- Opened by the Emperor’s chef Shiro Miyagawa in 1926, this Toriten chicken shop emerged in the early days of the Showa period as a place for chicken kamaboko tempura. Nowadays it is famous for its food loved dearly by those of Oita Prefecture. One can enjoy various tastes by adding Oita Prefecture kabosu or vinegar soy sauce and mustard. The standard menu’s “Honke Toriten Teishoku” is satisfyingly voluminous. From Beppu Station take the Kamenoi bus towards APU, alight at Funakouji, and walk five minutes.

Despite focusing on being a mass-market yakiniku restaurant, Shunkoen is still selective about the quality of its meats and has long been a beloved local favorite. Famous for its specialty Beppu reimen (cold noodles), a local Beppu specialty, the springy noodles and Japanese-style broth of this delicious gem goes great with kimchi. お肉はそれなりのお値段ですし、そこそこ美味しかったです。 こちらは、冷麺発祥のお店として有名なのですが、正直冷麺は全然美味しいと思いませんでした。 スープが薄くて、なんのうまみも感じられず、何故これが美味しいとうたっているのか、理解できかねました。 私たちの味覚がおかしいのかな？？とにかく薄かったです。
