- Kyoto Kyoutoshi Sakyou-ku Nanzenji Front of the gate
- The Nanzen-ji Zen Temple is the head temple of Rinzai Buddhism. This restaurant located in front of the temple serves traditional Kyoto kaiseki course cuisine such as its famed boiled tofu. Diners can enjoy seasonal kaiseki dishes and boiled tofu while enjoying the view of the restaurant’s garden. After your meal, why not take a stroll in the garden of the Junsei Shoin, a registered Tangible Cultural Property originally built as a space for the study of medicine in the Edo period.

I really dont like writing this, but this restaurant was such a disappointment. Just not the care and quality you come to expect in Japan. The tofu was nice, but Bream was very overcooked and...

- The shop known as the oldest existing yudofu (boiled tofu) store in existence is a ten minute walk from Keage Subway Station, and has been introduced on television and in newspapers. Visitors can relax leisurely on the traditional Japanese seats on the floor and look out on the Japanese garden showing a different beauty with every season. The only tofu dish is yudofu. The homemade tofu using domestic soybean is mellow, rich with a deep taste of soy. Black sesame flavored tofu, peppered skewers of vegetable, and dishes of fried pumpkin and yuba (dried bean curds) are also available.
-
I wanted to have a really good yudofu so I decided to try this traditional restaurant. It was a weekday and I didnt need to queue. I even had a table by the window. Negative point was the dishes. It...

- Located near Honen-in Temple along the Philosopher's Path, one of the top 100 roads in Japan, this popular yudofu restaurant has been in business for 40 years and offers a variety of Kyoto-style dishes, including specially selected yudofu with a smooth texture and rich flavor, handmade sesame tofu, and other dishes that make full use of the flavors of the ingredients.

This is my second visit with a long gap between. So stylish, so calm and so tasty. Everything is perfectly fresh. The atmosphere floats tourist hub-bub. Staff are helpful but unfussy. Tofu hot, tofu...

- This handmade rice ball shop in a residential area of Jodoji Temple in Sakyo Ward is a few minutes on foot from Kinrin Shako Mae bus stop. The charming exterior and a counter seat like a sushi shop compliments the simplicity of the rice balls they serve. The rice balls are each made freshly after taking your order using rice cooked in a special iron traditional style rice cooking pot. The popular rice balls are delicious served hot as well as cold. Guests can enjoy their rice balls with a variety of side dishes in the restaurant. There are many fillings to choose from and if you take out three or more rice balls they will be wrapped in bamboo skin.

Kyoto Areas
Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
