    Tokyo Taitou-ku Komagata 2-1-29
A venerable eel restaurant founded in the Edo period boasting some 200 years of history. The shop’s Kabayaki (broiled eel with sauce), soaked in a secret sauce passed down for generations, is tender down to the bones. Meanwhile, the shop’s shirayaki (unseasoned broiled eel) allows the true flavor of the meat to shine through. Overlooking the Sumida River and Tokyo Skytree, during the day diners can enjoy the downtown hustle and bustle and in the evening a lovely nightscape.

We had a sudden craving for Unaju and we stopped off at Asakusa on our way home. We tried a couple of restaurants which is famous for Unagi, but 1pm on Saturday, there was a long line of people...

    Tokyo Taitou-ku Ueno 2-12-22
Said to have been established around the reign of Tokugawa Yoshimune, the eighth Tokugawa shogun, this restaurant serves traditional Japanese cuisine and eel dishes. Using traditional skills refined over a period of more than 200 years, the restaurant's chefs broil up plump, flavorful kabayaki grilled eel.

This is one of the oldest unagi restaurant in Tokyo. There are few branches of the restaurant but this is near Ueno JR station. I ordered Unaju 130 g medium a size . It was delicious although...

    Tokyo Meguro-ku Shimomeguro 3-13-10
An eel restaurant located in 2 Chome Shimomeguro, Meguro City, Tokyo. Yatsumeya Nishimura was established during the Taisho period (1912-1926) close to the Sugamo Togenuki Jizo statue and moved to its current location in front of the Ryusen-ji Temple (Meguro Fudoson) in 1960. The restaurant serves the highest quality domestic eel grilled over high-grade ubame oak charcoal and smothered in a secret sauce which has been continuously topped off and added to since Yatsumeya Nishimura first opened. In addition to being able to eat inside the restaurant, Yatsumeya Nishimura also sells eel skewers and bento box lunches for eating on the go out front.

It’s located in a living area, quite a distance away from business and tourist areas. So foreign customers are rarely seen in here. But their Unadon was the best I’ve had in these 3 years!

    Tokyo Ome-shi Honcho 153
This Japanese restaurant is located a five-minute walk from Ome Station. Housed in an atmospheric building constructed at the end of the 19th century, here you can enjoy vaunted eel cuisine. The restaurant's thick-cut eel filets are so tender, they can be pulled apart with a flick of your chopsticks, and the fatty meat goes perfectly with a traditional tare sauce. The restaurant also serves tempura made with seasonal vegetables from the local west Tama area, as well as a sashimi set meal which comes with huge pieces of fish. It is said that novelists Eiji Yoshikawa and Shotaro Ikenami also frequently stopped by here, and the restaurant's old-fashioned building, seemingly existing outside of time, has been designated a Historic Structure by the Tokyo metropolitan government, and an Important Scenic Resource by the city government.

Tokyo Chuo-ku Ginza 4-2-15 Tsukamoto Soyama Building B1
A restaurant specializing in eel in the Tsukamoto Sozan Building directly accessible from Ginza Station. The long-standing store was founded during the Kansei era when Tokugawa Ienari was in power. They serve a combination of domestically harvested wild and farmed eel in a shop with a distinctive appearance. The eel is laboriously and painstakingly prepared by skilled chefs to enhance the wonderful flavor. Wild eel typically is on the menu from late April to late November. In addition to classics like unagi on rice and kabayaki (eel dipped in a soy-based sauce and broiled), the popular Mabushi Gozen Japanese style meal set comes with a premium soup.

The truth is i expect more from a michellin star restaurant. We had try unazen the previous night (posted the review also) and it was way better than nodaiwa in my oppinion. But on the better note...

Tokyo Main Areas

around-area-map

The setting of countless iconic movie scenes and the inspiration for songs, poetry, and literature worldwide, Tokyo barely requires an introduction. It’s hard for the kaleidoscopic neon lights, wacky pop culture, and some of the world’s tallest structures not to instill excitement in any first-time visitor to Tokyo, whether you’re in the very center of the hustle and bustle in Shinjuku or Shibuya or looking in from the quieter suburbs.
