this name in the hope of a bountiful harvest, as well as their mildly-flavored Yura, which was created to suit the tastes of women and people from outside of the prefecture who haven't acquired a taste for awamori. Visitors with a reservation can tour part of the distillery.

    This pottery is located in a quiet environment surrounded by fields and trees east of Yonaha Bay about a 10-minute drive from Miyako Airport. It makes and sells Tsuboya ware, a traditional style of pottery dating back three centuries to the time of the Ryukyu Kingdom. Tsuboya ware, which was strongly influenced by Chinese pottery, often features patterns with fish or tree peonies. Fish in particular connote the prosperity of descendants because of the way they lay so many eggs at once. They also symbolize wealth and good fortune. In addition to plates, glasses, and other vessels, the pottery also sells shisa statues. The potter who runs the establishment is a certified Okinawa Prefecture Craftsman.

    This noted souvenir shop and design firm is located on Shimozato-dori Street south of the intersection between Ichiba-dori Street and Shimozato-dori Street. The company has been frequently covered in newspapers, magazines, and other media. They sell compact, affordable, and practical souvenirs featuring original designs. Their mainstay is hand towels, drawstring purses, t-shirts, and other items featuring simple designs inspired by local specialties of Miyako Island such as bitter melon and sugar cane. They also provide design services. Although the company sells its products wholesale to many shops across the island, they offer a number of exclusive products at their own store.

    This souvenir shop is located northeast of Kamamamine Park just north of the Shimozato (Kita) intersection. It offers a lineup of women's fashion items including shirts, skirts, parasols, and drawstring purses each carefully selected by the proprietor. It is also the only place on Miyako Island where you can try your hand at bingata dyeing, a traditional handicraft of Okinawa (reservation required). People age three and above can enjoy creating their own original items.

    This storied woodcraft shop established in 1961 is located on a side street off of Gerhard Schroder Strasse a short drive from Miyako Airport. It is the only woodcraft manufacturer on Miyako Island that does every process from cutting the local timber to selling the final product entirely in-house. They offer a wide variety of items ranging from furniture such as timber slab tables and household accessories such as chopsticks and dinner plates. The shop also makes sanshin, the Okinawan three-string guitar that is precursor of the Japanese shamisen. They use a proprietary technique to cover the bodies of the instruments with snakeskin. The shop even holds free sanshin classes that even beginners who don't own a sanshin can attend.

    This pottery shop is located a short distance northeast of the Sodeyama Iriguchi intersection about a seven-minute drive from Miyako Airport. It has continued to produce pottery using the traditional techniques of Nanban ware, local clay, and local glaze since opening in 1984. Its works are notable for their subdued yet deep coloring. Customers can have their names written on mugs and other items as a souvenir. It also sells a wide variety of shisa ornaments and even offers pottery lessons in which participants can try making their very own shisa ornament.

    This confectionary shop is located behind the Harimizu Utaki sacred site just around the corner one block northeast of the Hirarako intersection. They make and sell original cakes and about 40 varieties of sweets. Their flagship product is their banana cakes, which are free of preservatives, artificial colors, and perfumes. The shop, which has been in business for more than 40 years, underwent a renovation in order to provide even better-tasting products. Their Miyakojima Sticks, which perfectly blend the flavors of brown sugar, banana, and purple yam, are also popular. The shop has a cafe space where it serves the cakes, ice cream, juice, and more.

    宮古島市の中心地にあるお土産店です。宮古島は、これから発展を遂げる観光地なので大規模なお土産店が少ないです。琉球民芸みやげ品みやこ屋は、お土産店として有難い存在です。あの有名な「宮古島まもる君」グッズを始めとして、宮古島や沖縄本島のお土産品がお手軽に入手できます。 但し、泡盛に関しては市内のスーパー等で購入した方がお安いと思います。
