The restaurant offers hitsumabushi and mini hitsumabushi courses as well as una-don eel over rice bowls, unaju eel boxes, and sashimi and tempura gozen meals.

    The line was quite long and it took more than an hour of waiting to get in. The food and service was excellent although we have had better unagi in other places. The tea that is suggested to be eaten...

    Founded in 1873, this longstanding restaurant lets visitors enjoy eel dishes in a casual atmosphere and offers takeout as well. It’s on the first basement floor of the main Matsuzakaya building in Naka Ward, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, inside the “Gochiso Paradise” area. Its flagship item is the excellent “hitsumabushi,” which uses a secret sauce passed down through the generations and healthy, Kishu Bincho charcoal-grilled eel prepared by expert chefs. There’re also eel rice bowls, “umaki” (omelet-wrapped eel), “mabushi nori maki unagi” (flavored eel rice rolled with seasoned laver), “sansho-ni” (boiled eel with Japanese pepper) set that makes a great gift, and more.

    人気の鰻屋さんということで11:00頃にお店に到着して12:00前後に入店することを目論みました。しかしながらお店の入口には「お昼の営業分は売り切れました」とのこと。お店の人に聞くとどうやら10:30に入口で予約を取り始め既に売り切れたので、夕方分しか無いとのことです。 10:30に並び始める必要があるようです。。。

    This eel specialty restaurant, famous for their version of the Nagoya specialty hitsumabushi (eel rice bowl), is located in the Esca Underground Shopping Center beneath Nagoya Station. Their hitsumabushi uses carefully selected eels which are covered with their secret sauce that uses a rich tamari-soy sauce base and cooked over ubame oak charcoal to create a luxuriant sweet-smelling dish. The taste of the crisp grilled skin is unbelievable. Their kimoyaki (grilled eel liver) and shirayaki (unseasoned grilled eel) are also popular menu items. Being located right next to the bullet train ticket gates this is the perfect place to round off a business trip or vacation.

    Established in 1929, this is a well-established eel restaurant in Kamakura whose closest station is Enoshimsa Dentetsu’s Wadazuka Station. Thanks to the secret sauce that has not changed over several decades, the plump eel is characteristic for its elegant taste with a subtle sweetness. All of their eel dishes are prepared only after the order is received, so cooking takes about one hour to prepare. It is recommended to visit after making a reservation. Children that are not yet of school age are not allowed.

Established in 1916, the shop is located a three-minute walk from the west exit of Tsuchiura Station on the JR Joban Line. The shop's kabayaki, made only with eel from trusted sources, is deep steamed and grilled by an experienced chef, resulting in meat that is plump, tender, and clean-tasting. In addition to kabayaki, the shop also offers Unaju (grilled eel and rice boxes) and bento box lunches, as well as anago (garden eel) bento box and chirashi sushi crafted with the skills of a long-standing eel cuisine purveyor. Other selections include Yawatamaki rolls made with burdock from Ibaraki and kimoyaki grilled liver, plus foods sold in sealed vacuum packs like tsukudani perfect for giving as a gift. The shop also has a space where customers can eat top quality, fresh-grilled Unaju during lunchtime.
