Kyoto Prefecture Kyoto City Nakagyo-ku Sakaicho-dori Sanjo Down Le Dogusa cho 140
A venerable coffee shop located in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture that was established in 1940. Outside, the shop looks like a Kyoto merchant’s house; inside, the Western-style, retro atmosphere resembles the lounge of a high-class hotel and looks like a scene out of a movie. The fragrant, nel drip brewed coffee is a point of pride for the café. On request, the shop’s popular Arabian Pearl blend can be served with the perfect amount of sugar and milk. Open from 7 am, the Kyoto Breakfast served until 11 is one of the shop’s specialties and attracts many a repeat customer.

We had an opportunity to have breakfast at Inoda Coffee Honten recently. The store/restaurant is located on Sakaimachi-dori just south of Sanjo-dori. It is about 10 min. walk from the Karasuma Oike...

Enjoy superb tempura in this elegant and serene restaurant in downtown Kyoto. The tasteful building is a former wealthy merchant’s house built in the sukiya style. Diners can enjoy a relaxing time in the restaurant’s tatami seating, which faces a beautiful Japanese garden said to have been created by the nobleman Kobori Masakazu. The restaurant’s traditional Kyoto style kaiseki course cuisine focuses on tempura and is designed to make the most of the flavors of carefully selected, highly seasonal ingredients. Tempura Yoshikawa is the perfect place for a banquet or business meal. The tempura counter seating, where you can watch the tempura being prepared right in front of you, is also popular. Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station is the closest station to the restaurant.

My family of four stayed here in April this year and had an amazing experience. Everyone was so friendly and the food was outstanding. We all still talk about the amazing breakfasts each...

    Kyoto Kyoutoshi Nakagyou-ku Kiyamachisanjou Crow
This venerable wagashi (Japanese sweet) shop was founded in 1804. First operating in a time when only fresh (not preserved) sweets could be made, the shop created baked sweets filled with sweet red bean paste and has continued to craft Kyoto treats in line with the times beloved by the masses. In addition to its titular geppei rice cakes, the shop offers a wide selection of fresh sweets. Particularly popular are its warabi-mochi cakes made with real warabi (bracken) starch; the sweet red bean paste, perfect with a cup of green tea, and the melt-in-your-mouth texture is exquisite. Sanjo Station is the closest station to the shop.

Kyoto Prefecture Kyoto City Nakagyo-ku Hexagon Tong New Shin Kyogendo Entrance Matsukeba-machi 456
A venerable eel restaurant founded at the end of the Taisho period located in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. The warm and retro looking exterior looks the same as when the restaurant was established and stands out all the more amongst the throngs of buildings in Shinkyogoku. The key to the shop’s flavor is a secret sauce passed down for one hundred years which brings out the savory deliciousness of plump eels from Lake Hamana. Particularly popular are the standard eel rice bowl and the restaurant’s famous “kinshi-don”—eel rice bowl topped with an egg fried Kyoto style. One of the restaurant’s customs is the “Kaneyo Yose” held each month, an event which includes live entertainment with a meal.

Average quality of unagi and very overpriced. It was around $25 for a small bowl of unagi on rice (only three small pieces of unagi). Would not recommend.

"A cafe and bar located on the first floor of the same building as WORLD KYOTO, a long standing Kyoto nightclub. Decorated in bright, primary colors, here customers can enjoy fresh cocktails and fruit juices. One item on the menu that people are particularly paying attention to is the ""eco-presso,"" espresso served in a cookie-based cup that you can eat. The inside of the cup is coated with icing that keeps the espresso from leaking out and also goes great with the bitter flavor of the beverage. A bar where you can take fun pictures, drink, and eat, the establishment is popular with men and women of all ages."

Kyoto Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
