At this public facility, you can enjoy soaking in water from Ryujin Onsen, known as one of the three most beautiful hot springs in Japan. Located in Ryujin Village, Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture. The free-flowing hot spring water is changed daily and has a nice cleansing feeling. There’s a lodging facility next door as well.

This day-trip hot spring located on National Route 424 along the Arita River at an altitude of 100 meters, it features a dome-shaped building using plenty of Kishu wood. The outdoor bath looks down on the Myoue Valley of the Arita River, while the indoor bath is attractive for its windows that offer great views of the mountains' greenery. It is also possible to soak in the hot spring under a starry sky that stretches the entire night sky. There are many types of baths such as jet baths and rock baths, so you can enjoy both good scenery and baths. The admission fee is also reasonable, so it can be used as a hot spring to comfortably go with your family.

This restaurant adjoins the Sunshine business hotel, notable for its up-close view of the vast natural beauty of the Arida River and Mt. Myojin. The restaurant is just a five-minute drive from JR Kii-Miyahara Station on the opposite side of the river. The restaurant’s name means “Ayu Tea House,” and as this implies, the establishment takes pride in its ayu cuisine and other dishes made with fish varieties like largehead hairtail (caught in larger quantities here than anywhere else in Japan), and wild longtooth grouper caught in the Kii Channel. Particularly notable is the restaurant’s largehead hairtail rice bowls and oju lacquered boxes, original recipe dishes only a few servings of which are offered each day. Other menu selections, like the wild longtooth grouper hot pot set and kaiseki course cuisine, give diners the chance to fully savor the flavors of the Kii Channel.

  • Yunomine Onsen Tsuboyu
    Accommodations / Hot Spring
    Wakayama Pref. Tanabeshi Honguchouyunomine 110
A public bathhouse located in the almost exact center of the Yunomine hot spring district through which passes the Kumano Highway. This unusual hot spring is also registered as part of the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes World Heritage Site as it is used by pilgrims to ritually purify them. The bathhouse’ bath is quite simple in construction, consisting of a natural stone bathing tub and wood board walls. Only around two to three people can enter at a time; there is no separate men’s or women’s bath. The rules for usage of the bath are as follows: Bathers get a numbered ticket at the entrance to the hot spring district and, when their number comes up, may bathe in the tub for 30 minutes before they must leave and the next group of bathers is allowed to enter. The nice thing about this system is that during their time, a group has the bath all to themselves. As the waters of the tub naturally change color several times throughout the day, the bath is known as a “seven colored bath.” The legend of Oguri Hangan is also connected to the bath.

This hot spring facility is located approximately seven minutes by taxi from the JR Kinokuni Line's Minoshima Station in Arida City, Wakayama Prefecture. The soft, pleasant-feeling springs are effective for skin diseases and can be enjoyed in an outdoor bathing area, complete with a tatami-floored relaxation room, and hot spring saunas that use vaporized spring water. The facility also houses a sauna that warms your body from the inside out using Binchotan white charcoal. In addition to offering rental baths, there is a restaurant with seafood dishes such as longtooth grouper.

The carbonated alkaline spring is rich in radium and renowned as one of Japan's top three beauty enhancing hot springs. Their Ozashiki tatami mat bath is one of only a few in Japan.
