    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Nishi-ku Hassamu 3-jo 5-3-11 Crystal Corpo 102
The ramen shop is about a five-minute walk from Hassamu-Minami Station. It's filled with old-fashioned atmosphere and offers ramen made with exacting care. The menu is written on cards hanging from the counter, and features only ramen. This shop's ramen stands out for piping hot lard floating on its black broth. The broth is based on seafood, and is much lighter and smooth than it looks. The thick yellow noodles are chewy and match well with the crisp bean sprouts, for a taste sensation you'll slurp down in moments. The Special Ramen, topped with loads of thick char siu pork, is their most popular dish.

    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku Minami 2-jo nishi 1-6-1
This is the Minami Ni-jo location of Ramen Yamaokaya, a chain spreading from Hokkaido in the north to Kyushu in the south. This cozy little shop near Tanukikoji 1-chome offers Yamaokaya's original ramen, with all its special hidden points. Yamaokaya is known for its tonkotsu pork bone broth based Iekei ramen. The rich broth is matched to fragrant, chewy thick noodles making for an addictive bowl. This shop is popular for being a 24-hour restaurant in the heart of Sapporo.

    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku Minami 2 Nishi 1 (Tanukikoji 1-chome)
This ramen shop is just at the entrance to Tanukikoji 1-Chome, about a five-minute walk from Sapporo TV Tower. They are focused on using only Hokkaido products in their ramen, including the noodles, char siu pork, miso and soy sauce. Their popular dish is Seared Char Siu Miso. The fat melts away and leaves meat so tender it falls apart in your chopsticks. The broth is much lighter than it looks, and is perfect for a light meal. It's tipped with colorful Yuzu peel, and the gentle aroma is enchanting.

The ramen comes with grilled pork strip. Not only is the ramen good, the pork strip is fantastic. Smells so good, taste much better. The price is also reasonable. My wife and I loved it. I would...

    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku Minami 3-jo nishi 7-1 Tanukikoji 7
"This shop took off as a ""one coin"" ramen shop in Sapporo. They offer two reasonably priced styles, salt-broth and soy sauce broth, as they have always done. The thick pork bone based broth is lighter than it looks, and guests often drink it dry. They top their bowls with boiled egg, char siu pork, and iwanori seaweed, and sell it all for 500 yen. Their big standard is the akadama topping, which are spicy chicken meatballs. They recommend eating the first one as-is, then crumbling the second one and mixing it in to see how the taste changes."

Smaller place, which means theres sometimes a queue, but its usually pretty good! Recommendation is Miso-ramen which is nice and rich almost creamy in its nuttiness.

    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku Minami 3 Nishi 1
This ramen shop is about a five-minute walk from Susukino Station, and is marked by its deep noren curtain. They offer two variations on chicken-stock soup base. Their most popular ramen is the Kogashi Shoyu, a clean, light soy-sauce based broth made with special lard-braised garlic soy sauce. The rich aroma is a real appetite stirrer. They use Kyoto's Saikyo Miso and Aichi's Haccho Miso for their mellow, flavorful Tokusen Miso ramen, a must-try bowl.

  • Ramen Sapporo Bacchi-ken
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku
This shop offers ramen that's rich but doesn't weigh heavy. They offer tonkotsu pork bone based super-savory soy sauce ramen on the third floor of a building near Susukino Station. The usual way to enjoy it is with the hajikami topping, with grilled fish and more. The hajikami ginger, which is up to three centimeters thick, is the perfect accent to their thick ramen broth. It's also a great partner to their flavorfully steeped young bamboo sprouts. The medium-thick, straight noodles pick up the broth's iwanori seaweed and onions for a variable flavor that will have you finishing your bowl in no time!
  • Tenho

    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku Minami 5-jo nishi 3
This ramen shop makes their broth in a special custom pot the size of an oil drum. It's made fresh every morning, without recycling the old, so this broth stands out for its total lack of old pork smell. Their most popular dish, with a diehard core of regular customers, is the Shoyu Ramen. Their specially made soy sauce base is mixed with char siu pork drippings for a full load of meaty goodness. It's finished with the lightest oil from the lard and pork bone broth for a smooth mouthfeel. The rich pork bone broth is perfectly matched with medium-thick crinkly noodles, for a bowl that even non-tonkotsu eaters will love.
  • Ganso Ramen Yokocho, Shimijimi
    Gourmet / Alcohol
Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku Minami 5-jo nishi 3-6 Original Ramen Yokocho
This ramen uses broth made from Abashiri-caught shijimi clam stock. It has a shop in Sapporo's iconic sightseeing spot, Ganso Sapporo Ramen Yokocho. Their dish of pride, Kossari Shijimi Ramen, is marked by its use of white chicken broth along with the shijimi stock. Naturally, it pairs with iwanori seaweed, and the match with medium-thickness crinkly noodles adds a whole new level of taste enjoyment. The Shijimi Shio Ramen adds a salt broth to bring out the natural richness of the clam stock, and is the perfect meal after drinking.
  • Arataki Tonkotsu Araton Main Shop
    Gourmet / Alcohol
Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku Kita 10-jo nishi 21-15-1 Sapporo Market Shokudo Osa Yanai
This ramen shop is near the southern parking lot of Sapporo's Central Wholesale Market. Like the name says, they offer broth made with pork and fish bones. The dipping broth opens up with the aroma of fish stock, which melds perfectly with the rich base of pork broth. The shop's master built his skills in a popular Tokyo ramen shop before bringing his experience here. The fish used changes with the season, so one of the real charms of this shop is seeing how the flavor subtly changes through the year. The shop closes when they run out of broth, so we recommend coming early to make sure you get a bowl!
  • Ramen Sapporo Ichiryuan

    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku Kita 4-jo nishi 1
"This ramen shop is a certified ""Kita no Megumi Aishoku Restaurant,"" a government certification that identifies restaurants that focus on crafting cuisine from Hokkaido-produced ingredients. The shop is located in the basement floor of a building attached to Exit 23 of the subway Sapporo Station. They offer up house-made noodles in their carefully crafted ramen. The shop's most popular dish is the Genki no Deru Miso Ramen (energizing miso ramen). It's topped with scrambled eggs mixed with Hokkaido grown ground pork sauteed with gyoja ninniku, or Siberian onion, gathered from the mountains of Hokkaido. The garlic and nira chives are prepared so that you won't have garlic breath afterward! The rich flavor and nutritious ingredients make this bowl a real pick-me-up dish, just like the name says!"
  • Hokkaido Ramen Okuhararyu Kura Main Shop
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Chuo-ku Kita 2-jo nishi 1 Peer 21-1F
This is the main shop of a popular ramen chain that has locations as far as Tokyo and Fukuoka. They offer miso ramen made with care in a building across from the Hokkaido Television Broadcasting studio. Their popular Awase Miso Ramen mixes hearty white miso with clean red miso in a delicate harmony. The rich soup matches perfectly with medium-thick noodles and massive char siu pork slices, which cover fully 1/3 of the bowl's surface. Under that char siu the noodles are topped with sauteed carrots, chives, and beansprouts. People come from all over for a taste of just how great mixed miso can be.
  • Buta King (Sapporo Kanjo Shop)
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Higashi-ku Fushiko 1-5-6-13
This Jiro-inspired ramen shop is on Kanjo-dori Street. Look for the large flag inscribed with the shop's rather eye-catching name. The shop's pride is their take on Sapporo's orthodox miso broth. The chewy noodles are made with high water levels in the dough, and the end result is a surprisingly light bowl of ramen. Just like the main style, you can customize your topping with extra vegetables, garlic, and pork back fat. Their big-serving size Obuta Ramen is topped with thick sliced char siu pork in a towering peaked stack for a dynamic visual treat. It can take time to actually get down to the noodles, so make sure to leave space in your schedule, and your stomach, before accepting this challenge!
  • Ramen Sandaime Tsukimiken (Sapporo Station North Entrance Shop)
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Hokkaido Sapporo-shi Kita-ku Kita 6 Nishi 7-5-3
"This ramen shop is along the tracks about a five-minute walk from Sapporo Station. This shop preserves the iconic flavor of authentic Sapporo ramen like it was when it was founded in 1958. The shop's pride and joy is the Miso Ramen, with a recipe that took three generations to perfect. They blend red and white miso in a unique mixture, and mix in thirty different seasonings, including fruit like apple and orange. This work of years has resulted in a level of richness and flavor that is simply irresistible. This is why so many hotel concierges guide customers here, saying ""if you want to try real Sapporo ramen, then head to Tsukimiken."""

    Hokkaido Kamikawa-gun Takasucho Minami 1-jo 2-9-8
A ramen restaurant located a 30-minute drive from Asahikawa Station. Since it was established in 2010, the restaurant has been serving vaunted bowls of ramen crafted by slowly cultivating the innate flavors of pork bones, seafood, and vegetables. Particularly popular is the scorched lard soy sauce ramen. The ramen broth, diligently prepared for more than 14 hours, goes perfectly with the flavorful lard. Slices of Welsh onions add a refreshing flavor to the complexity of the soy sauce-based broth. The restaurant's original ramen is similar in style to Asahikawa ramen, and there are locations in Asahikawa Airport, Shinjuku, and overseas, with many deep-seated fans saying they like to eat it every day.

  • Ramen Taka no Tsume Altimall Restaurant
    Gourmet / Alcohol
Hokkaido Kamikawa-gun Higashikaguracho Hijirino Minami 1-jo 6 ALTIMALL Higashikagura
A ramen restaurant located in Altimall Higashikagura, a large shopping mall close to Asahikawa Airport. This restaurant chain also has locations in places such as Takasu, Asahikawa, Sapporo, and Tokyo. The first thing you'll want to try is the scorched lard soy sauce ramen, which is finished off with piping hot lard and which is the most popular item on the menu. The broth, made with soy sauce from the long-standing Asahikawa company Kikko Nihon, remains hot and tasty down to the last spoonful thanks to the flavorful lard. The scorched lard shio (salt) ramen, which has a milder flavor thanks to a shio broth with just the right amount of salt, is particularly popular among women.
  • Ramen Show
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Hokkaido Chitose-shi Kashiwadai Minami 1-2-1
This area has several ramen shops lined up in the shopping mall, Chitose Outlet Mall Rera, which is near New Chitose Airport. This area inside the mall's food court is where up-and-coming ramen shops battle it out. There is a free shuttle bus that connects New Chitose Airport and Rera, so one of the appealing things about the Ramen Show is that it is easily accessible when people have some free time. There are several stores here, which have revolutionized the ramen world in the past, and can be counted along the ramen restaurants that fight fiercely for their reputations in Sapporo.

It is a popular restaurant where professional baseball players visit, and also caters for overseas visitors. The recommended salt ramen also comes in instant noodle form. "This ramen restaurant is located a little west of Goryokaku Koen-mae tram stop on the Goryokaku Park road. The restaurant is open with a break from 11 a.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning. The lunch set served during the day includes ramen noodles of your choice, a half sized fried rice and menma (bamboo shoots fermented and preserved in salt) on rice bowl. The burnt soy sauce ramen and delicious bowl of five won ton dumplings are popular dishes. Many toppings such as chashu roasted pork or won ton dumplings are offered. ""Kattobu Ramen"" is spicy, but you can have the dish served to your taste with extra spicy ""Buttobi"" or even spicier ""Super MAX""."

Hokkaido Areas

around-area-map

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
