    Kagoshima Pref. Kagoshimashi Yamanokuchichou 9-41
A popular ramen restaurant that is also one of Kagoshima's best located in the Temmonkan-dori shopping arcade. As its name implies in Japanese, the restaurant's specialty Tontoro Ramen is topped with pork that practically melts in your mouth. The broth, made with pork bones, chicken bones, and seafood, is surprisingly light, making it popular with the shop's women customers as well. The rice with roasted pork is also popular and includes a heaping helping of chashu roast pork made with neck meat, a rare delicacy of which only a small amount can be obtained from one animal. A three-minute walk from Takamibaba Station on the municipal tram.

Really love the ramen. It came with char siew that melts in your mouth. The soup was so good that we drank all of it. A small shop that could only sit 16 people purely meant for quick eat and no...

    Kagoshima Pref. Kagoshimashi Higashisengokuchou 11-19
A long-standing ramen restaurant which has been in business since 1950. The establishment continues to make use of an open kitchen layout which, at the time it first opened, was quite unusual. The restaurant’s mainstay ramen consists of a rich yet simple broth, a hearty portion of cabbage, and homemade chashu roasted pork made with Berkshire pork raised in Kagoshima. The Berkshire pork chashu rice side dish, likewise made with this tasty chashu, is also popular. The restaurant also offers takeout and mail order ramen using semi-fresh noodles.

They made portions for 10 ramen at one time and added or took away to make right portion for each person which gave me auto conveyer impression. It contains lot of cabbage and the soup had taste...

    Kagoshima Pref. Ibusukishi Omure 1-1-13
A ramen restaurant which is dedicated to using Ibusuki ingredients. The establishment is notable for its stylish green and black café-like décor. This popular restaurant was also selected number one by popular vote in the Third Kagoshima Ramen King Tournament. The restaurant’s signature “Katsubushi Ramen” is topped with a mountain of high grade honkare katsuobushi (dried-bonito shavings) along with a custard-like “hot spring” soft boiled egg, natto, and cloud ear mushrooms. The “Kaimondake Ramen” is made with an abundance of Berkshire pork meat miso.

    Kagoshima Pref. Kagoshimashi Chuouchou 2-8
A creative and novel ramen restaurant. Here customers can enjoy ramen with unconventional touches unlike anything found in any other establishment. One of the most popular items on the menu is the “Mazegumo”—thick, soup-less maze soba noodles and vegetables covered in a flavorful oil. The restaurant has been featured in media publications and its noodles were also sold as a special, limited time instant noodle cup in the FamilyMart convenience store chain. The establishment also serves four varieties of hot ramen for customers to choose from: WHITE cloud (Light taste soup), Yellow cloud (Miso soup), PURPLE cloud (Soy sauce soup), and DEEP RED cloud (Spicy soy sauce soup).

    Kagoshima Pref. Ibusukishi Kaimonsenta 4392
A ramen restaurant located at the foot of Kaimondake Volcano a 10-minute walk from JR Higashi-Kaimon Station. Outfitted with a retro tile counter seating area as well as a spacious tatami mat seating area, families with small children will also feel comfortable coming here. In addition to “Katsubushi Ramen,” a local Ibusuki specialty, the restaurant is renowned for its delicious tonkotsu pork bone broth ramen, miso ramen, and simple yet flavorful shio (salt) ramen. The establishment’s chew, medium thick noodles are flavored with just the right amount of salt to bring out the flavor of the wheat flour. Boiled just to the point where they perfectly pick up the broth, these noodles are the proof of a truly superb ramen restaurant.

Kagoshima Main Areas

Over 100 active volcanoes across Kagoshima make it one of the Japan's most exciting prefectures. The prefectural capital, Kagoshima city, looks out to one of the prefecture’s most spectacular volcanoes, Sakurajima, an island of its own that can be visited and seen close up or admired from afar, with the promise of breathtaking sunsets complete with frequent puffs of smoke and ash. Down the Satsuma Peninsula, the most southerly part of mainland Japan, waterfalls, sand onsen, and fascinating history await, while Kagoshima's abundance of satsuma imo (sweet potato) provide a wholesome snack as well as one of Japan's favourite drinksーshochu.
