Outside, the shop looks like a Kyoto merchant’s house; inside, the Western-style, retro atmosphere resembles the lounge of a high-class hotel and looks like a scene out of a movie. The fragrant, nel drip brewed coffee is a point of pride for the café. On request, the shop’s popular Arabian Pearl blend can be served with the perfect amount of sugar and milk. Open from 7 am, the Kyoto Breakfast served until 11 is one of the shop’s specialties and attracts many a repeat customer.

The shop also provides a takeout service, making it the perfect place to stop by while strolling along Teramachi-dori Street of the Kamo River on a sunny day. This venerable café located in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture was founded in 1932. The flavor of the coffee, which has been roasted in-house since the shop was first opened, goes perfectly with the café’s fluffy pancakes and French toast. The shop’s retro and relaxing atmosphere backed by the warmth of brick and wood is also part of its charm. A Western-style restaurant is located on the second floor; the Smart Lunch, which gives you a choice of two main dishes, is its feature menu item. Smart Coffee is popular not only with regulars but tourists as well.

Pancakes were definitely my favourite, the sandwiches were good too but if you have a sweet tooth definitely go for the pancake! You can also get it in a set with a drink.

This classical coffee shop was inherited by the owner after 50 years of business and the name was changed to the present. The menu includes carefully selected coffee, as well as nostalgic Neapolitan tomato sauce spaghetti served on an iron plate and Bolognese meat sauce spaghetti. The most eye-catching item on the menu is the “Corona omelet sandwich” inherited from the ex-owner of the shop used to be named Café Corona. This is a fluffy thick omelet sandwiched between thin pieces of bread. It is a popular dish featured in magazines and on TV programs.

A five-minute walk from Karasuma Station and Shijo Station. This long-standing cafe is located a short distance down Takoyakushi-dori Street off of Karasuma-dori Street. The cafe's distinctive, retro building was originally a kimono fabric store. One of the cafe's draws is that smoking is allowed in all of the seats except for the non-smoking area. Particularly recommended is a cup of coffee made with a direct heat roaster, together with one of the cafe's homemade sweets. The cafe's seasonal pies, cakes, and mousses make for popular souvenirs. Also popular are the cafe's light meals such as its signature spaghetti Napolitan and old fashioned cheese toast.

This cafe in a classroom of the former Meirin elementary school, closed in 1993, is about five minutes' walk from subway Shijo Station. The more than 80-year-old building is valued as a cultural property, with an exterior patterned after a yamaboko parade float, and a Spanish-style interior. The space combines Kyoto-style atmosphere and modernity, and the menu offers old-fashioned Spaghetti Napolitano, and filling clubhouse sandwiches. There is a sunny terrace for nostalgia-filled mealtimes.

かき氷でこちらのお店を知りました。今の季節は厚焼きパンケーキ、ランチメニュー（グラタン、ハンバーグなど）があります。ランチをしたかったのですが、訪れたのが遅くてランチタイム終了で残念でした。それでパンケーキにしました。食券システムなのが意外でした。待ち時間は思ったより少なかったです。パンケーキはやわらかすぎず、食べ応えがありおいしかったです。夏にかき氷も食べてみたいです。

The sister shop to the Umezono sweet shop founded in 1927 located in the Fudo-cho neighborhood of Nakagyo Ward. The shop offers Umezono sweets like dango dumplings made according to the same recipe used when the shop was first founded while also serving as a gallery space. The shop also offers items only served here like matcha green tea hot cakes and brown cane sugar French toast. Items such as the mitarashi dango glazed dumplings and warabi mochi bracken starch dumplings are available for takeout.

We absolutely loved this place. My wife has ordered a french toast and she said it was the best french toast ever. Ive ordered matcha pancakes and it was delicious.
