A venerable coffee shop located in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture that was established in 1940. Open from 7 am, the Kyoto Breakfast served until 11 is one of the shop’s specialties and attracts many a repeat customer.

"A cafe and bar located on the first floor of the same building as WORLD KYOTO, a long standing Kyoto nightclub. Decorated in bright, primary colors, here customers can enjoy fresh cocktails and fruit juices. One item on the menu that people are particularly paying attention to is the ""eco-presso,"" espresso served in a cookie-based cup that you can eat. The inside of the cup is coated with icing that keeps the espresso from leaking out and also goes great with the bitter flavor of the beverage. A bar where you can take fun pictures, drink, and eat, the establishment is popular with men and women of all ages."

A venerable café founded in 1948 located a one-minute walk from Kawaramachi Station. Famous for its connection to the painter Seiji Togo, the café sign and interior is decorated with his paintings. The café’s renowned jelly punch, five different colors of jelly floating in Japanese cider soda, is refreshing to the eye as well as the body. Many customers come for this beverage alone and it can sell out in hours after the café opens.

Salon de thé François is a stylish Western-style construction accessible on foot walking south along the Takasegawa River from Kawaramachi Station. This classical coffee shop was inherited by the owner after 50 years of business and the name was changed to the present. The menu includes carefully selected coffee, as well as nostalgic Neapolitan tomato sauce spaghetti served on an iron plate and Bolognese meat sauce spaghetti. The most eye-catching item on the menu is the “Corona omelet sandwich” inherited from the ex-owner of the shop used to be named Café Corona. This is a fluffy thick omelet sandwiched between thin pieces of bread. It is a popular dish featured in magazines and on TV programs.

Nice place with great lunch sets! Very tasty! The curry with rice was nice and spicey and their sandwiches are amazing!

The ENGAWA cafe specializes in fu (wheat gluten). They have parfaits with nama-fu (fresh gluten) that you can only try there, as well as creative cuisine made with nama-fu and roast yaki-fu that you'd only get at a fu shop. Often used for welcome and farewell parties and girls' nights out, guests love their cute and tasty menu items. Their seasonal sweets are also popular.

We dropped in during Gion Festival and got seated at the bar. Atmosphere is cosy, the food is excellent, prices are very reasonable, and the staff is friendly. Highly recommended.

Kyoto Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
