A tempura restaurant located across the bridge leading to Ojima Island in Nanjo City, Okinawa Prefecture. The restaurant's fluffy tempura is rich in flavor and has been made according to the same recipe since the establishment first opened its doors. The tempura is made with seasonally changing fish and ever so slightly sweet squid. Here you can enjoy piping hot sweet potato tempura, purple yams, slightly salty sea lettuce, and sata andagi buns limited to just a few customers a day. The restaurant also sells salt pickled mozuku seaweed.

I saw good reviews of this place, so I decided to stop here for lunch. You fill out a form to make an order. The whole time I was there, there was a line up. Tempura was really yummy, and definitely...

Okinawa Pref. Nahashi Makishi 1-1-39 STEP Building 1F
At the end of New Paradise Street along the way to Kokusai-dori Street, you’ll come across this ball donut specialty shop. As the name implies, ball donuts are donuts in the shape of a ball, and they’re different from sata andagi (Okinawan deep-fried dough buns). Basic ball donuts are covered in sugar made from sugarcane, though varieties topped with lemon and natural sugar, salt and butter, and “Churakoibeni (a kind of sweet potato)” are also available, among others.

We loved this small cafe with its signature ball donuts in many flavors but the signature will be lemon flavor. Worth a try

This confectionery has been around for over 60 years. Round rice cakes, butter cakes, and other traditional Okinawan sweets are on display outside the shop. The sata andagi (Okinawan sweet deep-fried bun) come in a variety of flavors, such as pineapple, caramel, purple yam, pumpkin, and banana, making them popular among both locals and foreigners. Their “brown sugar candy” is soft and preserves the original taste of the ingredients, which has made it a popular item for years and led to it constantly being sold out.

Ippe coppe located in Urasoe, Okinawa Prefecture is a specialty bread shop using natural yeast. It is a lovely shop standing quietly in the foreigners’ residential district. Bread made only from selected ingredients and using only Japanese wheat is baked in limited quantities so it is recommended to get in early. The shop also sells rusks, scones, and in-house roasted coffee which goes well with the bread. During summer, the café Niwatori opens in the garden of the shop. You can enjoy a shaved ice covered with homemade syrup.

Visit early before its sold out! Was actually already on a full stomach, but the aroma got me, so got a bagel and mini baguette to go. Delicious and mouth-watering!

Okinawa Areas

around-area-map

Let go of your image of a busy, ordered Japan and replace it with crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and relaxing folk music: You've arrived in Okinawa. A world away from the high intensity of Tokyo, Okinawans appear to live a laid-back beach life on this paradisiacal tropical island that lies in the middle of the East China Sea almost 1,000 kilometers south of mainland Japan's most southern tip. Home to a spattering of islands, prepare yourself to discover underwater caves, star-shaped sand, and an island culture sometimes unrecognizable from mainland Japan.
