A ramen restaurant located on floor B1 of the CiC building, which is located just past the south exit of JR Toyama Station. Famous for its Toyama black ramen, a local favorite characterized by its dark black broth, the restaurant is a frequent destination for tourists. This flavorful broth, made by combining a chicken and seafood stock with a slow-stewed fish sauce, is the restaurant’s pride and joy. Despite appearances, the flavor is actually quite light. The stylish interior, accented with red here and there, makes it easy even for women to enter on their own.

"This ramen shop which opened in 1947 is the originator of Toyama black ramen, Toyama's first ""B-class gourmet."" The shop, located a one-minute walk from Toyama City Tram Line Grand Plaza Station, is frequented by celebrities. Its main item, chuka soba (ramen noodles), is notable for its dark black soup, roast pork, and coarse-ground pepper. The richly-flavored broth packs a punch that borders on briny. Diners who cannot handle the saltiness can eat the ramen with a side of white rice to adjust the flavor. Beloved by laborers in Toyama since right after the end of World War II, Toyama black ramen has been thought of as a soul food for generations of Toyama citizens."

This restaurant is located in the lower floor of the Toyama station building. There is but only one choice - the Toyama black sauce noodle. It comes in small/medium/large serving sizes. However...

"This Chinese restaurant and noodle shop belongs to the so-called ""Ramen Jiro"" style, which entails a focus on capturing the hearts (and stomachs) of customers with ambitious items. The textbook example of such items is their ""Jiro Black"" ramen, which takes the rich broth of Toyama black ramen, sprinkles it with pepper, and tops it with a mountain of bean sprouts, garlic, and roast pork. Another notable item is their Gorogoro Chahan, a bowl of fried rice topped with massive pieces of roast pork. That said their menu is about more than just novelty items. Their selection of orthodox Chinese dishes also highly popular. This includes more than ten types of hand-wrapped pot stickers packed with fresh vegetables, the most notable of these being their Meisui Pork Gyoza, the most popular variety."

"This ramen shop is next to the Motomachi-Tobu crossing, a 20-minute walk from the south gate of Hokuriku Main Line Kosugi Station. It is notable for its ""Toyama Black"" broth, which is rich with the flavor of broad velvet shrimp, the jewels of Toyama Bay. This famous ramen shop has placed first many times at the Tokyo Ramen Show. Their black broth, which is boiled for hours with plenty of fish meal, has an easy-going richness and is well known for being highly addictive"

Toyama Main Areas

around-area-map

Toyama is one of the three prefectures that house the Japanese Alps, with its southern and eastern borders comprising one long stretch of mountains, out of which the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is forged. While traditional crafts fill the northern coastal cities of Toyama and Takaoka, thatched roof houses offer unrivalled views against a backdrop of fantastic scenery at Gokayama in the mountainous area in the south of the prefecture.
