This bakery on the Oishi-kogen Highland is only open on Saturdays and Sundays. Housed in a log cabin, there's a great view of the surrounding woodland from the terrace seating. It's a lovely way to enjoy the charms of nature with birdsong and the cool breeze passing through the valley. All of their products are additive-free. Their mountain shaped bread and their bacon knot filled with cream cheese and mustard get good reviews. They also serve juice and light fare like pizza and spaghetti, as well as items only available for a limited time.

This brewery is located a five-minute walk from Nishi-Gobo Station on the Kishu Railway. Best known for its famous Mitsuboshi Soy Sauce, it is the oldest extant brewery in Wakayama Prefecture, which is believed to be one of the places where soy sauce was first produced in Japan. The brewery continues to make its soy sauce by hand the traditional way using carefully-selected domestic ingredients without the use of any preservatives or artificial additives. Mitsuboshi Soy Sauce is a dark soy sauce with a sweetness and savoriness that can only come from domestic soybeans, a sharp flavor, and a clean aftertaste. Their popular Kinzanji Miso has little bits of gourd, eggplant, red shisho leaves, ginger, and other fresh local summer vegetables blended into the paste.

This venerable miso paste manufacturer is located a five-minute drive from Gakumon Station on the Kishu Railway. Established in 1808, the company makes and sells the Kishu Kinzanji Miso brand of handcrafted additive-free miso. Kinzanji Miso is made using traditional methods by inoculating domestic rice, barley, and soybeans with Aspergillus oryzae mold to create a koji fermentation starter, adding gourd, eggplant, ginger, and shiso leaf, and then fermenting the mixture with salt and sugar. The all-natural, artificial flavoring and additive-free miso makes it an excellent topping for a bowl of rice or ochazuke (tea and rice soup). We also recommend their barley miso, which combines the mild sweetness produced by the koji with the rich aroma of barley, as well as their white miso, which has a light and sweet flavor.

Producers sell not only their best fresh vegetables but also various citrus fruits throughout the year in this farmers' and fishers' market whose motto is ""Fresh, Reliable, Cheap."" Especially popular is the Fish Products Section, where customers can obtain fresh fish sent directly from the fishers who caught them, as well as homemade cakes sweets, and other processed foods made by local producers. On the second floor is the casual Yottette Cafe, along with a section that sells dried plums, plum wine, and other products derived from plums. Located about a ten-minute drive from the Nanki Tanabe Interchange on the Hanwa Expressway via National Route 42, near the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Route, this is a venerable shop, founded in 1865, that sells Kamaboko (ready-to-eat processed seafood maintaining the taste and amount of protein of the fish). The shop's methods for making Kamaboko have remained unchanged since its founding, and each day begins with cutting fish into three slices by hand. The famous local specialty Nanbayaki is made by minced white croaker and shaping it into squares before roasting. The popular Gobomaki is made by mixing ground fish with lightly simmered burdock root, wrapping it in fish skin, and roasting it. Freshly made Kamaboko can be purchased in the shop, although the exact varieties may vary from day to day.

Located in the center of Tanabe, a city along the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Route, about a 15-minute drive from the Nanki Tanabe Interchange on the Hanwa Expressway via National Route 42, this is a venerable retailer of traditional Japanese sweets. Its flagship product is Okeshi Mochi, a simple round, flat cake of rice paste covered on both sides with sweet red bean paste. The soft, chewiness of the pounded Mochi cake and the perfectly salted, not-too-sweet flavor of the bean paste make this a popular item, and it is said to have been a favorite of Minakata Kumagusu, the famous 19th-century scholar in natural history and folklore studies. Since these confections do not keep more than a day, one can taste them only here. In the back of the shop is a tea corner, where customers can enjoy a cup of tea with their sweets.

"This shop, located a short distance north of JR Minabe Station, has been making and selling various foods using Japanese plums exclusively from Wakayama since 1855. Particularly recommended is the shop's signature Fujiume, which is also a registered trademark of the shop. The product's name literally means ""Forbidden Plums,"" and is derived from the fact that when it was presented to a lord as a present, he praised it and ordered more to be made yet also forbade the commoners from making it for themselves. Producing this exquisite food is labor-intensive: Japanese plums are pickled in salt and further marinated in sugar, then wrapped in shiso leaves and pickled again for an additional three months. The shop can export its goods internationally for people living overseas. Some of the other products the shop sells include umeboshi pickled plums as well as plum extract and garlic marinated with plum paste and dried bonito flakes."
